Richard Sherman Channels Ronde Barber

January 20th, 2014

Ronde had plenty to say after his iconic moment

Joe’s no fan of cocky Richard Sherman, the Seattle cornerback who sealed a Super Bowl appearance for his team late in the NFC Championship game yesterday. But Joe’s really getting a laugh hearing all the sports radio chatter today ripping Sherman for his antics immediately after the game was sealed.

Joe heard callers and on-air talent saying Bucs icon Ronde Barber would never pound his chest and spew such arrogance.

Really?

The fact is Barber also screamed in self-admiration for the cameras when he locked up the Bucs’ first Super Bowl berth. If you’ve never seen the video below, it might surprise you — and get you fired up for the rest of your Monday.

Regarding Sherman, Joe says give the guy a break for whatever he did during his euphoria yesterday.

    I like Richard Sherman. Dude is a beast. My favorite Richard Sherman line. Talking to Skip Bayless. “I’m better at life than you”. Quite possibly one of the best lines ever. I’ve used it a few times myself.

    An elite corner needs to have swagger. I have no problem whatsoever with Sherman.

  2. bucbucbuc Says:

    Love it Joe, totally forgot about Ronde’s comments! However, I don’t think people had a problem with Sherman’s comments about being the best. What angered people was the blatant calling out of Crabtree, which was completely unnecessary and was something Ronde would have never done. Also, Ronde can chalk up his words to emotion and an adrenaline high; we all know he is pretty soft-spoken and humble otherwise. The same can’t be said about Sherman, who continued to reiterate his comments afterwards.

  3. bucs4lyfe Says:

    Lot of people waiting to see this guy to fail now….he just put a bigger target on his back, he’s a good corner but it takes more than one or two years before you can proclaim yourself the best. i had no problem with the trash talk being that they are division rivals but i think it was kinda dumb to make that proclamation a couple weeks before playing peyton manning. the definition of the being the best was defined by revis island and not even thinking twice about throwing to his side of the field, richard sherman hasnt reached that level yet? he looked pretty average to me even against the bucs and theres no defense for the perfect pass. defensive ends can talk like that but even the best corner gets roasted from time to time and i just hope he’s ready to back it up….dont hate sherman i just hate seattle PERIOD as in the state the team everything, sherman plays for seattle so lol he sucks

  4. My Buc-O's Says:

    Here’s hoping someone plants those buck teeth in the back of his throat next year and be gets burned for the game winning TD in the Super Bowl…..

  5. RastaMon Says:

    Much to do about nothing….his reaction in the context of the event is completely understandable

  6. JT Says:

    The niners and seahawke hate eachother. Of course Shermans going to talk some trash I love it! I hate how espn crucifies the guy for not being “classy” they’re just mad their golden boy kaepernick lost

  7. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    ITS FOOTBALL-MANO-E-MANO. Who cares if your cocky. Grew up watching some of the baddest SOB’s to ever play the game -Freaking -Mean “Joe” Greene, Jack Lambert, Randy White, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Ken Stabler, George Atkinson, Mercury Morris, Lawrence Taylor and countless others run their mouths (including Joe Willie). Its part of the game, Live & Living Color. If you want a “the gentleman’s game”, go watch Cricket.

  8. bucs4lyfe Says:

    I could care less about him getting crucified, our entire team did for 12 games. i just dont see this title of best corner in the game, maybe the best at hiding how much he grabs the other guy to keep from getting burned but thats about it…gotta do it for more than one year dude!!!! he’s to hoping revis is motivated to earn that 16 mil and comeback to claim his #1 spot

  9. PRBucFan Says:

    Exactly what I said yesterday, the man was passionate lol, possibly too passionate, but it happens.

    Get over it lol

  10. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Richard Sherman right now is the BEST CORNER IN THE NFL. ITS ALL ABOUT IMPACT PLAYS . A freaking 5th Round Draft Pick, with 20 Int’s in 3yrs. From Compton California, to STANFORD UNIVERSITY to 2× First-team All-Pro (2012, 2013). Now the Super Bowl. Beat your damn chest son. Let all these kids know, that you can make it, no matter where your from.

    +Young man’s a humanitarian+community activities. Rumble young man Rumble

  11. Stevek Says:

    Sherman backs it up.

    Dude is really good.

    Wish we were going to the super bowl like Sherman will be in two weeks.

    Internet tough guys are out in full force today. You do realize that saying dumb stuff like this makes you infinitely worse than a talkative football player, right?

  13. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @RealityCheck

    Nah, the ones that crack me up, are the ones that multiple user names. And only choose to post after everyone has lift the post.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Here’s one for all you Michael Bennett whiners……we could have selected Richard Sherman in the fifth round of the 2011 Draft….but DOM selected Ahmad Black instead.

  16. BUCSLEGENDS Says:

    LUVMYBUCS, RUMBLE YOUNG MAN RUMBLE…, LOVE THAT !!!!!!!

  17. bucs4lyfe Says:

    OMG

    IT’S STAT GUY AGAIN

    INT’S will never tell the whole story, great he had 8 this year but even lavonte david had 5….ronde barber led in int’s from safety in 2012 but LEONARD JOHNSON was second with 3 but i guess you think he was our best corner that year right?

    dude is ok but check Opposing quarterbacks ratings when throwing out stats because thats what matters and the numbers are up there with the best but he’s never had a season like darrelle revis did in 09….to think that he has done enough to go after revis like he did earlier in the season…..he aint there yet because it’s funny how his name started popping up after revis injury, i think he talks enough and has enough people holding his jock, he doesnt need your help LUVMYBUCS lets see him go toe to toe with revis healthy because no one was saying sherman sherman sherman when revis was healthy

  18. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Richard Sherman scared the reporter half to death. That isn’t right at all. The truth is he was talking smack, getting in the guys face.

    And Ronde did not scream, he yelled. Richard Sherman looked like a street thug about to pull out a .357 in a fight.

  19. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    bucs4lyfe@

    Ooo you talking about THAT NFL LEADING 47.3 QB RATING FOR PASSING INTO HIS COVERAGE. Yeah he’s got that 2. So what’s your point?..lol

  20. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Doesn’t matter how good he is. You control yourself around women. Period.

  21. bucs4lyfe Says:

    @LUVMYBUCS

    I have no point……guess he’s first ballot hall of famer based off one season change your name to LUVMYSHERMAN

  22. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Like I said, I will take future HOF Ronder Barber(In his Prime). Over Jerry curl dripping, tight pants wearing. Non-Tacking Deion sanders or even Darrell Revis any day.

  23. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    I LUV FOOTBALL PERIOD. U CAN CHANGE YOUR NAME WHATEVER YOU LIKE.

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Bonzai

    Did you say you had to control yourself around women with periods?

  25. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @bucs4lyfe

    SEEMS LIKE YOU GOT SOMETHING TO SAY EVERY TIME I POST. IS THERE A PROBLEM? DID I PISS ON YOUR LAWN, AND DIDN’T REALIZE IT?

  26. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @BUCSLEGENDS

    YES SIRRR..LOL

  27. bucs4lyfe Says:

    you would take ronde over deon sanders or darelle revis? lol nah i’m just trying to stop you from winslowing richard sherman so hard….and if you really wanna know why i have somethign to say everytime you post this is why…..

    Like I said, I will take future HOF Ronder Barber(In his Prime). Over Jerry curl dripping, tight pants wearing. Non-Tacking Deion sanders or even Darrell Revis any day.

    you would take 5’11 ronde at two corners that opposing quarterbacks wouldnt dare throw at? i’m at work dude i can do this allday. im entertaining myself

  28. d-money Says:

    Sherman is an ass. That was a fact long before he said what he did last night.

    The comments last night just allowed the whiole world to see it first hand.

    How many times does this guy have to tell people he’s the best corner in the game? Who is he trying to convince, us it himself?

  29. stratobuc Says:

    Directly following “the play”, Sherman makes the choke sign, then goes up to Crrabtree – screams at him, slaps him on the butt and then wants him to shake hands? That’s taunting – and should have been called. there’s no place for that in sports and I blame the refs for letting it go on till it rolls out of control (see 49’ers vs. Panthers). I don’t care how good he thinks he is, Sherman is garbage as a man. I will love to watch the Broncos kick the peahawks ass in two weeks.

  30. bucs4lyfe Says:

    michael crabtree “he made one play go back and watch the tape, he made one play” hahaha i still think it’s funny his feelings are hurt…..it would have been a better game if vernon davis hadnt disappeared like he always does when they play a physical team, it’s gonna be even worse for him next year now that teams know it for sure

  31. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ stratobuc

    They did call taunting on Sherman…gave Seahawks half the distance after the interception….they started their kneel-downs at the 10.

  32. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ stratobuc….check that…I could be wrong about the call…

  33. PRBucFan Says:

    Like Roy Miller said last night if only we knew half the stuff they say on the field lol

  34. PRBucFan Says:

    So fact is we can chirp all we want about what we think but we have no idea the things that were said back and forth between the two of them leading up to that candid moment.

  35. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Lol, hey you can lift your skirt and blow a kiss to whoever or whatever you like. I respect the respectable, and Barber has earned that from me. Revis hasn’t played long enough, or contributed enough impact plays. As for Deion Lol, I watched him get Bullied by some of the Best recievers in the game. Great special teamer yes, but he I’ve seen him get burned a few times like everybody else. Lol, a defensive player that said he decided not tackle, because it wasn’t a good business decision. Nah you can keep him.

  36. BFFL Says:

    The guy is classless.

  37. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Stratobuc….

    Checked it out….he was flagged for taunting.

    Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is flagged for taunting after deflecting 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick’s pass at the end of the NFC Championship Game.

  38. stratobuc Says:

    Yes, I know he was flagged – as he should have been. The refs let it go on and on until it became acceptable and boiled over.

  39. madmacskillz Says:

    Wow – split crowd. Half the people here think it’s fine to act like a classless jackass if you’re a good athlete. Reminds me of high school.

    Actually, I wasn’t upset by what he said – I was upset because I wanted to hear him talk through what happened on the play, which is what the sideline reporter asked him. But she did kinda clown him a little – I thought that was pretty funny.

    If I were coaching Seattle I’d have a chat with Sherman and tell him to keep his mouth shut between now and after the Super Bowl. Reporters are going to hound him and try to get him to generate bulletin board fodder for the Broncos.

  40. Macabee Says:

    I’ve got 3 words for Richard Sherman – “Discount Double Check”. Going into the Super Bowl and performing well could have led to millions in endorsements. There are huge insurance companies that could play on his “coverage” skills.

    Great CB, no marketing savy! Anybody seen Ndamukong Suh in a Chrysler commercial lately? Get my point? Your behavior is worth money! smh.

  41. LUVMYBUCS Says:

  42. Bucs55 Says:

    Why do people have a problem what he said I for 1 don’t he tryed to show respect to Crabtree right after the play was done and Crabtree pushed his face mask come on they are Goin to the super bowl they beat one of the best teams out there you’re kindness got you pushed so let him know he’s garbage that they r playing against the best comments like this make the game more competitive you don’t think Kap and Crabtree are Goin to have this in the back of there mind all year come on we need to stopbeen so fake and sometime just olet it out sometimes

  43. stratobuc Says:

    Does this movie come with subtitles?

  44. Bucs55 Says:

    Like it’s said about football every were from pop Warner to the pros you don’t they guy opposite field of you talking then take care of business and that will shut them up completely because they will have nothing to say

  45. Macabee Says:

    Luv,

    Thanks for making my point. That was before the rant and it’s nickel and dime money compared to the Aaron Rodgers commercials on mainstream TV.

  46. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Macabee

    Sure but he a Cornerback, Not a Quarterback. So he doesn’t demand that kind of market share anyway. Now with that said According to the NPD Group, annual sales of headphones are now $1.8 billion, and with 27 percent of the market, “Beats by Dre” still is the leader. We all gotta start somewhere

  47. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    *Sure but he’s a Cornerback, Not a Quarterback.

  48. Bucs55 Says:

    Love it how some people make them self sound like saints lol

  49. Bucs55 Says:

    Lol angels better world

  50. Joe Dunn Says:

    Ronde handled his big play with a lot more class…and a LOT LESS VOLUME. Part of the reason why I am tired of Michael Irvin and Deion Sanders is that they YELL ALL THE TIME…..

    turn it down, bro, we can hear ya

  51. Macabee Says:

    Yes Luv,

    We all gotta start somewhere, but with rants like that you don’t go any further or worst yet you go back to the beginning of the line!

    A tip from an old investor, If you want a good headphone buy Monster, they sound just as good and if you didn’t know, they make the Beats headphones for Dr Dre. Didn’t think the old dude would know that, did you? lol.

  52. Rrsrq Says:

    LUVMYBUCS,

    Well stated, Sherman is backing u everything he says, did people miss the later interview when he talked about how he studied what he does wrong and works to correct it, STUDY, oh yeah, graduated from Stanford (cum laude) btw. Rumble young man rumble

  53. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Macabee

    Lol, this Ole’ dog got few tricks up his sleeve too now. But I hear yah..lol.

    @Rrsrq
    Yes Sirrr, RUMBLE YOUNG MAN RUMBLE

  54. stratobuc Says:

    “Love it how some people make them self sound like saints lol”

    ….and others like cavemen.

  55. PRBucFan Says:

    lol chirp chirp chirp chirp

  56. Buc1987 Says:

    The Ronde video….ahhhhh those were days. Thanks Joe you made me cry again.

  57. flumunda cheese Says:

    Sherman is a junkie and I cant wait until they find him dead in a ditch someday. Guys had two good seasons and we’re comparing him to deion, darrelle and ronde…delusional.

  58. PRBucFan Says:

    ^^^ You are an absolute tool

    “I cant wait until they find him dead in a ditch someday.”

    Prime example of the sad state of the people in our world right there.

  59. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @PRBucFan

    Smh..Undermine their value as a human being

  60. PRBucFan Says:

    If anyone here says they haven’t said some stupid shiite while competing in a sport in the heat of the moment that’s a blatant lie.

    Or you simply haven’t been in that type of competitive atmosphere.

  61. Buc1987 Says:

    Richard Sherman- Birthplace : Compton Ca. born and raised. He’s straight up gangsta NWA style. He also graduated at the top of his class @ Stanford. So he’s an intelligent gangsta.

    Sherman told Bayless “I’m intelligent enough and capable enough to understand that you are an ignorant, pompous, egotistical cretin. I am going to crush you on here because I am tired of hearing about it.” He also claimed that he was “better at life” than the First Take analyst.

    Explanation :
    You can take him out of the hood, but you can’t take the hood out of him.

  62. stratobuc Says:

    To try to justify his actions with a lame excuse like that is pathetic. Chirp this.

  63. johnny Says:

    Ronde had a int , a td, a sack and a forced fumble in his championship game …Sherman had a deflected pass and he is the second coming of Deion now.

  64. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Buc1987

    If you’ve ever been to Compton, you would know. Just because you live in the Hood Don’t make you Hood. One thing for sure that “NWA” term you just used would never come out your mouth.

  65. Patrick in VA Says:

    Just watched the skip/Sherman “debate” on YouTube and it’s really just a couple of people talking past each other trying to get their lines out there with little regard for whether there was anything resembling a conversation happening. Felt like I was watching fox news

  66. PRBucFan Says:

    This has nothing to do with the hood lol

  67. Buc1987 Says:

    LUV…first of all I would not be caught dead in Compton let alone talking in Compton and second of all NWA is a rap group and yes I know what it stands for. lol

  68. Buc1987 Says:

    Well PRB…I’d be willing to bet if he grew up in an upscale neighborhood in San Diego he would not have such a mouth on him. I also realize it was in the heat of the moment as well. He can say what he wants to, I don’t really care. His team just won the NFC Champ game.

  69. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Buc1987

    For the Most part its a nice place, bunch of Middle class homes. You should visit sometime. hahaha

  70. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Buc1987

    Guess you never heard Chuck Cecil, John Lynch, Eric Allen, Rashaan Salaam, or even Terrel Davis talk shyte. lol

  71. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @PRBucFan

    He knows better. 87′ just bored talking shyte.

  72. PRBucFan Says:

    It is what it is ahaha 😀

    Anywho, I’m excited to see which GM we get.

    The Bucs have officially come down to two after eliminating Vital from the search.

    Ross or Licht

  73. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Joe,

    You’ve left this Sherman article up too long….lets have another Talib, Blount, Bennett piece so we can cry and whine about our losses.
    Just think, we can argue if it was Dominick or Schiano (bot fired) at fault.
    Or….better yet, another Johnny Football promotion.

    The Sherman debate has degenerated….

  74. Eric Says:

    Be ok by me if we had a guy mouth off after he made the play that put us in the Super Bowl.

  75. Cmurda Says:

    Luvmy bucs,

    Thank you for linking to Chuck Cecil’s videos. One of my favorite, if not favorite NFL players ever. He was actually too beastly for the NFL. Heck, the man was so darn good he was actually too good for himself.

  76. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Cmurda

    You welcome. That brotha (Chuck Cecil) was a BEAST in every sense of the word. He appreciated the game for what it is. And I respected him for that.

  77. RCH Says:

    I love that Sherman played for Stanford which means he us a standout dude but truth be told Revis is the best corner in the league. No disrespect but dude only made one play yesterday

  78. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @RCH

    He made the definition of a Clutch play-Game on the Line-When It Counts.

  79. Andrew 1 Says:

    I have no problem with what he said, football fans need to stop being over sensitive. I mean Comon, this is football people!!! If your looking for players to be politically correct, then you will be disappointment. Some players feel the need to be brash and bold to elevate themselves, and that’s their choice. He probably took it a little to far, but damn its nothing to get your panties all up in a bunch.

  80. Andrew 1 Says:

    you know what the best way to shut him up is, to score the touchdown. When you dont, that kind of stuff comes with the territory. Football fans shouldn’t be shocked its happened plenty of times before, Anybody remember Bart Scott’s “CANT WAIT!!!”. Just in case you forgot.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJshw2Axsqc

  81. PRBucFan Says:

    lol That was epic

  82. Buc1987 Says:

    RCH…he only made one play because they never test him.

  83. Buc'dUP Says:

    Why would anyone care what he said! there are people like that every where that don’t have the guts to say what they think. I thought it showed his character and don’t like it, but man I’ve known people like that my whole life. Let just see if he can back it up against one of the greatest QB’s on the biggest stage. “Pride cometh before a fall”.

  84. pick6 Says:

    anybody who has defended sapp’s bravado would be hypocritical in criticizing Sherman. sapp had plenty to say about his standing in the league and the ability of other (lesser) players in his day, and we embraced it (and him) as a fan base because his play backed it all up. then one day his production couldn’t keep up with his career-long boasts and he had to retire when a less outspoken player might have squeezed out 2 or 3 more humble (but lucrative) seasons as a situational player. Sherman has to understand that the trash talk and self-glorification adds baggage to him, and when that baggage outweighs the benefits of his on-field production teams will not be eager to add him even if he is a good leader or an adequate 3rd corner. if he’s okay with that, let the man talk

  85. Bucsfanman Says:

    If you’re offended by what Sherman says, then clearly, you have never competed. In fact, you’re probably the ones who would turn this game into a pansy “gentlemen’s” sport(of which I had no idea still existed!). If you don’t like it, stop watching and spare us the, “Oh, he offended me” garbage.
    The league needs “bad guys”(even though I don’t consider Sherman a bad guy). Where’s the swag?
    By the way, those Bucs fans that think that Ronde or Brooks weren’t chirpy, you need to go back to the tape.

  86. tj Says:

    barber had class, this guys a joke, holds on every play,he and the refs are whats wrong with the nfl

  87. Capt. Tim Says:

    Sherman is classless, brainless, and proves it frequently.

    Ok- you can run fast and jump high.
    So can a jackass, a kangaroo, a water buffalo, and hundreds of other dumb animals.

    Big Deal.
    Great football player. But probably looking forward to a post career prison stint. Like so many others.

    Running fast and jumping high is only a job for a very few, for a very short time. After that, you have to make a living by dealing with Civilized, intelligent people.

    Uh oh, Richard.

  88. Capt. Tim Says:

    Bucsfanman- why does the sport “need” boisterous Dumbases?
    It has tons of those in the stands, no shortage.

  89. Bucsfanman Says:

    Capt. Tim- No doubt that there is no shortage of stupidity in the stands, I’ll give you that! I wonder though if we were talking about say, Joe Namath would we say the same thing? As a Bucs fan, I lived for Sapp running through other team’s warm-ups. Ocho-cinco(god I hated typing that!) had a running list of DBs he wanted to take to school(among other things), I thought the guy was funny. A lot was made of T.O. and his antics, but thats just what they were, antics. Talking smack, to me, is inherent in the game. If you want Sherman to shut up, score on him(which I’m sure Denver will do!).
    All said, I’m guilty of being a “boisterous dumbass” myself and wouldn’t want it any other way. I wouldn’t taunt, per se, but I like talking. I like it better when my opponent talks back too. That just gives me more motivation. I think you’re taking this way too seriously, I mean “prison stint”? Really?! C’mon dude, lighten up!
