Revis Isn’t 100 Percent

September 12th, 2013

The $1 million-a-game man, Darrelle Revis, is still getting himself into shape.

Revis played well Sunday against the Jets, but he’s not all the way back from his surgically repaired knee.

The Darrelle Revis Show hit the airwaves tonight on WDAE-AM 620, and Revis was asked by a fan caller whether he was back to 100 percent. Revis didn’t pretend he was the old Revis.

“In due time, I’ll get stronger with my wind and my legs,” Revis said.

Revis played a large percentage of plays in New Jersey but he’s not yet himself, citing a light summer load. “I didn’t go through training camp,” Revis said.

None of this surprises Joe. Revis is, in fact, human. But what’s troubling is the Bucs’ depth at cornerback.

They don’t have any.

Leonard Johnson and Johnthan Banks are the only other healthy cornerbacks — literally. Rashaan Melvin missed opening day with a bum hamstring, and Michael Adams had knee surgery this week.

Without a roster move, Joe suspects safeties Ahmad Black and Keith Tandy will get some work at cornerback against the Saints, a troubling thought against Drew Brees.

Even before the rash of injuries, the whole CB unit was a question mark. Even Revis was in question as he was coming off his first major injury and had no training camp. We passed on so many serviceable if not proven CBs in FA to rely on undrafted FAs and waiver wire pickups.

I wonder what Drew Brees and Sean Payton are thinking?

How can the Bucs’ cover Colston, Moore, Meachum, Graham, Sproles, etc…….. ?

IF they blitz Brees like they did Smith, I think they get lit the f**k up all day.

I could care less what kind of drama is going on at OBP, but I’m very worried about how they plan to stop Brees & Co.

I think the front four playing out of their minds and getting pressure on the QB is the only way the Bucs win.

    Go Bucs!

I think Drew racked up 8tds and 1int vs. us last year, and around 700 yards or so.

Brees then Brady, damn. Two Hall of Famers for sure.

    A formidable challenge indeed.

  3. MadMax Says:

Crowd the zones, 3 and 4 man rushes, and double up on Graham….mix it up when you can rushing David and Foster…..force them to run!!!!! Thats how we beat them!

With the week we’ve been having, I was about ready to jump off a bridge when I saw that headline, lol.

  5. Neil Says:

Haha, we had Wright with intentions of him being a starter and drafting a CB. Now he’s gone, we drafted a CB but never replaced Wright. A lot is hinging on Revis this season ala DE Bowers. I don’t see why we count on players coming off injuries and have the cap space to sign other guys and don’t do it. Revis goes down and we have the worst group of cornerbacks in the league. Our only hope is for Goldson and Barron to injure every receiver who catches a pass haha. Wait……the Jets still won…..and we’re playing the Saints and Drew Brees…..crap.

Brees is nifty like Peyton Manning, he doesn’t take too many sacks.

Maybe Ronde can come out of the booth and grab a helmet, doesn’t seem like we have much depth.

Blount is returning kicks for NE. Interesting.

  7. CocoaBchBuc Says:

@ Couch……after last weeks showing by Blount, they are trying to see if there is any need for him to fill.

  8. Neil Says:

Brady cut through the Jets defense like Swiss cheese…..similar to Freeman right??

  9. Couch Fan Says:

    What happened last week?

  10. Buc1987 Says:

In a division where we have Brees and Ryan. It does befuddle me as to why the Bucs are so thin @ DB.

  11. Buc1987 Says:

Last weeks Pat’s game Blount 7 carries for 15 yrds 2.1 per carry. Vereen averaged 7.2 yrds a carry and Ridley averaged 5.1 yrds per carry. Yup same old Blount but without the fumbles.

  12. ben Says:

Sure would be nice if we had kyle arrington,oh thats right, rockstar cut him

  13. Rahb Says:

    Smh
Lemme guess, there are NO serviceable CBs available! So who will be doing the cartwheels this time as Saints receivers assault the Bucs “End Zone”?
Eric “Thirsty” Wright isn’t around this time to be nicely TOASTED!

  14. ben Says:

I hope tandy doesnt play cb,he shouldnt have even made the first 53

  15. knucknbuc Says:

I have to say I would be real surprised at this one if we win. Brady and brees the next two weeks with everything going on. I mean revis is sayin he aint even 100%. He’s gonna have to be within that range to win these next two. Our corners are lookin suspect again. And the situation with the offense isn’t even close to being a good thing. Were gonna have to pull josh at some point no way is this even a remotely good thing in the beginning of the season true or not.

  16. MadMax Says:

They shouldve kept Baker….kid has a nose for the ball!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. jvato24 Says:

Why not take a look at Antoine Winfield?? He never officially retired

  18. ben Says:

Im watching this jets patriots game, ill say this about winslow,he plays the game with alot of heart.he was freemans comfort blanket,i can only imagine what our offenae would of been with what we have now if we had him. Good coaches manage personalities not run them off

  19. Eric Says:

Jets are playing some decent football vs. pats.

Maybe that loss wasn’t as bad as we thought.

  20. tonytwocents Says:

smh… at this point, I would take Talib. Given our lack of anyone after Banks.. 2 INTS vs the Jets… forget Schiano’s ego, we shouldve kept him. sm mf head..

  21. ElioT Says:

@Eric – They had the Jets on the ropes and didn’t/couldn’t finish. That’s what makes the loss as bad as we thought it was.

I really hope this team can (including coaching staff) come together, step up and beat the Saints this Sunday. I have to believe that there are too many true pros on this roster to see the team crumble under any circumstances.

Expectations are high and I really want to have confidence in this team.

    Go f**king Bucs!

  22. 76buc76 Says:

Are you guy’s kidding me? Winslow and Talib are cancer’s in the locker room. K2 needed a year off with that knee. Talib is one more big screw up away from squandering his career.

  23. Morgan Says:

These player shows are a bunch of obsequious fluff….grown men callers groveling to “mr revis”. One adult man told him that he wore revis’s jersey to work every Friday. Grovel Grovel…then there’s TJ Rives, who makes the shows worse…….maybe five good minutes out the hour worth listening.
