Josh Freeman The Snake Handler

July 25th, 2012

Josh Freeman is still firing guns at gun ranges, but Joe’s not worried about that. Joe’s more concerned about the potential perils Freeman faces handling his personal exotic snake collection.

Freeman opened up about his various hobbies recently to NFL Network host Rich Eisen, via the Rich Eisen podcast on Freeman shared stories of Calypso, his 8 1/2-foot albino burmese python, among the other snakes around Freeman’s home.

A snake lover since third grade, Freeman said he loves his Boa constrictors and is upset by snake neglect stories.

Calypso, though, is getting too big and dangerous, Freeman said, and he’s planning to find a zoo home for her.

“I’m not going to dump it into the Everglades like everybody else does,” Freeman said. “She’s not a happy woman.”

It’s a classic interview that showcases Freeman’s deadpan sense of humor. Other Freeman hobbies outside of the gun range are his bulldog puppy running amidst the carnivorous reptiles, and he likes to play soccer.

  2. Jglazer Says:

I’m beginning to believe this guy is a nut job with too much money. Time for me to cut his salary. Snakes – guns?

  3. Andrew Says:

jglazer there are worse things you can do with you time and money such as drugs, and crime. not a big fan of snakes, but i say good for him. I just hope he has a good season and stays healthy.

I really enjoyed the interview. I like Josh’s personality a lot. It is obvious to me that is still a “kid”. He is only 24 years old and sometimes I think we as Bucs fans forget that. Agree there are much worse hobbies that he could involve himself. I am pulling for you josh. GO BUCS

  6. OptimisTroll Says:

At least it isn’t dog fighting.

  7. BucFan727 Says:

@Jglazer: What is wrong with with his hobbies? Last I checked and I’m pretty sure any other normal checked, snakes and guns is not absurd. Many people loves guns and there are many reptile lovers out there so how is it a issue of too much money for him? Stop trying to find negatives out of nothing because you are making yourself look rediculous.

  8. the buc realist Says:

Can he read a defense yet? I did not see any where that he was working on progression in this area?

  9. Bucky23 Says:

Also JOE, I’m not exactly sure when this podcast was uploaded on, but I saw it today and thought it was very interesting and wondered if you would write an article about his love for snakes. Sure enough, I checked the website after listening and there it was. I just wanted to say I love the site and appreciate all that you do. I can’t wait until this training camp starts up and we as readers can enjoy story after story. GO BUCS

  11. Tristan Berry Says:

@the buc realist – I’m sorry… I don’t get every memo, so I may have missed it, but is Josh Freeman’s progress in every area supposed to be reported to you?

  12. Hawaiian Buc Says:

@the buc realist- I’m also sorry… I didn’t know that Freeman wasn’t allowed to do anything besides work on football. God forbid he have a hobby. Even worse, perhaps he may meet a woman one day and she may want to pet his snake. Oh, the distractions!!!!! He obviously has no interest in football, and should be cut immediately.

  13. j lynch Says:

No wonder Morris liked him another dim bulb in the socket…
