Hip Injury May Bench Bidwell For 2009

August 12th, 2009

Looks like the Bucs may be in the market for a new punter.

eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune reports that a degenerative hip condition may force punter Josh Bidwell to miss the entire season.

Bidwell, 33, has not missed a game since 2000, but a degenerative hip problem became worse during training camp and the Bucs are shutting him down and ordering additional tests to determine whether he is healthy enough to punt in 2009.

It wouldn’t be the first time Bidwell missed an entire year, but this time for a far less worrisome issue. He missed his rookie season in 1999 fighting testicular cancer.
