Shaq Barrett Clarifies Communication Trouble

Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett

It’s true. Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett celebrated Thursday night’s win in Philadelphia with a Friday-morning pedicure.

Now that’s taking Toes On The Line to the extreme. Greg Schiano would have loved to coach Shaq. Perhaps Rex Ryan, too?

But Shaq had other things to say Friday on SiriusXM NFL Radio beyond the care of his feet.

Shaq talked about how the Bucs must improve their communication on defense. The “C-word” is often a popular and easy excuse for coaches and players. But Shaq said communication while defending a hurry-up offense is lacking — and was on Thursday — and it’s a key area of improvement for the Bucs.

Joe wonders whether Lavonte David’s absence is a factor.

Shaq also said the team isn’t playing and winning the way they want to — “we always have a little meltdown at some point in the game” — but the overall jelling is happening faster than in 2020. So everything feels good, he said.

The Bucs’ sackmaster talked about how he’s waiting for a team to try and pound the rock 30 times against the Bucs’ historic run defense. He said the defense certainly is not expecting that but they are always planning for it.

Trust me, Lavonte absence is a factor, but I have always liked Minter and he’s been with the Bucs system for a while now.

JPP was a liability against the Eagles.

He was gassed during critical plays and had no burst. This will show up in the tape.

Hopefully they rotate JTS for more plays.

  3. Mike Johnson Says:

Hope the D does finally come together. It has to in order for us to repeat. Right now, we are simply outscoring everybody. And that will not work for 17 games or the playoffs. We shall see.

  4. gbobucsfan Says:

It felt like Nelson was getting more snaps than JTS.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

gbobucsfan … Optical illusion. JTS got 19 snaps in the Eagles game and 17 snaps in the Dolphins game, while Nelson got 12 snaps in the Eagles game & 11 snaps in the Dolphins game. I think the TV cameras are just playing tricks on our minds because Nelson’s taller & heavier.

SlyPirate … I agree with you about JPP. I still don’t think that he’s anywhere near 100%. He’s a warrior & wants to be on the field, but yes now would be a good time to get JTS (and Nelson & Gill) some more snaps in JPP’s stead. We’ll need JPP at 100% towards the end of the season and on into the playoffs.

  6. Hodad Says:

Nelson is flat out garbage. The Bucs need to give another D end a look. I don’t see any burst, power, or moves. Look at his stat line, by now a QB should’ve at least tripped over him. He’s easily man handled one, on one. There has to be a body from the PS, or off the street who can do better.

  7. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

I would love to see Cam Gill take those snaps away from Nelson.

  8. David Says:

LVD missing is key to that.

As for team that will try to pound the rock against them… Unless they face Baltimore or Tennessee I don’t see that happening. Although Chicago is a run heavy team..
