Panthers Implode; Saints Move Into Second In NFC South

October 17th, 2021

Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold reminds Joe a lot of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. He’s a spectacular talent prone to mistakes and reasonable people don’t expect him to win anything.

Darnold’s 11-play, 96-yard, fourh-quarter drive today — and two-point conversion — to send the Vikings-Panthers game into overtime was a thing of beauty. The guy shook off bad drops by receivers and multiple fourth-down plays to be a hero.

But all the exctitement was short-lived. The Panthers’ defense was no match for Dalvin Cook and Kirk Cousins, and the Vikings (3-3) marched to a touchdown to open overtime and send Carolina (3-3) to its third consecutive loss. Darnold’s heroics couldn’t overcome his earlier sloppiness.

Joe was fired up. Now the Panthers have lost three consecutive NFC games. Conference record is a critical tiebreaker if (football gods forbid) the Bucs were tied with the Panthers to end the regular season.

The slimy Saints, 3-2 and on their bye week, are now alone in second place in the NFC South. The Bucs sit at 5-1.

The Saints head to Seattle next week while the Panthers travel to play the miserable Giants. Atlanta (2-3) comes out of its bye week with a game at Miami (1-5), followed by hosting the Panthers.

Joe would not be shocked if the Falcons are sitting at 4-3 in second place in the NFC South — with a tiebreaker edge on Carolina — when Halloween Sunday is over.

The Bucs are in New Orleans on Halloween, when Joe expects Jameis to give the football away like its mini-Snickers to trick-or-treaters.

Darnold does not have what it takes to maneuver his team to the superbowl. The Jameis Winston comparison is a good one.

  2. Bojim Says:

I felt like the team gave up on Darnold.

  3. SteveK Says:

    Hell yeah Joe!

Can’t wait, fire up for some fun size snickers on Halloween!

  4. Youngbucs Says:

Joe trying to get the comments blazing lol.

  5. Elita Vita Says:

    Darnold>Winston

  6. JimmyJack Says:

Lot of people were high on the Panthers(Ill admitt I was starting to buy in) but it looks like they peaked in September. By the time we play the Panthers late in the season I expect them to be fighing for a Wildcard at best. We should be in position to be fending for one of the top spots.

Looks like the Saints will be our biggest threat for the division. That will be an important game on Halloween.

  7. BuxfaninTX Says:

    Sam Darnold= Ryan Fitzpatrick

  8. Thisisouryear!! Says:

The panthers qbs are always good until they lose Christian Mccafrey. That always kills that offense.

  9. Craig Says:

The average season for our old QB was 7-9. His outlier was 10-6.

The Saints will implode somewhere along the line, though they still might still get a wildcard, a lot of bad teams in the NFC.

  10. SB~LV Says:

Saints into 2nd at 3-2 not concerned at this point. Jameis will revert to just a tease above his historical mean

  11. BayAreaBucs Says:

These pathetic Panthers pansies defense is their weakest link.
The slimy Saints scum bags have Jameis on such a short leash, Jaboo will rear his ugly head, throwing a bunch of INTs soon enough.
And last but not least the feeble-minded Falcons, SB failures have no guts with Matt Ryan (28-3) haunted by spirit of TB12.

It would be good to see some other teams step up and knock off the Cards, Rams Packers and Cowboys. Bucs can’t afford to drop more than 2 games the rest of the way, we secure the first round bye and the NFC road to the Super Bowl goes through Ray Jay Champa Bay.

  12. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Three things the Panthers need:

    1) Get some new hideous uniforms
    2) Have Darnold say he needs to just be better on a weekly basis
    3) #getweapondsfordarnold

That my friends, is a sure fire recipe for long term success!

  13. Jerry Says:

You would think the Panthers would stop basing their whole offense on the back of McCaffrey every year, who can never stay healthy.

If the Bucs win the next two games, we will be in the driver’s seat for the division.

  14. Rod Munch Says:

People still obsessed with Winston, they’re psycho ex’s who just can’t move on.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

Stupid Patriots, what a bunch of losers. Should have taken out the Cowboys, and blew it.

Matt Jones earns some props though, it seems like he can do more but they’re really limiting what they allow him to do.

  16. Sean Says:

Looks like the Bucs aren’t getting much help today other than the Panthers who came close to coming back. Packers won, Cowboys won, Cardinals won, Rams won. I think the Washington ***skins are of no concern, neither are the Seahawks.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

The Saints game will be interesting if the Saints don’t have Thomas back, it will be a battle of no-NFL caliber WRs vs no-NFL caliber CBs. If they have Thomas back, he’ll probably get 20 receptions for 200 yards.

  18. DoooshLaRue Says:

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

  19. Steven007 Says:

Wish Seattle had Wilson for their game versus the Saints. Evens things out a bit with Smith starting.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

DooDooocuhe… who had the Chris Meyers game today? Did you listen to every moment of it, get your fill for the week?

  21. JimBuc2 Says:

Agree with Jerry, and those next two games don’t exactly strike fear. We’re crusin’, people. TB12 is driving the NFC bus, and I’ll wager that burns worse than bile in Sean Payton’s guts. I don’t hate the guy, but I’m not gifting him a roll of Tums, either. Sorry Sean, but it’s your turn in the barrel.
    LFG Bucs!

  22. Colonel Angus Says:

I expect to see a lot of Taysom Hill packages when we face the Saints. I think Payton has been keeping Hill under the radar, so far, on purpose. I can’t stand Sean Payton, but he’s a hell of a game planner.

  23. Jerry Says:

Looks like the Bucs can’t drop more than one or two more if they want a serious crack at the first seed. None of the other division leaders are losing. Although it’ll get a bit complicated in the weeks ahead. Some will have to lose.

Cardinals are playing the Packers on Oct 28th. Someone will have to lose that one. Rams have a few tough opponents to finish the year including Cardinals, Packers, and Ravens. Packers are playing a bunch of these teams. I don’t see the Packers winning out.

Cardinals are a tough team to gauge right now. I just don’t know what to think of that team. They are playing really well. But something just keeps telling me they are peaking too soon and someone will figure them out.

The Cowboys play some very easy teams but also some teams that could easily trip them up. Cardinals, Broncos, Raiders, and Chiefs. And we have the tie-break over Dallas. They aren’t going to win out.

This is why many are saying that the Bucs have the easiest path to the first seed. The Bills are really our toughest opponent left. After that it’s a step down to the Saints. But I won’t say the Saints are easy wins. Those games are never easy and for whatever reason that team always plays us hard. I know Brees is gone. They aren’t as good as they were last year. And no one knows Jameis’s ability to blow a big game better than we do. But Sean Payton is a very good coach. And I expect a heck of an effort.

  24. Bird Says:

Even cowboys struggled in NE and it wasnt pouring rain. NE blew it

I think teams are starting to figure out carolina
Mccaffrey makes a difference but cant stay healthy

Did anyone watch the Bears? Wow. Justin fields is a rook but he is in terrible situation. Another bears qb about to be called bust. I could be wrong but that offense is que terrible. Bears defense is good but bucs at home should not be close. Some players will get extra week to get healthier. Dont rush anyone back for Bears. Saints way more important and tough match up for us.

  25. Kentucky Buc Says:

Darnold has been Mr Inconsistent since college. It’s just worse now against better talent. Looks like a superstar one minute then smh the next.

  26. Parrishbucsfan Says:

I think joe needs to give away miniature snickers at Big Storm brewery every time America’s quarterback throws an interception!! 🤪

  27. Tye Says:

The way the Panthers are struggling, the Bucs may not have much competition for the division title… The saints have shown bad Winston is still present and well so they will be inconsistent so unless the Falcons magically develop a defense, not much threatens the Bucs getting the title!

  28. Rod Munch Says:

Did you see a deranged Rodgers yelling “I own you” to minorities in the stands at the Chicago game? I’m traumatized by Rodgers white supremacist rant and demand that he be suspended for the year — and I want $750,000 donated to my bank account.

The fact that Rodgers suspension would severely damage one of the primary NFC opponents of the Bucs has nothing to do with. That’s ridiculous. I just want to see justice, and some green for my time and effort of making the world a better place.

  29. Francisco Guzman Says:

Packers play a tough schedule . They will lose some games. Idk about the cowboys. Their schedule is a joke. I think bucs need to be 7-1 before the BYE

  30. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Jerry,

Teams can and do, still tie.

  31. adam from ny Says:

    in the end they’re probably around a .500 team…

    even worst…say 8-9…

because they are going to suffer 2 late season losses to us towards the end of the season…

they might be feeling good about themselves going into the final weeks just over .500, but that will change after they try to ball with the gang by the bay…

i just knew the vikings would pull that one out…

darnold did look good at the end there tho

  32. NFC south fan Says:

The division will come down to Bucks and Saints. People do not realise the injuries to both teams. Yes the Bucs have injuries but the Saints have been down 10 of their starters. When the Saints lost to the Panthers people did not notice they were down two starting receivers with one of them
being M Thomas. They are missing two of their starting all pro offensive linemen as well as their starting kicker which cost them the game. On defensive they are missing a starting cornerback as well as their best linemen.

Let’s just say after this by week the NFC south will become interesting. Do not count the Saints out. If the Saints win against the Seahawks the game in New Orleans will bw for first place!!

  33. TJ Says:

    Get them sheets ready!

  34. Youngbucs Says:

F the saints y’all want them to succeed so bad we that!

  35. RustyRhinos Says:

So your saying that Carolina Panthers QB Sam Darnold is another Mr. Entertainment now, just like the Former Buccaneer Mr. Entertainment, America’s QB, James Winston was. Is Winston still turning your motor up a notch Joe? Just can’t help it, can Ya? Oh NO!! It’s not? Well there is help for ya at your sponsor. C4MH.com, they claim to get your motor up and running again. Let you get your Groove back…

Like those several first series pick-sixes from Winston Groove, we used to have to endure, from as you called it Mr. Entertainment…
