Carlton Davis Questionable Sunday

September 17th, 2021

Another starting CB injured.

Uh, oh.

You may need to make a pit stop on the way home tonight and grab plenty of Big Storm Brewing beer after reading the following. The Bucs, already down starting cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting, now have a second starting corner injured.

Carlton Davis is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game with the Dixie Chicks. He popped up on the injury report this afternoon with a hamstring issue.

And those things don’t go away overnight.

Davis was limited in practice today. Friday practices are glorified walk-throughs.

WithMurphy-Bunting on injured reserve with no firm return timetable, it might be time to start hunting for a trade partner. Maybe some garbage team has a corner in the final year of his contract the Bucs can rent?

    Paper-thin CB depth.

  2. Lordcornelius Says:

Yeah we probably should make a move for depth

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Now this is concerning…..

  4. Bucsfan81 Says:

Well if he can’t go we basically only have Dean as a starter. We should have drafted a damn CB in round 2 not a QB that might not start for 5 years.

  5. Chris Boyd Says:

damn. i feel like both him and vea are the 2 guys that just allow us to do what we do with everyone else. this is not good

  6. Chris Boyd Says:

lucky their o line is atrocious, so t should help the guys we’ll have this week, but moving forward, i dunno

  7. BamaRich Says:

    Stephon Gilmore anyone????

  8. BucBeliever Says:

OJ for CJ Henderson straight up!

  9. Bucsfanman Says:

    No bueno!
Gonna have to work it out though. Pass-rush, pass-rush, pass-rush!

  10. Jerry Says:

Won’t be a big deal this week. But hamstring injuries linger and could be a problem vs the Rams. That game could end up combined 80 points between the two teams.

  11. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

So much for that BLOWOUT in the previous article. I think this is going to be another close game.

  12. lambeau Says:

Yes, please. The garbage Patriots have Stephon Gilmore in the final year of his contract, and he’s refusing to play so they put him on PUP, but nobody believes he’s hurt. Even better, the Jaguars are listening to offers for CJ Henderson, who’s still on his rookie contract. He would cost your 2022 first round choice plus a sweetener. Gilmore or Richard Sherman would want big contracts.

  13. Joe Says:

Problem with trading for Gilmore is he is expensive. Bucs don’t have that kind of scratch under the salary cap. So who gets cut?

  14. PassingThru Says:

    @Joe:

It would probably have to be OJ Howard (plus sweetener) for Gilmore, not that NE would do it without one of their pricey TEs getting injured. Offhand I believe OJ makes $6 million and Gilmore I think around $7 million as a significant amount of Gilmore’s contract was pushed up before the 2019 season. Gilmore was not remotely at Defensive Player of the Year level during 2019, he was so-so. Rumor had it that Belichick was demanding a first rounder for Gilmore, but no sane GM was taking on an aging Gilmore, especially not at his level of play plus his demands for a pricey, long-term deal.

The only way it makes sense is if a NE TE goes down and Gilmore agrees to play for a single season in order to showcase what he’s got left in the tank. He’s not someone you extend. In all likelihood he’s not even healthy enough to start anyway.

  15. Mike Johnson Says:

Secondary is very weak. Just outscore the Falcons because they will score.

  16. PSL Bob Says:

Maybe we could bring back Mike Smith to coach up the secondary. At least that way we’d have an excuse for getting torched.

  17. Robert Says:

Put AB in at CB and we’ll be good!

It would be a sight for sure!

  18. Lord Cornelius Says:

We don’t need a #1 CB we need a vet who can spot start.

Saw we had Pierre Desir – wasn’t he really good for the Colts a few years ago? It’s crazy how CBs rise and fall very fast in this league. Very mental position it seems hwere it’s rare a player stays dominant for long

  19. PassingThru Says:

Sorry I should have said 2020 season for Gilmore. I just got off the phone with a client talking FY 2019.

  20. Joe in Michigan Says:

Overthecap has Gilmore’s 2021 cap charge at over $16 million.

  21. Steven007 Says:

The past is past regarding drafting a cornerback in the second round of a draft that has been long over. Trade seems to be the only option for gaining a bit of depth. There must be plenty of options available so I’m guessing the front office is working on it.

  22. PassingThru Says:

    @Joe in Michigan

For the Patriots, not someone who would acquire him in a trade. The sportrac contract numbers have him down for $7 million base, the signing and roster bonus has already been paid and would remain on New England books.

  23. Buczilla Says:

We are going to have to seriously overpay to get a decent corner this early in the season. Howard won’t get us a bag of peanuts, so it’s gonna have to be picks and a solid player like Stinnie to probably get teams to bite.

  24. Architek Says:

    The sky isn’t falling.

  25. Cobraboy Says:

    Good lord.

    He was “limited”, not DNP.

If the hammy was bad, he’d not practice.

  26. PassingThru Says:

    @Cobraboy

“Limited” has more than one context, junior. Limited in the more benign form means that he tweaked something and thus wasn’t asked to do everything he’d normally do in practice. What makes it a potential problem is that it is a first day listing as limited. That means he was likely injured during practice and wasn’t able to continue. That is a concern.

We don’t know the extent, but what we do know is that one starting CB is out for an indeterminate amount of time, and the other starting CB has an injury to a muscle group that is notoriously slow to heal. Gee, and I thought you knew something about football.

  27. Infomeplease Says:

Time to open up the playbook. This Bucs team is capable of out scoring everyone!! That should help this week! Go Bucs!!

  28. JimmyJack Says:

Dont hold your breathe about trading for Gilmore. I see almostno way the Patriots would trade him to us. We got their QB and Gronk theres no way they are helping us go for a senond ring. It would be a total PR nightmare for that franchise. That trade makes absolutely no sense from the Pats perspective…………I guess anything is possible but that idea just sounds bizarro.

And lets just squash the OJ trade talk. He doesnt have any value and you gotta go back like 4 years to find any. The teason why yall are so eager to trade him is exactually why nobody is trading for him.

  29. ClwJB Says:

Not trading draft picks for a short term answer

Fight through the next few games and look on for another Ross Cockrell for this year

With the 32nd selection in the upcoming draft, CB, Anywhere Univ

  30. PassingThru Says:

    @JimmyJack

Yes sir. I find a trade with NE doubtful to say the least.

And OJ… the man has to play this season to have any value.

  31. Winny Testaverde Says:

NFL Network ticker shows Carlton Davis as “Out”. Bring on my man Herb Miller.

  32. Cobraboy Says:

@Passing Thru: While “limited”, according to you, has more than “one context”, you smashed your hammer on just one.

Once again you make assumptions with *zero* actual knowledge. You have no idea how hurt Davis is, none, zero, nada.

My experience is the injury report is just more Liar’s Poker. I don’t believe squat until game day, and I don’t “worry” even then.

The Falcons receivers are not the Cowboys or Rams…nor is the OL.

    Next man up.

  33. SOEbuc Says:

What happened to all JBFs s-ing Trask D in round two?

  34. Architek Says:

    Trust the coaches guys!

  35. PassingThru Says:

    @cobraboy

It’s not an assumption, junior. It’s the way NFL injury reports work.

    Get with the program.

  36. Pine Hills Says:

Pass me the Herb, and a Miller High Life.

  37. Eric Says:

    Richard Sherman
