UNCLE IRA

Minnesota
at Seattle -3

Minnesota’s defense will make life difficult for the Seahawks, who have already lost twice on the road.

Oakland
at Kansas City -10

If Oakland has any pride at all, Chucky’s guys will show up at Arrowhead.

San Francisco
at Baltimore 5.5

If any defense can contain Lamar Jackson, it’s the 49ers’.

JOE

N.Y. Jets -3
at Cincinnati

The Jets and San Darnold are starting to get warmed up. Meanwhile, Zac Taylor is giving Mike Brown a hemorrhoid.

Tennessee
at Indianapolis 2.5

The Titans have life with Ryan Tannehill while injuries mount for the Colts. Meanwhile, weirdo Colts owner Jim Irsay is often found in his office weeping while playing with a ouija board trying to locate the soul of Andrew Luck.

New England -3
at Houston

The Belicheats will continue to roll. In a desperate attempt to right the Texans’ ship, Houston strongman Bill O’Brien will ask his former quarterback at Penn State, Christian Hackenberg, to provide a motivational speech to his team.

Last week: Ira: 2-1,  Joe: 2-1.

Season record: Ira: 16-20;  Joe: 19-17.

Ira … You favored KC over Oakland by 10 points, but the Raiders are another schizophrenic team like the Bucs. Never know which team is gonna show up. Both are roller coaster rides from week to week.

Chucky has the Raiders playing some decent football (6-5 so far is better than our record) … at times. At other times they’re a horror show (like last week when they lost to the Jets 34-3). What’s interesting though is that it seems to be TURNOVERS that are a root cause of their biggest problems (hmmm, sound familiar?).

In their 6 wins, the Raiders have scored 153 points (25.5 PPG) & turned the ball over only 5 times. Their defense has allowed opponents to score only 119 points (19.8 PPG) & they’ve forced 11 takeaways. Turnover differential: PLUS 6.

In their 5 losses, the Raiders have scored only 75 points (15.0 PPG) & turned the ball over 7 times. Their defense has allowed opponents to score a whopping 163 points (32.6 PPG) & they’ve only forced 2 takeaways. Turnover differential: MINUS 5.

Hmmm, looks eerily like the Bucs’ performances. In those games where the offense turns the ball over more, the defense seems to give up more points. Wow, wonder if there’s any relationship? And in those games where the defense forces more takeaways, the offense seems to score more. Hmmm, wonder if there’s any relationship there?

But it’s the turnover DIFFERENTIAL difference in wins & losses that’s most intriguing. Hard to win any game when you have a turnover differential of 2 or more (Bucs have had FOUR games like that this year … and we’ve LOST all FOUR). History appears to bear that out year after year. IF Jameis & the Bucs ever solve THAT problem, he could be one helluva QB IMO. If not, I doubt he’d ever get anyone to the Super Bowl.

DR: if picking the Raiders is a dice pick, why give IRA grief for throwing the dice! Its a big number and the Raiders might show up….

Joe’s picks are solid as usual!

I am guessing TYE’s $5 wager did not move lines much…..

Those of you who hate the Bucs this weekend, gee why don’t you simply vote where your mouth is as it is very unusual for any Vegas line to move from Jax -4/3.5 to Bucs -2 unless everyone and their mother is going Tampa. Yeah, the better in me smells trap but why would you troll this web site with a negative pick unless you are truly a troll when the arrows are pointing upward, at least give an explanation to those who would like Tampa to win despite the fact they are a rare road fave….

  6. Defense Rules Says:

FortMyersDave … Wasn’t giving ‘Ira grief’ at all. Quite the contrary: the Raiders are very much like the Bucs (that was my point?). Depending on WHICH TEAM actually shows up, they could easily beat the Chiefs (who seem to be up-and-down themselves?). Just so happens that Raiders (like our Bucs) are a prime example of how positive/negative turnover differentials (especially those of 2 or more) seem to be associated with won/loss records. History bears that out BTW.

As an aside, still not a big fan of folks using the word ‘Hate’ to describe commenters’ feelings towards the Bucs or any other team BTW. And especially towards individual players. Wouldn’t mention that except that you chose to associate that word with my comments, and I’m anything but a Bucs ‘Hater’. Have followed the Bucs now for 37 years and enjoyed every one of them. Don’t enjoy losing (who does?), but they’re still my team. And I’m typically much more positive about each game AND the team’s play I think in individual games than most. Nothing’s ever as bad as it seems OR as good as it seems.
