Arians Chewed Out Devin White In London

October 22nd, 2019

Ripped

After an illness on opening day and an early knee injury in Week 2, last week’s return of Devin White to the lineup was almost like a second debut for the rookie savior linebacker.

White explained yesterday that he won’t soon forget it.

The No. 5 overall pick screwed up big time against the Panthers, ignoring/forgetting about Christian McCaffrey on a 25-yard catch and run for a touchdown.

It drew a thunderous response from Bucco Bruce Arians, White revealed yesterday on Buccaneers Radio.

“He very hard, but I like it though. Man, B.A. chewed me out up in London,’ White said. “And like I really didn’t know how to react to it because like playing ball in college, I ain’t going to say I never messed up, but I really never messed up. It was like I knew everything, like I was always you know, really early to know what the other team was going to do before they even did it ’cause I studied them so much and it was so comfortable.

“But this last game being my first game back, I messed up on a play and I got chewed out pretty, pretty tough. But I mean, I stood there; I looked him in the eye like a man and I took it.

“He chewed me out. I mean that’s what you do, you got to hold everybody accountable. The starting middle linebacker, the second-string middle linebacker or the third, you can’t have those mental breakdowns in the game. I’m glad he did it. It woke me up for the rest of the game and I had no more mistakes.”

Joe’s glad Arians didn’t hesitate to rip White in the middle of a game to shake him up. It appears it was a great decision.

Joe has to wonder why it appears Arians has not given Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, that kind of tongue lashing on the sidelines during Jameis’ three rough games this season. (And yeah, New Orleans was a rough game for Jameis as it relates to Arians verbally blasting Jameis in the middle of a game to shake him up. Remember, Jameis had a very early interception overturned against the Saints because he screwed up and took a delay of game penalty. Plus there was a second pick called back for an off-the-ball penalty.)  Perhaps Arians has blasted Jameis during a game? Or perhaps he knows the cameras would pick it up and it would be way overblown by media?

Regardless, White was a rookie playing in his first full game as a totally healthy player. It’s no surprise that he screwed up. A rookie is a rookie, no matter where he is drafted.

Now it’s time for White to not repeat mistakes and make a No. 5-overall-pick kind of impact against a nothing special Titans offense.

white another great high first round pick. love his impact and immediate help he has provided the defense…. aw crap wrong team….

  2. DooshLaRue Says:

The Soiled Messiah can’t handle it.
    He’s mentally unstable.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

BA Saving the “Savior”…..at least White isn’t running from mistakes….#not a diva

  4. jmarkbuc Says:

    Doosh

    Exactly.

We weren’t even a allowed competent backup, for fear of his..well you know.

  5. Ricky Says:

But can’t we find an excuse for his mistake though ? Maybe the coaches called the wrong play, or the cb didn’t cover well so he got disctracted? I mean it has to be smthng.

  6. jmarkbuc Says:

    As far as DWhite

I was pretty ambivalent with the pick. Oline woulda been OK with me. With Kwon leaving if you get a shot at the next DBrooks, what the heck.

What surprises me is how far behind he is, granted in limited time.

All these coaches, biggest staff in the NFL and none of our position groups are doing well….

Starting to read like the script from Ocean’s 11. BA and his crew pulling a slick heist.

  7. #1bucsfan Says:

Go get em DW. Plz show the world why we drafted you at #5 instead of a pass rusher. I was on board with the pick after watching tape an hearing all the hype

Give the man some time but 4th quarter of that Bucs London game white was lights out! Can’t wait to see if he carry’s that high level to the titans game.

  10. Gambelero Says:

I’d like or see Winston and White go over and chew out their coordinators once in a while for calling stupid plays.

Just once, a “Let me call the f’ing plays,” might make them give Winston more options in terms of changing plays.

  11. pelbuc Says:

I hope he’s not Hargraves part 2 but unless he starts playing up to his hype, he’ll be another GM Licht draft blunder. OJ is on deck. The blind leading the blind. SMH!

  12. pepsi Says:

Lavonte David, Kwon Alexander, Kendall Beckwith – all of them were better game 1 of their NFL careers then White has been so far. just going to say that…

  13. LordCornelius Says:

Was on the record as being against this pick but praying that Licht knows better and that drafting inside LBs in the top 5 is a great move just like building a defense using 4.5 corners instead of building an elite front 7, or prioritizing skill players over O-line. He obviously knows best lol.

  14. Bucamania Says:

I heard the interview. DW sounds like a nice guy. Too nice. I like LBs to be serious like Brooks or tough like Hardy. We’ll see.

  15. Buccfan37 Says:

Strongly pulling for White to realize his potential and to steadily improve making Buc fans proud of his early first round pick production.

If you want to hear the whole things White said about being chewed out by Arians and the reasons why listen to ‘Bucs Total Access with LB Devin White | Oct. 21’ at the Buccaneers home site.

  17. JimmyJack Says:

Holy crap dude!! That sounds like some good coaching right there.
Go back and check out Devin White in that second Half…….He was noticably quicker and was much more aware. Then started making some plays on the ball.

Bruce had to see the difference. So now we got our coach figured out how to motivate his stud rookie. Great insight Joe thanks for sharing.

Dang I can’t wait to watch D.White this week!!!! I bet it’s gonna be fun!!!

  18. Dewey Selmon Says:

Would still like to see a RB combo of Vea/White, both played RB in high school. Would make a great jumbo package at the goal line.

  19. NPRSageBoy Says:

Let’s face it; he’s no Kwon Alexander.

    Not impressed, so far either.

  20. Pewter power Says:

White is a rookie there are no vets admitting they missed an assignment and got chewed out over it which is smart business. No one is saying BA hasn’t chewed out Winston and doesn’t need to be said publicly because fans and media want to hear it, folks need get over themselves with that. It’s real easy to chew out rookies

  21. orlbucfan Says:

What happened to Kendall Beckwith, BTW? Did he quit the game cos of injury?

  22. JimmyJack Says:

**Added bonus** If we get White firing on all cylinders it majorly helps out our secondary. He takes away a lot of those trash passes we are giving up over the middle.

I was as made as anybody on the McCaffery TD. Was focused on him that whole drive and sa he m run to no man’s land without a clue where #22 was………The whole freaking reason to draft this dude was to stop those BS plays and he up and forgets know where 22 is.

  23. orlbucfan Says:

BA needs to get up off his high horse and do some imaginative play calling with the offense. Bootleg options, 2-minute drills and trick passes to his tight ends didn’t go extinct with the dinosaurs. How about a few? He’s got the players!

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Reports of Devin White’s demise are premature”

  25. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Man imagine calling a rookie playing with a knee brace that only has played in 2.1 games a bust already.

  26. Bucsfanman Says:

White’s played HEALTHY in what 1 1/2 games?! What has anyone seen yet?

  27. mike Says:

I didn’t even realize White made the trip to London.

  28. adam from ny Says:

BA is starting to cringe inside because they have apparently picked the wrong Devin…

and he realizes in about 4 weeks, sheet is going to hit the fan if this guy’s play doesn’t pick up drastically…

this guy has about 4-5 weeks to get his sheet together, before fans start lashing out against him and the higher ups that chose our so called “generational player”

bruce might be sniffing bust already…

things i already see in DW:

    – he is too nice of a guy…big problem
    – he talks way too much…can outtalk Casey Phillips on any day
-doesn’t know how to speak the english language properly
    -thus…possibly not too smart
-might just need a rookie hazing
-since it probably won’t happen, BA just yells at the kid
-BA might think he’s a bust already
-JPP is the man to haze the kid

  29. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Gimme Devin Bush!!!!

    DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do the bucs always fail with high draft picks????

  30. adam from ny Says:

also the shape of a persons head has a lot to do with a lot…

look at the shape of his head sometime…

what do you think of the shape of his cranium ???

  31. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:

“Joe has to wonder why it appears Arians has not given Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, that kind of tongue lashing on the sidelines…”
    .
    .

Probably because he already knows that it’s a fruitless endeavor.

    .

Dunno, but he’s got a wicked under bite just like Levante David. They look like a well-matched team!

  33. 813bucboi Says:

he’ll improve next year right guys….lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  34. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Remember last year everyone said Vea was a bust 6 weeks into the season and we should have taken that injury prone FSU safety. those were the days.

  35. Show me the TDs Says:

The only thing that makes me nervous about DW is the way he tackles. It seems as though he always slings people to the ground instead of blasting them. I noticed this during his draft day LSU highlights and it continues. Vlowing people up motivates your fellow defenders. Just ask the Ravens.

  36. orlbucfan Says:

    HEY JOES:
What happened to Kendall Beckwith, BTW? Did he quit the game cos of injury?
I’m serious and not trolling. He was a great draft pick. What happened??

  37. Rich Says:

Watch the game again please…..then tell me this was his only mistake!!!! He has been a TOTAL non factor….terrible tackling, poor awareness of what’s going on, seemingly a lack of effort too. I did not see a lights out play….yes, he had a nice tackle on a sweep for a loss but lights out? I THINK NOT !!!!!

  38. TDTB Says:

Cranium shape and speech patterns? Really? I thought nobody could be worse at evaluating players than Licht & Co. I guess I was wrong.

  39. Tim Says:

JW might be too soft to handle it and BA doesn’t want to hurt his feelings?
Who knows, but if JW keeps this type of play up he will be missing out on the Franchise tag next year.

  40. Jimmy Says:

Should have drafted Allen or traded back and drafted OL or CB. Even if White was good, we didn’t need a first round LB.

  41. Bird Says:

No one is off limits from BA …except Jameis.

    “He looks fantastic “

  42. mike10 Says:

Have seen a whole lotta mehhh from this guy since he came on.

At this point, we picked the wrong Devin at LB.

  43. firethecannons Says:

I like that–he gets chewed out–he aint been chewed out like that since earliest memory and he takes it, learns from it and is more focused after. Basic coaching–wonder what BA does to the defensive backs. good stuff Joe!
Devin White is a rook first and we forget that–good team player–good for the team to see Devin White get an ass chew. Love this team but we gonna have to have serious change for us to get anywhere.
    1)new Quarterback
    2)new right tackle
    3)new left tackle possibly
    4)buy two cornerback in FA

  44. Bucnjim5656 Says:

You do know why no one yells at mentally weak individual’s right? They’ll start crying and that would be embarrassing!

  45. Getaclue Says:

Bet he can still taste that stiff arm too

  46. Buczilla Says:

I’m hoping that Eugene Marve Jr. turns into Hardy Nickerson Jr. over the next few weeks and makes me look like a jacka$$ for disagreeing with his selection at 5 (!) overall.

  47. richbucsfan Says:

For those with a short memory…Kwon was lost as a goose in a snow storm his first season.

  48. Sharthappens Says:

Sounds like we got another mental midget in the first round. Can we at least draft a guy that can speak like someone that truly went to college and received an education. White and Winston sound like two Brooklyn ghetto rats with redneck twist.

  49. Buccaneerscotty Says:

Should have been ripping Winston a new a-hole and benching his sorry ass!!! But no don’t hurt his feelings or have any Competition behind him???? 🤯🤯🤯

    Short Arms.

    No length.

Kevin Minter and Deonnr Buccannon would have been fune.

We could have traded back twice and still got a great player.

The deepest D-line draft in a decade, and we pick a short MLB with stumpy arms.

    Only the Bucs!

I thought I saw BA trying to get Winston’s attention Sunday but he was to busy eating W’s. What a fool.
