Hype Tripe

August 19th, 2019

Doesn’t care.

A lot of Bucs fans grumble when heading out to work in the morning that national sports networks and reporters aren’t giving the Bucs any respect.

As Joe likes to say, respect is earned and the only thing the Bucs have earned in the post-Chucky era is well-deserved ridicule for being one of the worst franchises in the NFL.

While some Bucs fans may care about what folks in Los Angeles or New York or Connecticut may say about the Bucs, it sure sounds like Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians doesn’t give a s(p)it.

Asked today if he thought his team may be flying under the radar or disrespected by a lack of hype, Arians basically blew the subject off.

“What’s it worth?” Arians asked of hype. “It doesn’t mean anything, either way. If it helps sell tickets, give me more hype.”

We are a bandwagon nation. We like to jump on the it-things, whether it be a new gadget from Apple, a new Adam Sandler movie or Kay Adams. The next big thing in the NFL we don’t know yet but whatever it is, folks will throw punches trying to find room on the bandwagon.

If the Bucs start out the season strong and America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is lighting up defenses, just watch.

We can only pray that we start off well. Tough schedule with a very weak lineup usually does not = success.

  2. AllhailJPP Says:

We will start strong..ppl will get excited….road trip starts…..crash and burn

  3. Buc believer Says:

I have such mixed emotions about this situation. I trust Arians. Licht I wouldn’t trust if my life depended on it. I like some parts of our team (receivers being at the top) kicker I have a tiny bit of faith in, our cornerbacks need some MAJOR help and our O line is the worst in football especially with a scrub like Benenoch on it. Just so freeking many questions. I guess we just need to sit back and play it out. As Buc fans it’s like the late great Hyman Roth of God Father fame said… “THIS IS THE LIFE WE HAVE CHOSEN”

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Adam Sandler movie? REALLY Joe? Is he still making movies?

I agree with BA … When it comes to opinions about how good or poorly we’ll do, “What’s it worth?” IF we can get several starters back healthy, and IF we can pick up a couple of FAs prior to Sep 8th, THEN we might be able to hold our own during this 1st half of the season. Lots of other IFs but other teams most likely have similar issues. It’ll be interesting to see what this team really has. Might surprise a lot of people.

You are what your record says you are. Win and fans will line up behind you. Really, not all that complicated.

  6. Mort Says:

Probably don’t jump on kay adams too hard.

    1: she wont like it
B: you’re not tiny. You’d probably cause injury.

And yes Adam Sandler still makes movies. Recently came out with a murder mystery comedy with Jennifer Aniston – its on Netflix.

  7. Ra'Shad Says:

Right now our record and every other team is the same. I could care less about what bspn, and others think about the bucs.

  8. Dewey Selmon Says:

Remember when Lovie came out of his basement and said we are not rebuilding and should expect the playoffs? Season was over by Halloween. I have to hold my breath ever time Jameis drops back or Matt Gay lines up for a FG attempt. Thank God for alcohol.

  9. Buc Wild Says:

If we don’t make the playoffs, I bet you that 2 month stretch where we don’t get to play at Ray J has a huge factor.

  10. tmaxcon Says:

respect is earned by actual accomplishments not just handed out based on false hope and wishful thinking like buc fan-base does year in and year out….. never fear the nut punches are coming!

  11. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Joe…appreciate the “spit” reminder……RIP Steve Duemig.

  12. Tye Says:

Hype is for WINNERS and contenders…

The Bucs haven’t been either one since Mr. Malcom’s health left business operations in the hands of his offspring… People debate whether they care about winning… It was their fathers that was left to them.. I get wanting to hold on to what was passed down to you from your father but to do it a make a mockery of his team at the same time seems wrong..
Either sell the team OR honor father’s memory by bringing in a top GM who will hire a young, creative HC (to be there for years to come), who will attract the some of the top quality OC and DC… Draft a top talent QB, lineman, rb, and pass rushers so for years to come they will be a reason to hype this team… At the least, mention them for something positive…
But for now, they’ve earned their rep as bottom of the league!

  13. Clw JB Says:

BA can and will get this team ready, but there is only so much that can be done in one off-season

  14. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

As someone who travels between Tampa and NYC for work, nationally no one cares about the Bucs. Zero hype outside of Tampa.

Time to win or continue to be an afterthought

  15. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Would have to call Adam Sandler a “flash in the pan”. Many of our fans here have a short attention span and only a short term memory retention.

  16. Tye Says:

    Loyaltotheend,

That’s not something new… When I use to travel, if I just wore a Bucs hat I would often get people come up to me as if they were compelled to make snide comments about the team…

  17. Rayjay1122 Says:

Sign me up for jumping on Kay. Lol

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

Think Arians startin to worry just a tad.

  19. Clean House Says:

This is the life we chose

  20. Trench War Says:

As a real Buc fan, I can’t stand bandwagon fans. And if they start throwing punches, they’ll get their arse whooped.

  21. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

The only hype this team has seen in a decade was when the Beard was lighting the NFL on fire last season.

  22. Buc1987 Says:

Like the Amish Rifle was lighting up the Bucs 3rd team D last week coming out in the second half for the Fins….

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I’ll pass on hype AND negativity. Just give me unbiased balance.

“As a real Buc fan, I can’t stand bandwagon fans. ”

Bandwagon fans do buy tickets though. There is that.

  25. Old School Athlete Says:

We have good teams in our division, so if we could ever start winning divisional games, the respect will come. If we keep choking away fourth quarter leads with stupid penalties, blown coverages, and missed assignments, we will remain firmly anchored in Buccaneer Cove.

  26. tmaxcon Says:

anyone thinking adam sandler is a flash in the pan might want to check out his networth…. if that’s a flash in the pan sign me up….

Adam Sandler has an estimated net worth of $420 million.

bonzi ticket revenue is irrelevant chump change sir…. tv money is why glazers could careless about fielding a winner and have no reason to filed a winner. ticket sales are meaningless in the big picture of nfl revenue. corporate boxes and tv revenue the rest is simply petty cash… bucs are the NFL welfare babies…. revenue sharing aka wealth redistribution is what drives glazers and bucs…

  27. LargoBuc Says:

But tmax dont all 32 teams divide the pie evenly.

  28. 74 Bucs fan Says:

Adam Sandler is the man! Comedy tour is rocking, several animated movies out, he’s all over the place as he always has been – doing is own thing and making bank. If nothing else, Adam could have hung it up and walked away after Happy Gilmore and Waterboy – classics! “Price is wrong B!tch!”
