Jameis Liked The Energy And Effort

September 13th, 2015

Jameis Winston 2There is no head-hanging from America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

In fact, Jameis referenced after the chain-whipping at the hands of the Titans how he emotionally was picking up teammates on the sidelines throughout the 42-14 loss today.

Joe felt compelled to ask Jameis if he thought the Bucs put it all on the field for the home crowd. Joe didn’t see that. Neither did Lovie Smith, but did Jameis?

JoeBucsFan.com: Jameis, did you feel the energy and the effort was right all the way through with the Bucs today?

Jameis Winston: We never gave up. We never gave up. They played the best game they could possibly play, and we played the worst game we could possibly play. The good thing is we got that out of the way. You know, if they keep playing like that it’s going to be amazing. We got our worst game out of the way. We can’t look back now.

Jameis later said it’s not in his DNA to feel the blues.

“I will never get down. Because like Coach Koetter always says, bad body language will hurt us,” Jameis said. “You know, so, one thing, our guys, we did not give up. We got beat.”

It may sound perverse, but Joe hopes Jameis is wrong and this was not the Bucs’ best effort. Because if that’s true, the Bucs’ offensive line is going to be worse than many thought, which would be hard to fathom.

I liked that the Titans DBs had stone hands and that it wasn’t 5 INTs instead. NFL record is probably in play this season.

  2. The original "Kevin" Says:

    Fire Lovie promote Koetter

  3. ek Says:

    Fire Lovie.

  4. Elle Says:

Ha ha ha, whaaaaaaaaaaat? I’m not one of those “WE HAD TO DRAFT MARIOTA, SCREW WINSTON” kinda fan, but this is too much even for me. Are you serious? Dude, you better keep your head down and talk less, because saying such things could alienate even fans like me who don’t put the blame all on Winston. You got beat fair and square, effort doesn’t mean anything, you just looked bed, the whole team did. Fans have heard such excuses way too many times recently. Your best effort and not giving up is NOT ENOUGH.

  5. The original "Kevin" Says:

Than I would say trade Gerald Mccoy Winston and David to the Titans for Mariotta but they would laugh at us…

  6. DB55 Says:

    Koetter is overrated too

  7. AbandonShip Says:

Joe- the label “America’s Quarterback” is usually reserved for players who DON’T put their team in a fourteen point hole with their very first pass. “America’s Quarterback” should be reserved for players that grade higher than 64/159(that’s 40%) on the accepted grading scale. Let No 3 EARN a title based on his performance in the NFL, like “GarbageQB” or “The Other Team’s Favorite Player”.

  8. The original "Kevin" Says:

SEIGE THE DAY!!!!!!LEAD THE WAY JAMEIS!!!!!

  9. Clint Says:

We have no depth as far as targets go after Jackson, ASFJ, and Evans. When one of those guys are hurt, you really realize there is just nowhere to go with the ball in terms of having someone NFL caliber if Seferian-Jenkins or Jackson are covered or something. Pathetic roster assembly.

  10. Ray Rice Says:

That’s too much muthafukin kool aid!

  11. Warthog Says:

They should fire Lovie now. He’s not going to turn it around this season so he’ll be gone before next year anyhow. The sooner the team moves on, the better. Koetter for interim HC.

  12. cmurda Says:

I guess I fail to see the problem in what Jameis said. I would rather our #1 pick have confidence than cry about this one. Put it behind us and hope the effort and team pick up in a hurry. I still think Lovie should be canned for this one but it won’t happen so I’ll hope for the best.

I think Americas quarteback was wearing blue today. Looks like we swung and missed.

    WE SUCK AGAIN!!!!!!!

THANKS glaziers. Hey can we as the fans at least vote on what next years pathetiv slogan will be heading into anoyher losing season????Please pretty pleeeeaaaaasssse!!!!!!! I GOT it lets just keep it simple and make it “arrrrgggggghhhhhh” That way we REALLY SOUND as stupid as our team does every sunday

  15. The original "Kevin" Says:

Please nobody get on here and make excuses. Im so sick of the excuses. Ive been living on excuses and im done. Lack of depth with our weapons???? Pretty sure a rookie qb and kendell wright with harry douglas just made us look likea bunch of cou tnty construction workers. Wtf….it starts at the top. We need new owners. Id love to see Lovie gone tomorrow but would it really fix it???We need new owners. I wish we had an owner like the lightning. Someone involved. Someone who wants success not just in theyre wallets but someone who wants to bring the fanbase back to life with a quality product. Glazier boys are clowns. How often are they at the games???In the locker rooms???

  16. BrianBucs Says:

    @ Joe

After what we all saw today, you can stop with all of that “America’s Quarterback” crap. Now it’s just laughable and silly.
I’m not going to give up on Jameis after one game, but it was quite obvious today that the Bucs drafted the wrong QB

  17. Waspinator Says:

Jamis Tebow loses his first pro game 42 – 14.

  18. WantstaStayaBuc Says:

Awful never felt so good. Hey Noles, you’ll need to make excuses for his on-the-field stuff now too. Have fun.

Mariota doesn’t seem so boring now does he? Was he not enough of a leader for you? He seemed pretty well in control to me. In fact, as he sat on the sideline in the third quarter he was very composed.

Mariota got rid of the ball quickly and confidently. What did you think of Winston’s passing? A good quarterback knows to get rid of the ball quickly if the line can’t hold.

You said for people like me to cheer for another team if we disagreed with taking Winston with the pick; All I need to say is “Thanks!” You wished for this. You demanded it. Poor character, who cares? Poor decisions, hey he’s a gunslinger! Interceptions, heck it was his recievers that did that!

Joes and your fans, you deserve this.

  19. Buccos Says:

Left the game at halftime, like a lot of other people did. Never done that before. Can somebody wake me in ten years. Thanks.

  20. Louis Friend Says:

    @Joe

The America’s Quarterback name has to end. It sounds like sarcasm now. He was being booed by his own home crowd today. Along with everyone else on that miserable excuse of a football team.

  21. Bucs53 Says:

ELLE, I don’t know what your issue is with it. This is exactly what they coach them to say—the “we can’t look back, only look forward,” and the “they played their best and we played our worst” is typical post game speech.

    I don’t see what the problem is….

  22. This Guy Right Here Says:

As much as Lovie and his D shat all over Ray J today, and as inebriated as I am, I still refuse to put any of this weight on Jameis…

Lovie on the other hand, and those vets on D, theyve been doing this year in-year out… Those motherless fcks just robbed all those folks at the stadium of their money and time, robbed me of 3 hours of my Sunday…

Until Lovie grows some balls, spreads some fat-balled swag to his players, his soft ass is coaching himself outta the league at this point…

    GRUDEN/KOETTER/MARINELLI in 2016!!!

  23. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Joe

#3 was sacked 4 times. That’s hardly an awful number. In fact I’d have to review video to see how many of those were actual sacks due to the OL and how many were #3 tripping in the backfield. I honestly do not remember.

The OL was NOT the problem today.. #3 sucked big time. It’s one game. I get that. But he can’t seem to hold on to the ball..slippery hands? Shades of the Rose Bowl play. He has the most uncoordinated feet of any QB I’ve seen in recent years. His footwork make MG8 look agile in the pocket. He NEEDS lots of work. We were sold a bill of goods on the NFL ready crap.

But he DOES possess all the intangibles..the leadership…and the cannon for an arm…but gawd does this kid need work!

Meanwhile it’s clear MM was the better choice…short term and long term. He’s simply a better athlete. His quiet demeanor may aggravate some here but that may actually be the problem for #3. He has a history of starting like this dating back to FSU…perhaps he’s simply too competitive and gets too fired up.

I haven’t given up on him as a “franchise QB”. It doesn’t really matter if MM is going to be a bigger star…Eli Manning is not nearly as good as Aaron Rodgers but the Giants still do pretty well with him. I haven’t given up on #3 but he has a LOOOOONG way to go.

  24. Rhonnie Says:

These Mariota fans need to go whine somewhere else. Once again, he’s a rookie. He had less turnovers and more TDs than Luck, Peyton Manning, and Cutler had in their debuts (all of whom play a comparable style). I guess these moronic trolls wanted RG3 over Luck initially.

  25. J Says:

lol he’s making excuses they played best we played worse. No credit to the team kicking their ass. Did we get worse?

  26. Rhonnie Says:

Much like his post-Rose Bowl conference, Jameis gets harassed for being positive and saying the right things. Guess these clowns would rather have Mariota crying after a tough loss.

  27. J Says:

JaRube padded stats in garbage time

  28. LargoBuc Says:

Damn. We should have just went all in on Glennon. Seriously. We might actually stand a chance in the pathetic NFCSouth that way. Draft Ereck Flowers and Randy Gregory, but no. We spend our first overall pick on some dumbass that keeps tripping over his own feet. He cant even throw a checkdown without throwing an int!
But we are stuck with Jameis and this weak ass defense and our stupid coach.

  29. Uncle Albert Says:

His statement is laughable……. Jameis’ performance tonight was the worst I have seen from a QB in about 30 years, rookie or not…….. And for anyone to suggest it was all the offensive line’s fault is sheer fantasy. Yes, the Offensive line was putrid, and the Defense was probably even worse!!! But the play of Winston was even more disheartening!! This guy is supposed to be our franchise quarterback, and he was despicable….. The only only time he could even complete passes was when the Titans put their backups in… Just let that marinade, a truly horrible team put in their backups against our Bucs in a regular season game!! What does that say about our team?? Disgusting, Putrid, and these guys should be embarrassed to get their paychecks on Monday, from Licht and Lovie on down to the whole team… Embarrassing…

  30. J Says:

Wansta and Ray Velcoro were right. You get the life/team you deserve. Those of us who want the team to succeed will continue to say we screwed the pooch

  31. The original "Kevin" Says:

Titans should have had 4 or 5 picks and asj td was garbage time. Sorry but..Mariotta was and is the gy. This team screwed up again. Not saying Winston will not be good but Mariotta will always be better. The same thing will be said every year for the next decade….assuming Winston is still playing

  32. Tom Edrington Says:

Jameis should apologize to the fans…..

Tennessee called off the dogs….could have been 63 put upon the Bucs.

  33. BuccoBill Says:

“Joe hopes Jameis is wrong and this was not the Bucs’ best effort. Because if that’s true, the Bucs’ offensive line is going to be worse than many thought, which would be hard to fathom.”

There it is. It was the fault of the offensive line. Really? They opened some nice holes for DM22 and the rookie linemen only had 1 penalty between the two of them. The lions share were on Gosder Cherilus. And yeah they missed some pass protect assignments, but they picked up plenty as well. There were more than a few times that JW3 Had time to throw and couldn’t get the ball to anyone. But, okay Joe’s, We’ll blame it all on the offensive line. So predictable. And now for all of Joe’s nipple suckling minions to start bashing my opinion. and calling me names. Also pretty predictable.

  34. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

Well the silver lining is that if today is a sign of things to come the Bucs will:

    (1) be picking #1 again in the draft
    (2) have a new HC and coordinators
    (3) hopefully have the chance to either trade back in the draft to do what they should have done this last time…(bolster both lines/acquire more picks) OR get the real “next Andrew Luck” and draft Christian Hackenberg if he enters next year’s draft.

If today was a sign of what we can expect out of #3 and if Licht is all about moving from his mistakes (ala former mentor Belicheat) then as painful a thought as it is we don’t want to end up like the Redskins with RG3.

  35. J Says:

The line played well. Jameis got 2 sacks on balls he dropped and dove on

  36. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

And no I’m not hating on Jameis after 1 game…my point was only if he continues to put up performances like today’s…not hitting the panic button after only one game.

  37. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Brett Favre first nfl pass was int for td…luck threw 2 picks his first start… lovie is the problem not jameis this should have been a 13-7 ugly bucs game but lovie is clueless in being stubborn and sticking with a horrible outdated defense.. a friggin rookie threw in the hole all day long and lovie never adjusted and that makes him either stoopid or the players dont listen…mariotta is goinf to get thumped back to earth when he plays an NFL defense that disguises coverages and blitzes… jameis will be fine… the bucs need to trade the #1 overall for a bunch of picks n players

  38. This Guy Right Here Says:

We should have put Mike Evans in… Todays game was one of the few must-wins of the season… Hell, I already know how it went down:

Mike Evans: Coach Smith, I’m 100%. Let me play today.

Lovie Smith: Well Can you create some turnovers for us?

Mike Evans: Turnovers? Well no, cause I play offens-

Lovie Smith: Well son, we need guys on the field who can create turnovers.. So why dont you sit this out.

Mike Evans: But coach, Youre not makin any motherfckin sense.. Im a receiver.. I dont create turnovers..

Lovie Smith: And you never will with that attitude… So lets go on and sit you out…

Mike Evans: But coach, Im ready to sht all over these guys today.

Lovie Smith: Not with a potty mouth like that.. Make it 2 games.

Mike Evans: I hate you coach.

Lovie Smith: Well, by this time tomorrow, so will the rest of Tampa.

    (ME13 runs off crying)

  39. BrianBucs Says:

I wonder if the Glazers realize tonight that they made yet another bad mistake in choosing their head coach and GM, who intern made a bad QB mistake?

  40. BucDaddy82 Says:

4 quick facts and examples of HOF and Great QB’s with bad first starts

Jameis will be fine it was ONE game. Not a division or conference game and it only counts as one loss.

I recently remember that RG3 had a fantastic first start and rookie season. How did that work out??

    1. Troy Aikman
Drafted: No. 1 overall by the Dallas Cowboys in 1989.
    * First start: Loss (28-0) to the Saints in Week 1 of 1989; 17 of 35 (48.6 percent) for 180 yards, zero touchdowns, two interceptions, two sacks and a passer rating of 40.2.

    2. Andrew Luck
Drafted: No. 1 overall by the Indianapolis Colts in 2012.
    * First start: Loss (41-21) to the Bears in Week 1 of 2012; 23 of 45 (51.1 percent) for 309 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions, three sacks and a passer rating of 52.9.

    3. Peyton Manning
Drafted: No. 1 overall by the Indianapolis Colts in 1998.
    * First start: Loss (24-15) to the Dolphins in Week 1 of 1998; 21 of 37 (56.8 percent) for 302 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions, four sacks and a passer rating of 58.6.

    4. Fran Tarkenton
Drafted: No. 29 overall (third round) by the Minnesota Vikings in 1961.
    * First start: Loss (21-7) to the Cowboys in Week 2 of 1961; 8 of 24 (33.3 percent) for 117 yards, zero touchdowns, two interceptions, three sacks and a passer rating of 15.5.

  41. J Says:

Bucdaddy I like the positive attitude but MM was 12-15 4 tds

  42. Dracula Says:

But Mike Evans said we were the best 2-14 team in the NFL.

  43. tval Says:

Look a the expected overreaction. I remember 1994, when my eagles beat steve youngs 9ers 44–8 in week 3 or 4. Charlie garner was tony dorsett, for a week. The eagles went on to miss the playoffs, and steve young grew and won his first super bowl. For perspectives sake. This game, and the rest of his career, will be a mirror image of a single game performance @ fsu. Some struggles early, followed by historic success. Any team that loses their #1 wr, and focus of the defense, is in trouble. Obviously a team this young and vulnerable would suffer dramatically. That changed the game. Howd luck do today? :). Ive said it for 3 years. Marcus did well but nothing unexpected vs a defense on its heels. He’ll crash down to earth very soon. But im glad whisenhunt is adjusting to him, not vice versa. Good coach

  44. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Being “Pro-ready” is overrated……

  45. Greg Schiano Says:

Hey…who ever was bashin on Tebow better shut up! Tebow has a winning NFL record…Porky can’t say that. Tebow has won a NFL playoff game…that is more than most QB’s can say in the NFL. It took Romo almost a decade to get his first one….

Now…I am not a hater of JW for his play….I honestly believe he played to his expected level for a rookie. I do feel he may have done better to keep his mouth shut, but he was not drafted for being bright.

Look at the bright side…..Lovie told you all that as of tonight….the Buc’s are within 1 game of first place and they are only 1 game out of first place in the playoff hunt…so do not despair!! JW is only 1 game away from leading his team back!!!! Although anyone who brags about his 2 touchdowns is in need of help, because one of those should have been his 3rd interception for the game!. Both TD’s were against the 2nd team and when MM was on the bench relaxing.

The fault here lies with the HC and those who support him. The 3 timeouts in the first half are clear examples of how poor Lovie’s game management and his inability to game plan for a team that was 2-14 last year….should have had the #1 pick and still would have taken MM with the #1 pick overall.

Fire Lovie now….send him packking with his pal the Big Poodle.

  46. Greg Schiano Says:

Hopefully this does put an end to the “America’s Quarterback” because I am here to tell you that America was not given a vote…and having a pretty good idea of what America thinks about Famous Porky, he is definitely NOT America’s anything. He should keep the only thing as large as as graceful as his feet…that being his mouth closed because no one wants to here his excuses.

  47. Pewter Lou Says:

I usually just read the posts and enjoy the banter, but I’ll be dammed if y’all ain’t the whiniest bunch

  48. Buc1987 Says:

Greg Schiano…you wanted Winston to keep his mouth shut at a press conference?

  49. BrianBucs Says:

I wonder if during or after the game Jameis was wishing he would have been picked #2 ? I know I was

  50. Sick of Lovie Says:

Lots of people saying we drafted the wrong QB…..

Really? You really think that if we drafted Mariota that he would have whopped the Titans like he did us? Fools. The Bucs looked like they skipped training camp. It was over right after the kick off. Who on this team knows anything about winning in the NFL besides Vjax? McCoy? Nope. Winston? Nope. LVD? Nope. They have to learn how to win and it might take all season, so get used to i, its gonna be ugly.

The Titans looked amazing in every category. QB play, play calling, pass blocking, run game, pass rush, run defense……..

They were ready to play and took complete advantage on every single mistake we made. Dont give up on Winston, but shut the door on Lovie, hes done.

  51. NC FlorIdiot Says:

I have a gut feeling that if we would have drafted MM, he would’ve looked just as bad as JW did today… Point being, our whole organization sucks… How do you fix it?

  52. Johnny Dejay Says:

Can we just get Josh Freeman back instead?
