Chilling words from Derrick Brooks

Chilling words from Derrick Brooks

Bucs legend Derrick Brooks didn’t like what he saw Sunday in Detroit — early in the first quarter.

That’s right. Brooks watched the Bucs-Lions game with his trained eyes and was ready to throw in the towel after a couple of series. (more…)

Main Offensive Problem? Penalties

Friday, December 5th, 2014
Yellow hankies are holding the Bucs back, says Bucs WR Vincent Jackson.

Yellow hankies are holding the Bucs back, says Vincent Jackson.

The Bucs offense is miserable. Joe doesn’t think that statement will shock any Bucs fan. In fact, most Bucs fans might just be trying to forget the Bucs offense.

Whether it is turnover-prone Josh McCown or slumping Doug Martin or the troubles of the offensive line, there are a myriad of reasons. But the receivers are not why the offense is lame. (more…)

More Plays For Danny Lansanah

Friday, December 5th, 2014
danny lansanah

Bucs coaches are flipping over the play of linebacker Danny Lansanah.

There are so many things to gripe about this year’s Bucs, one would have to be able to count far higher than 12 to list everything that’s gone wrong. It is enough to start drinking. But let’s save that for tonight.

One bright spot is Danny Lansanah. He has come a long way, from a bubble player who came from the UFL, to starting at linebacker. (more…)

Stupid Or Dumb?

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014

dumb

It seems Bucs fans have reached their boiling point after Tampa Bay did its best on offense to lose a very winnable game against the Bengals.

The defense played just fine. The offense, well, it was like watching a Three Stooges flick at 2 a.m. after about eight beers. (more…)

“This Is A Candy Store Operation”

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Tampa Bay fans — the few still engaged that have not gone apathetic like most — came away from the near-win against Cincinnati, a division leader, with various degrees of outrage.

First, why can’t anyone on the Bucs count to 12?

Isn’t there some coach’s grandson who has nothing better to do than whine about when he will go to Dairy Queen the Bucs could hire to count to 12? (more…)

Lovie Is Learning

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014

????????

From the time Joe played for a former NFL player who counted among his mentors Tom Landry, John Madden, Gene Stallings and Lou Holtz, Joe has always believed a good football coach adapts to his talent, to the changes in the game and is open-minded.

It’s great to hold firm to core beliefs, but football is cyclical. Good football coaches learn something new almost every week. The game is always changing. (more…)

The defense is playing well. They held the AFC North division leader to two scores today, and that was without stud linebacker Lavonte David.

One bright spot has been the play of Danny Lansanah. Playing in David’s spot, Lansanah racked up 14 tackles today, to lead both teams. He also had three tackles for loss. (more…)

RGIII And The Bucs

He likely could be had for a second-round pick says a former Redskins executive

He likely could be had for a second-round pick, says a former Redskins executive.

Yes, super-talented, 24-year old quarterback Robert Griffin, III, has been benched and many believe his days in Washington are finished.

The Buccaneers, to be kind, could use a new starting QB. (more…)

Football On A Playground

One bright spot in this miserable season is the glow of rookie wide receiver Mike Evans. It is hard not to group Evans in with the top tier of receivers in the league.

Sunday, in the loss to the Bears, the way Evans described it, he and quarterback Josh McCown were playing backyard football on his touchdown catch, the lone TD for the Bucs. (more…)

Splat!

Tuesday, November 25th, 2014

lovie 1029

In Joe’s time in the Windy City this weekend, there was sober, thoughtful, local analysis that the Bears would have been better off with Josh McCown as their starting quarterback than bratty Jay Cutler.

Adam Schein believes those folks were proven wrong Sunday.

In a scathing handful of words, Schein, NFL.com columnist and host of “Schein on Sports” heard exclusively on SiriusXM Radio, typed how bad the Bucs have sunk this season. (more…)

Slip, Slip, Slipped Away

Bucs CB Alterran Verner discussed an opportunity lost yesterday in Chicago.

Alterraun Verner discussed an opportunity lost yesterday in Chicago.

Yesterday, when Tampa Bay had bratty Jay Cutler and the Bears scoreless at halftime, it sure seemed like the day belonged to the Bucs, even in the rain and the slop of Soldier Field.

Alas, it was not. Josh McCown turned into Josh McCown, the turnover-happy signal-caller, and the Bears rallied for a 21-13 win. (more…)

“I Felt Like It Was Our Day”

Monday, November 24th, 2014
Bucs DT Akeem Spence thought the way the Bucs played in the first half at Chicago, the team was due for a win.

DT Akeem Spence thought the way the Bucs played Chicago in the first half the team was due for a win.

There are a lot of problems with the Bucs. A team isn’t 2-9 playing in a crap division without some significant issues. Joe believes defense is not one of them.

Oh, sure, the defense was pitiful earlier in the year. Just look how the defense got seal-clubbed at Atlanta and against Baltimore. Shameful, in fact. (more…)
