Jameis Is “Developing”

Bucs OC Dirk Koetter heaped praise on America's Quarterback.

Bucs OC Dirk Koetter heaped praise on America’s Quarterback.

Joe thought it was curious after Monday night’s win against the Bungles when America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, deflected praise for his game, suggesting Cincinnati plays a defense very similar to Minnesota, and because he was getting the same reads defensively, it made his job that much easier.

So today, when Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter had his weekly press conference, Joe asked whether playing a similar defense was the reason for Jameis’ success, or is Jameis just developing that quickly? (more…)

Scouring preseason tape from across the NFL.

Yes, the Bucs picked up a veteran offensive tackle yesterday when AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht signed free agent Gosder Cherilus.

Joe suspects that won’t be the last newcomer to the offensive line corps between now and when the Bucs host the Titans to kick off the season. (more…)

Jacquies Smith and Bucs defensive ends didn’t pressure Teddy Bridgewater but did good things, explains a former Buccaneer.

Possible WR Shake Up Is Not Bad News

Thursday, August 13th, 2015
"America's Quarterback" will not see his career implode if he does not have WR Louis Murphy as a slot man.

“America’s Quarterback” will not see his career implode if he does not have Louis Murphy as a slot man.

It pays to talk to folks and actually watch training camp practices, even though, like players, scribes like Joe are starting to get worn out.

Now through at least the next three weeks, you will see many prognostications about who will be where on depth charts, even though a depth chart before the first preseason game is about as useful as a snowblower in the Florida Keys. (more…)

NFL Network's Mike Mayock defended "America's Quarterback" yesterday.

NFL Network’s Mike Mayock defended “America’s Quarterback” yesterday.

There isn’t a guy around talking football that Joe enjoys listening to more than Mike Mayock. Doesn’t mean Joe agrees with him all the time, but Joe could just sit for hours and listen to the guy.

As Chucky would say, “Love him, man!” (more…)

Monday, August 10th, 2015

Jason Licht: Ali Marpet “Is Making Gerald Better”

Saturday, August 8th, 2015

Marpet2Joe’s written quite a bit over the past two practices about rookie Division-III right guard Ali Marpet. The Buccaneers’ second-round pick has looked capable — sometimes more than capable — running with the first team in full pads.

On WDAE-AM 620 this afternoon, Bucs general manager Jason Licht skyrocketed hopes even more when it comes to Marpet. (more…)

Bucs coach Lovie Smith invoked MMA fighter Ronda Rousey when talking about “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston yesterday.

Joe likes creative analogies but must confess this one left Joe scratching his head.
