Bucs Need To Get Special

November 1st, 2013

Greg Schiano fancies himself as a punt block guru. The Bucs led the NFL in that category by a mile last season. But this year, the Bucs have zero blocked punts.

That likely has to change on Sunday for the Bucs to pull off a massive upset in Seattle, so says former Ravens Super Bowl winning coach Brian Billick, currently a FOX analyst. Billick spoke yesterday on Tampa Bay sports radio giant WDAE-AM 620 and said the Bucs’ best chance to win is not to take big chances offensively but to force turnovers and make big plays special teams and defense.

Joe almost disagrees in the sense that the Bucs still have to produce offensively more than they have been. But it would be nice to see the Bucs have a breakthrough game on special teams. Eric Page has the talent to bounce back from his fumbled punt last week, and hopefully the New Schiano Order can dial up one of those magical blocks it had last season.

    This game has ALL of the ingredients for an upset…..and Im feeling it guys…..we just may pull a rabbit out of the hat with this one!

  2. ShutTheBucUp Says:

    I’m not very hopeful. In fact, I think the Bucs will need a miracle to win this game. Anything else would likely result in a blowout. Seattle plays ridiculously good at home.

  3. zam Says:

    it’s kinda funny when you have to count on a blocked punt as the key to winning a game. what a crap team this has become.

  4. Chef Paul Says:

    I’m kind of a superstitious guy. I bet on them to win the division before the season started, knowing its bad luck. So I had to kill the curse. Well last night I did some research, then made a voodoo doll of Schiano. Then filled it with positive needles. So if the bucs win this sunday, you can thank me personally. If Schiano dies by a freak accident, I did something wrong

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Hell…Joe…I’d settle for several opportunities to block punts…..we need some stops to do that!!!

  6. Adam L. Says:

    We have been reduced to looking for “a breakthrough game on special teams.”

    Seriously, Joe? that’s what we have to look forward to?

  7. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ MadMax

    Im with you. I think the seahawks have already checked this as a win and as a result wont play up to the best of there abilities. if they try to just breeze through this game we might be able to steal one. I think the key to us winning is matching the intensity that the rams had when they played them. they out bullied the bully and had a real shot at winning because of it.

  8. DWC2 Says:

    The Buc’s usually play well in games they should lose and play Bad in games they should win.. Got my fingers crossed for a win.

  9. SteveK Says:

    If Michael Bennett outsacks the Bucs on Sunday, Dom and Schiano will hear about it.

    Letting the guy with the most sacks in a season, since Simeon Rice, go is foolish.

    If Bennett outsacks the competition, then the “Rock Star” shall be held accountable.

    0-8 is unacceptable.

  10. Biff Barker Says:

    I agree with Billick. We control and protect the ball, steal momentum and neutralize the 12 th man with turnovers.
    Simple recipe that makes a good soup.
    But I’m pessimistic. Wilson doesn’t have to risk picks and put the ball up much, since its doubtful we’ll be scoring at all. Second, Steve White called it. All the BS blitzes and stunts will leave plenty of running lanes for a very elusive QB.
    Frankly, I’d run blitz to take out Lynch and play the 4 down lineman with straight lanes to the QB.
    Nothing else has worked. We need to drasticly mix things up. If we come in with the same shyte scheme, we’ll lose by 30 points.

  11. Just A Juggalo Says:

    The Little General was going to compete in the Special Olympics but he had too many assistants to fit on that short bus.

    They’re looking for one of those special Clowney (JCP) cars. You know the one that seats 34 clowns.

    Officials are concerned that when the winners are given their medals, Greg might attack their knees.

  12. LaughingStock II Says:

    Maybe the special moment will come at the kneel down. Schiano is the guru of creating fumbles at those plays too. Maybe just maybe…

  13. bucsfan13 Says:

    @joe
    Far be it for joe to write about the real reason revis has not been playing man. I know joe listens to the player’s shows at night. It took a national guy to write about the real reason revis hasn’t played more man. So schiano isn’t some idiot who doesn’t know how to use the best cover corner in the game.

    @Bucsfan13 – It was Joe who wrote this story last night. Where do you think the mainstream media gets this stuff from. –Joe

  14. bucsfan13 Says:

    @laughingstock

    If that kneel down play was to work just once. He would be called a freaking genius for months. I would crap myself because it’s a one in a million shot but if it did everyone would have to eat crow.

    @MadMax

    I don’t know about pulling a rabbit out of they’re hat. But like the Bucs coaching staff, you need to pull your head out of your ass if you think they’re going to win this game. As a matter of fact, I think they’re going to get destroyed in this game. I see the bean pole Glennon throwing multiple interceptions against the ” Legion of Boom “.

    @Andew1

    The reason the Rams bullied the Seahawks is because they have a GOOD defensive line, as oppose of the joke of a defensive line we have here. I find it funny how so many of you think that our d-line is good. For the most part they are putrid. That includes Geraldine McCoy, yes that’s right I said it! He does not impress me at all, never has. I don’t give a damn that he was a “pro bowler “, that means NOTHING to me. His play, his stats, and his inability to stay healthy is all I need to know. Not to mention that I think he is SOFT. I much rather have Ndamukong Suh .

  16. Andrew 1 Says:

    @pewterpirate99

    whether you want to believe this or not we have talent on the D line. yes they have not played well up to this point but that doesn’t mean that they are not talented. just because we hevent seen them play well lately doenst mean that they are not capable of it, and I think most of that has to do with coaching because its there job to get the most out of these players and they havent. so your saying that McCoy did not play well last year and Clayborn did not play well his rookie season? I dont buy that. they have shown that they are capable of playing well so these coaches need to do everything they can to bring that out of them. if you want to believe that they are not talented, then thats your opinion, in my opinion they are.

  17. pewterpirate99 Says:

    @Andrew1

    We’ll just agree to disagree. No McCoy did not play good enough last year for my taste, neither did Clayborn. I hold the defense on this team to an EXTREMELY high standard. Forgive me for being spoiled by the championship caliber defenses this franchise has had. That’s the standard I hold them to and I will not settle for average/good, I want great. You’re right on the coaching aspect of it though and I will agree with that, this ENTIRE coaching staff is a joke. Let’s look at the d-line for a minute. DeQuan Bowers SUCKS ( nice job Dominik ), Teo-Niho whatever his name is SUCKS, Anthony Spence…..BLAH, Adrian Clayborn is OK, and Geraldine McCoy is SOFT and does not have a lot of stamina. I’ve seen him give up on tackles if the guy is out of his reach instead of hustling after him down field. Warren “QB Killa” Sapp NEVER gave up on a tackle and would wreak havoc all over the field, not just get pressure up the middle. And as far as the depth on the d-line……CHILD PLEASE!

  18. MadMax Says:

    Hey pewter, dont think for one moment that Im taking it easy on this coaching staff and players. If you’re not a regular here, then you havent seen my past rants…..especially against the 3 stooges, schiano/sheridan/sullivan and their circus leader Dom.

    Its just a feeling I have that this will probably be the only game we win this year…..so get your panties out of a wad, or throw on a few more pair, I dont care!
