The Elusive First Win

November 1st, 2013

bucs_schedule

It is now November. Time to think of turkey, liquor, buying Christmas lights (gggrrr) and like a squirrel gathering nuts in the fall, soaking in as much football as humanly possible to pass us through the sports winter, when northeast types try to ram the non-basketball association down our throats until July.

Dear, God. Joe’s stomach turns just at the thought (maybe that’s why Joe has become a very casual fan of NASCAR in recent years because that is as far away from the non-basketball association and golf as one can get).

This season, November is also a month in which Bucs fans begin sweating whether the Pewter Pirates can win a game, and avoid a Detroit Lions 0-16 season.

Will Brinson of CBS Sports is beginning to wonder if the Bucs matching that mark is a done deal, so he Twittered this week.

@WillBrinson: The Buccaneers are going to win a game this year. Right?

Then, Brinson attached a copy of the remaining Bucs schedule, which Joe has included in the upper-right hand corner of this post.

Let’s read it from you, Bucs loyalists. Which team will be the first to succumb to Bucs commander Greg Schiano and his Buccaneer Men this season?

The Dolphins possibly which I hope because I will be at that game. But I like the Bucs chances in December better. They could beat the Bills or Rams. And if the Saints sit their starters on 12/29 in preparation for the playoffs, that could be a win!

  2. Warrenfb12 Says:

    0-16.

  3. Eric Says:

Nope, 0-16 is a done deal.

Just hope the Jags can get lucky on one.

  4. Paul Says:

Saints will have clinched, same situation as last year.

  5. Capt. Tim Says:

I think the jags are so bad, they’ll screw up and win one!

Don’t see any wins on there.

Can’t imagine the post on here, when we are around 0-14.
And Schiano won’t be having fun on the sidelines

  6. terraj35 Says:

Bills in tampa will be a win. @st louis is another good shot. Im gonna say we end up with the second, maybe third pick in the draft.

  7. chef paul Says:

    Seahawks

  8. Warrenfb12 Says:

The Jags are better than we are.

At least they were competitive against the Broncos, and play decent defense.

Our team just got spanked at home against a .500 team.

lolz@us winning more games than them.

We are going to get murdered this weekend, then again on MNF by the dolphins. Then the 0-16 stink will start setting in. Another winless season for the bucs.

  9. Biff Barker Says:

Without Martin, Nicks, Williams and Joseph’s poor condition, I can only see the Dolphins or maybe the Bills.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’d like to think Dolphins….but it will be Atlanta….here are the possible wins
    Dolphins, Falcons, Bills, Rams, Saints

  11. Chef Paul Says:

Hypothetically, what if there is two 0-16 teams. What is the tie breaker for the first pick? Points scored?

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Chef Paul

I think it is strength of schedule and that changes every week.

  13. Patrick in VA Says:

I don’t see a single winable game on that schedule. Not that they’re great teams but I don’t see any teams that are in a worse tailspin than we are. We’ll be able to outlose every one of those teams despite whatever efforts they might make to give us one

  14. Kevin S Says:

We’ll screw up going 0-16 and beat the Bills and Rams. 2-14, 2nd pick in 2014.

  15. MTM Says:

Bills, Rams & Saints when they clinch the playoffs. So this is what Bucs fans have to look forward too. Looking ahead for the 1st possible win and looking ahead to the draft. Pathetic ownership.

  16. Harry Says:

Chef Paul, we think a lot alike. I just checked the Jags schedule and it is not any better. Twice vs Ten & Hou, then Ari, @Clev, Buff, @Indy. Which means we may have a “perfect” record and still not win the prize of a #1 pick. What is the tie breaker Joe?

And, not only would we be the first team to go winless TWICE, but we could also have the distinction of being one of two teams (us and Jags) to go winless in the same season. Freaking great…. How embarrassing.

  17. Chef Paul Says:

Well then, being in the AFC, they have to have the easier schedule. So even if we go 0-16 we could get the 2nd pick. If that’s the case, lets just win a few and get the second pick anyways.

Wouldn’t that be nice to win a few?

  18. Harry Says:

@Tampabaybucfan. I do think that is the tie breaker. So if we have the harder schedule we win the Teddy prize?

  19. Chris Says:

Just thinking but why did the bucs have to start 4-2 in 2011? Coulda had luck.

  20. bucfanjeff Says:

Dolphins or Falcons will crack the win column.

  21. RED MAN Says:

    @ Chef Paul

Don’t forget about the Vikings who have only won 1 game. If we end up winning 2-3 meaningless games, we could end up with the 3rd pick and miss out on both Bridgewater & Mariota. So no, it would not be nice to win a few at this point.

  22. Harry Says:

@RED MAN, I agree with you. If we have to suffer through this crappy a$$ year, I can live with the embarrassment of 0-16 to possibly get Teddy. All I want for Christmas is Payton Manning type QB for the next 10 to 15 years. Then, they will be praising the Bucs for being so bad, lol

  23. ShutTheBucUp Says:

I hope we draft Manziel! At least he’d make things interesting. This team is straight up BORING to watch right now. Not to mention the losses piling up.

Joe, out of curiousity, why such hatred for the NBA?

  24. Espo Says:

Joe, you’d rather watch cars make left turns for two hours than basketball?

  25. Mike M Says:

Saints will rest some players. That and the Bills or Rams are the possibilities. I hate to see them lose, but the end of the Schiano regime and a top QB will have to compensate for an otherwise miserable 2013 season.

  26. Espo Says:

Shut the Buc Up, seriously, I think it’s an age thing. The NBA of short shorts was a violent game but it hasn’t changed that much. No more than our beloved NFL has gone soft.

  27. givemeball Says:

    Miami!

“Shut the Buc Up, seriously, I think it’s an age thing. The NBA of short shorts was a violent game but it hasn’t changed that much. No more than our beloved NFL has gone soft.”

I can see that point. But like you said, whats the difference between the NBA and the Non Football League at this point? Neither game is the same as it was 30 years ago. For general sports violence I usually look to see if theres a rugby match on.

  29. LaughingStock II Says:

    Nice try Joe.

We are looking at the New and Improved Laughing Stock of the NFL.

    0-16 for 2013.

  30. Kalind Says:

Phins, Bills, or Rams. That’s assuming EJ Manuel isn’t back by the bills game. If he is we def lose that one.

  31. Eric Says:

0-16 and Joe presents the keys to the City to mark Dominik for all his valuable contributions.

The thing is with all this 0-16 talk if they do win one the Glazer boys will think its a turnaround again and bring this guy back.

Or, keep Dom so we can’t get a good coach cause nobody good wants to pin their future to him.

    Scary times.

  32. Capt. Tim Says:

Eric- that’d be really funny, except it’s probably true.

Harry and Chef Paul- bless you guys for your optimism.
It’s a true Buc fan, who can see us beating the Seahawks.

Red man and Harry- yup , the solution to our problems is a franchise QB. Then, you always have a chance.

  33. Adam L. Says:

I don’t see a win. The best chance is Buffalo. But I can see the Bills playing conservative, running the ball and winning a low-scoring game because the Bucs have no Offense.

    0-16 looks very, very real.

  34. Buc1987 Says:

Dolphins, Falcons and maybe Buffalo are winnable games, but I’m not counting on it.

  35. Buc1987 Says:

The NBA sucks ass nowadays. It’s not the same game I grew up on and I’m from Boston. I watched A LOT of Celtics games growing up as a kid and it used to be my favorite sport to watch. Back then a player was only allowed to take 2 steps. Nowadays it’s 3-4 steps when driving to the basket. Which has caused to me to stop watching it altogether for the last 10 years.

  36. Danny Says:

If we’re 0-15, the Saints won’t want to be the only team to lose to us so even if they have their playoff spot secured, Brees and company will still play as usual unless the game gets out of hand.

  37. BirdDoggers Says:

Dolphins, Bills or Rams. Those are the obvious ones to me. Which means if they win a game, it will probably be one of the other games. 0-16 is possible, but I think the team will eventually pull out a win this year.

  38. Architek Says:

    One win against St. Louis!

I hear you, but you could say the same thing about the NFL.

  40. Espo Says:

I guess it’s different for me since I have 1 team and always have. I grew up watching the Magic, going to games, similar to my Old Sombrero upbringing.

  41. Cmurda Says:

    Bills

  42. Ricky Bobby Says:

The Jags just lost Blackmon indefinitely.. FUUUUUUU

Jags picking up a win somewhere in there just got a lot harder.
