“Two Sacks In Their Last 79 Pass Plays”

October 19th, 2013

With two sacks in his last 10 games, Adrian Clayborn is among the Bucs pass rushers that must step up.

Former Bucs scout, Jets linebackers coach and front office man Pat Kirwan, now a top analyst for CBS and a host of SiriusXM NFL Radio, doesn’t like the slide of the Bucs’ pass rush. “Two sacks in their last 79 pass plays,” Kirwan notes in the video below, and he says the Bucs will be “lucky” to get one on Sunday in Atlanta.

Kirwan joins prickly Pete Prisco in breaking down Sunday’s game and predicting a Falcons victory. There’s also an interesting Mike Glennon/Peyton Manning comparison unveiled.

But we started out good with sacks….WTH happened? Uhg!!

At first I didnt even want to watch the game tomorrow, but now Im going to, just to see how stupid the Coaching and play calling gets.

As I said in the other posts, Gonzales WILL be their man, and they WILL play on the expectations of Coach and sheridans weak kneed consistency to blitz blitz blitz. Knowing when to blitz and when to back off is really hurting us!!

Play the D like we did against the Saints, except “assign” a man or two to Gonzales, and we just might finally have our first win…..its not rocket science even though people get paid millions to do it….

  2. BamBamBuc Says:

Play Revis man up then play against Gonzales the way the Patriots did. Two men on the line against him and don’t let him get past 5 yards. Of course we won’t do that. Schiano is too stubborn to actually adjust to our opponent. Same scheme, same results.

  3. MadMax Says:

Exactly BamBam…..and some would say why not blitz so much since their O line isnt good….well there you go. Matty Ice is still good, cover his receivers 😉

  4. Bobby Says:

If you don’t get pressure on Ryan you will lose….plain and simple. You can’t cover receivers for long and if good QB’s have time to throw they will beat you even with secondary receivers.

  5. Bobby Says:

Another thing, sacks don’t tell the whole story. Look at how many hurries we’ve had and how many QB hits we’ve had and we’ll be in the upper half of the league. We’ve made every QB we’ve played move off of their spot. Nick Foles was the only one who has had a decent QB rating against us and he’s got the same QB rating Manning has. Granted it’s 25% of the passes Manning has thrown but Foles has looked very good so far. Sacks are nice but constant pressure is effective also.

  6. MadMax Says:

    @Bobby

Im not saying “dont” put pressure on Ryan, of course we should (and will), just know when to do it and when to fake him into thinking it 😉

sheridan should know…5:20 am until 11 pm, game planning when to make those calls, right? Guess we’ll see. And I hope the pressure has tweaked his tune a little (well, a lot).

  7. scott hunter Says:

Ready for this season to be done……..i hope we get Bridgewater, he looked good. I just cant buy into shiano or glennon. Bridgewater and lovie……….wish we could get clowney

  8. King Diamond Says:

We need turnovers and sacks if we’re gonna have a prayer in hell tomorrow. I could probably use some of Freeman’s adderall or riddalin to watch it.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

I want them to get Mariota.

  10. BucoBruce Says:

    BUCS 42 Falcons 10

  11. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I want Glennon to be the next Peyton Manning.

Unlikely I know, but I’ll be @#@#$ed if I’m going to root for a worse season than it already is. I could give a flip about who is available in the draft. We ain’t there yet.

If people want the best thing for the team, they’ve want a complete turn around and for a 3rd round pick to become elite and make rookie of the year.

If you don’t know how to have hope, look at the players on this team. Follow their example. They have not given up hope. They still feel they can start winning. Learn from them.

And it’s selfish to wish the season was over. I HATE off seasons. If you can’t enjoy watching the Bucs, what other teams. But don’t ruin it for the rest of us.

  12. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    watch I mean

  13. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

Sacks are overrated…..we even had Foles in the grasp a couple of times….our pressure hasn’t been that bad and I expect you will see some good pressure tomorrow.

  14. BamBamBuc Says:

I cheer for the team to win each and every week. I cheer when we score, yell when we make a bonehead mistake. During the week, I’ll state my peace. If they deserve criticism, they’ll get it from me from final whistle to the next coin flip. If they don’t deserve it, I’m the first one to show how they played well. So far I haven’t seen anything from Glennon to warrant my praise, so he won’t get it until he shows he deserves it. I don’t praise his potential and he’s had no worthwhile results. There is no sign yet that he gives us a better chance to win than the QB we started the season with. I don’t approve of or condone moves that don’t improve our chances. Of course they don’t need my approval, so I will just continue to disagree with the direction the team is moving…

  15. MadMax Says:

BamBam, Im sorry you dont realize the storm that Glennon has been thrown into….while also failing to realize he’s a rookie. WTH!?!?

  16. BucsQcCity Says:

Tandy too thinks sacks are overrated..

  17. BamBamBuc Says:

So, a rookie thrown into a storm gives the team a better chance to win than an inconsistent veteran in rough waters. Fact is, the vet has had success both statistically and in the win column. Truth is the scouting reports on the rookie show he’s basically a less mobile version of our ousted vet, with maybe a bit more book smarts, questionable if he has more football smarts. Again, I don’t believe the team is making the right choices to win now, and it shows in our record.

  18. Bobby Says:

@BamBam…how can you not see the talent in Glennon?? He was spreading the ball around to ALL the open receivers. He was throwing people open. Even the pick was Underwood’s fault and we were driving. The offensive line kept us from putting more points on the board with all the penalties. It sure wasn’t Glennon’s fault. For a rookie in his second game I was VERY impressed. A couple of the throws he made actually had me saying “Wow!” They were absolute rockets that got to the receiver in a hurry and were right on the numbers.

  19. King Diamond Says:

@ bobby it takes @ least a couple of years to see if a QB is gonna make it. The jury is still out although he has a good oportunity tomorrow lets hope he takes advantage.

  20. Bobby Says:

@King Diamond…agreed but then don’t you think people ought to be over Freeman?? Jury returned a verdict after 4 years…..

“I cheer for the team to win each and every week.”

I don’t think I’ve ever doubted your fandom, BamBam. Not at all.

    Bobby Says
“…how can you not see the talent in Glennon??”

Bobby, any player, any at all, should not just be given props. They have to earn it. People have a right to be skeptical. It doesn’t mean they are against him being good. It means the player has to earn it.

This same formula has resulted in players succeeding. Usually if a starting role is handed to someone and they haven’t earned it, they don’t have enough drive to succeed beyond a certain point. There are some exceptions, but either way the respect of the fans has to be earned.

Yes, Glennon has shown some level of talent. But has he won yet? I understand that it shouldn’t all be on him. But the nature of fans is to hold the QB accountable. It’s been that way since the NFL began. It isn’t going to change. You may as well stop the world from turning.

This is the truth about Mike Glennon:
He was handed the job. He didn’t earn it. He started rough in game one. He improved in game two, but still has a total of three picks in 2 games. Costly ones. He is decent with short to mid range passes. Has not shown much in the way of long passes.

He seems to keep a cool head thus far. But the simple fact is he hasn’t played enough games to show consistency. And until he does, there will be doubts.

  22. Bobby Says:

Until the QB gets traded and then it’s all the fault of coaching…..

  23. chickster Says:

Bnozai is right on with that and the defence is on the field way to much in th second half and there will be no sacks fro the front 4 its just sad to let bennet go wow what direction do we go now we are last years kc team

  24. King Diamond Says:

Glennon can’t afford any turnovers because we don’t now how to make 2nd half adjustments. It’s really difficult to win in the nfl that way. Maybe Shiano can finally realize this is not Rutgers …very depressing

  25. King Diamond Says:

Glennon needs a coaching staff to help him develop to a fair shot. I don’t trust this current staff to do anything except f@$& up. It’s just brutal.

  26. Illuminati Says:

    @ MadMax

sheridan should know…5:20 am until 11 pm

Maybe that’s the problem. Sheridan’s clearly not getting enough sleep.

  27. oviedobucsfan Says:

I thought Greg “Mr. player evaluator” Schiano had a guy named Da’Quan Bowers who he thought could step in and take right over for Michael Bennett. That has not been the case. I am impressed with Claiborne and Mccoy but they cannot do it alone. Also, why does Gibson get down in a four point stance? Your’e playing DE, explosion on the snap is critical to beating your man. I have never seen a DE play in a four point stance. WTH? I don’t like Clowney as a pick, UCF handled him pretty well in the game they played two weeks ago final score 28 -25. That was unranked UCF that beat the eight ranked team Louisville “Bridgewater” Cardinals. I would like to see the BUCS fix their O-line or dare I say it…..a TIGHT END. Pick up Blake Bortles in a later round for our QB situation.

  28. Que589 Says:

Clayborn is overrated. It’s becoming comical to see the Bucs fans and media avoid being real about his game. He’s not a true Right DE.

  29. buccanAy Says:

The non-signing of Bennet should be the nail in the coffin for Dominik, as a GM. The “projection” of Bowers to be so much better than Bennet is a HUGE FAIL, as has been Dominik’s tenure a the GM of this team, IMO. Yes, it obvious we have inept coaching, but we also have an inept GM, who, BTW is responsible for hiring a HC.

  30. MadMax Says:

@BamBam….huh? Scouting reports and stats? are you even watching the friggin games? Dynamics man……COME ON NOW!?!?!?!

  31. MadMax Says:

@Bonzai, sorry my friend but I disagree with you about Glennon not “earning” it. Look, I know you loved Freeman, but if the confidence (in what our derelict coaching staff could espouse) ever had a moment of realizing dead weight, he was it!!!

  32. MadMax Says:

@Illuminati, thats why he hates that he would benefit from the “chirps” lol…..thats the problem with people who are geniuses…..they fail to have common sense (the tunnel vision prevents them from seeing the big picture)!!!!!

And in jobs so important like this one, they fail to see where they should take the responsibility from their mistakes!! But thats ok, it came down to release Gosh….more will SURE be to come!!!

    chirp chirp chirp

  33. C. Alak Says:

A lot of these reports & so called “analysis” are a joke! 1st off when it comes to the Bucs D you have to remember that our offense just started scoring last wknd against the Beagles! I think our D has been just fine & once again isn’t the reason for our record. Another thing is & let be the 1st to say it, I think the Bucs win the next 3 games & the last of that 3rd game in Seattle will be a STATEMENT game that a lot of these ppl who are off the bandwagon come rite back on. I say the Bucs dominate ATL in ATL & starts the charge towards turning things around. This garbage about Revis not playing a lot of man doesn’t even make sense! We blitz so much that it forces us into man! We running zone blitz out there??? Ppl need to stop being sheep & have your own mindset. There are things called “match up zone” that based on the coverage you do one or the other. So Revis is playing fine, we get better on offense you will see the D numbers improve as well! #BucsNation #NewSchianoOrder

  34. MadMax Says:

We’ll see @C…..and I would love nothing more than to beat the seahawks…if we only win one game this year, thats the one I want!!!!!
