Schiano Failing The “Work In Progress”

October 15th, 2013

Greg Schiano is on record saying halftime is more about urination, defecation and snack time than intense coaching and communicating Xs and Os.

The Bucs have been outscored 48-13 in the second half this season, so the success/failure of halftime adjustments has come under scrutiny. The head coach clarified his adjustments philosophy last night on his radio show on WDAE-AM 620.

“You only have 12 minutes in there, the guys get a chance to use the men’s room and the coaches get a chance to go over the stuff, and we’re back in the locker room with the guys going over adjustments and anything we’re going to do moving forward. And then, you know, two-minute warning and you gotta get goin’ and get out there. So it’s not a heck of a lot of time. That’s why I think in-game adjustments are so important throughout,” Schiano said. “You know you have the pictures on the sideline. And what more do you need? Headsets, the coaches, the players, and you’re just going through pictures constantly and going through the game plan constantly. So it’s a work in progress. Halftime gives you just a little more serene atmosphere to do it in.”

No matter how you slice it up, the Bucs are outcoached regularly. Getting outscored 48-13 in the second half all season is not a coincidence.

Joe would suggest hiring an experienced advisor to assess what’s happening with a bird’s-eye view, but the Bucs already have one on the payroll in Butch Davis.

Something tells me Butch Davis is just around to collect a check. The ol’ double dip between OBP & UNC.

When this guy finally gets canned, (weather it be today or the end of the season or anywhere in between) it will be a glorious day in Buccaneer history.

Joe, the Bucs are missing Jimmy Raye in addition to PJ Fleck.

    @ Chef Paul

It sure seems that way, but recent history has shown us ownership will only hire ANOTHER incompetent boob. At least next time, they’ll hire someone that’s even remotely likeable. The stuff you hear about with this guy makes you believe this is nothing more than a movie about some tyrannical high school coach, only difference being those kind of movies include a coach that can win.

Has Jimmy Raye EVER coached on a team with a winning record? Ever?

The 48 isn’t too bad for the defense considering the weak offense giving up the ball often and field position….but the 13 for an offense averages less than a field goal in the second half of 5 games is horrible.
Focusing on the offensive….obviously teams have made their asjusments against us and they are working. So, we need to antipate their adjustments and change our offense accordingly.
I would like for someone to ask Sully and not let him get away with his default answer “Well, its a number of things and we’re working on it”…..what an impotent, lame, milk-toast excuse.

Geez… every time he opens his mouth, he sinks into a deeper swamp of Dumb. I didn’t think anyone could possibly be worse that Raheem when it came to just plain-ol’ gettin’ mentally challengy.

Jimmy Raye is on medical leave. Has been all season.

  9. Chef Paul Says:

haha jb. He’s like Archy Bunker. A grumpy, stubborn old miser stuck in his old fashioned, out dated, predictable ways. And every one else is just plain wrong and stupid. He says his philosophy is proven and he’s right. It’s been proven since the 60′s. Well not so much anymore but it worked 50 years ago, so it has to work now right?

Well Greg, I fell for your schtick but when you have no wins, the schtick gets stale.

Didn’t know that. Don’t think much of him as a coach, but I sure hope he’s okay and wish he and his family all the Best.

If you watch the games it’s not half time adjustments beating us, it’s lack of execution from our players. Blame it on getting outcoached if it makes you feel better but we are just getting outplayed. If we executed the second half like we do in the first half we’d be fine. Teams don’t change their game plan on us, they just play for 60 minutes and we don’t. Lindell misses a field goal..David has a stupid penalty, Glennon throws a pick…pretty simple really.

I want to go on record as saying Butch Davis as an advisor has been a complete and total failure. His main job in my estimation was to mentor Schiano in how to operate differently in moving from the college to the Pro ranks. Great job Butch great job. Schiano has no clue why he can’t coach pro players like he used to berate his college players. Thats all on Butch Davis.

Let me just say this first, I absolutely hate the offense that Sullivan brought to this team. But it’s pretty hard to be successful at any offense when the “overpaid” and “over-rated” offensive line just plain sucks. It’s like every single one of our offensive linemen regressed.

Lame coaches such as Schiano do thing different than the rest of the league, that’s why he is the only HC in the NFL and any respected college program to try to cause a fumble on a kneel down…

Can’t wait to this guy gets fire…

Have you been living under a rock? This play has worked in the past for NFL teams before they somehow decided that once a team had the lead it was game over. It’s low % but as long as there’s a chance why give up? If there’s time on the clock play till the buzzer.
