Pewter Report: Fire Greg Schiano Now

October 14th, 2013

greg schiano 1014a

In a report published earlier this morning, the chieftain of PewterReport.com takes a bold stand. After watching the Bucs sink to 0-5 to start the 2013 season, Scott Reynolds has seen enough.

The Bucs need to part ways with Greg Schiano immediately, writes Reynolds.

It’s time for the Buccaneers to fire Schiano. It’s time for the Glazers to step in right now, this week, and relieve him of his duties in a message that would tell the players, the remaining coaches and the fans, who pay good money to attend the games, as well as those who watch the team in frustration each week on television that losing 10 out of the last 11 games is unacceptable, and that they won’t stand for it.

Isn’t that what they essentially told the fans when they fired Raheem Morris before hiring Schiano? Didn’t the Glazers say that the environment at One Buccaneer Place had gotten “stale” following the 2008 season under Jon Gruden? Those back-to-back seasons of 9-7 records that Gruden produced probably sound really good to Buccaneers fans right now.

MRSA isn’t the only thing that has afflicted the Buccaneers this season. Losing has also infected One Buccaneer Place, unfortunately.

Reynolds also types that the Bucs not only have a locker room with a staph infection, but also a [coaching] staff infection.

Joe will document many, many reasons Team Glazer could use to dismiss Schiano in his weekly “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” column that Joe is about half-finished typing. Of course, the common denominator is losses

But here is why Joe isn’t in a rush to see Schiano walk away: If you are not going to make the playoffs, then lose big and get a really good draft pick in order to land, say, a Teddy Bridgewater or Jadeveon Clowney.

Yeah, the losing hurts. But that pain will pay off for years to come with giddy drunkenness if the Bucs could land a Hall of Fame-type player to lift the Bucs to postseason play for, say, a decade.

Quick someone call Al and Jesse, Raheem was fired for it but not Schiano, Oh the rallies we could have for this racial injustice.

  2. Luther Says:

What a dumb comment ^^^^ Stay on topic

  3. Patrick in VA Says:

@Joe- I second that on all points aside from golfing on to schiano. If we bring in a new coach halfway through the season we’ve got a pretty safe lock on a solid draft pick. During schiano would be telling fans and players exactly what the piece said and I honestly need to see that from the organization. I want to see that we’re bit winning bit we’ve got our sights set in winning and we’re going to do what we’ve got to do to get there.

  4. Patrick Says:

I really want Manziel. Did you see the A&M/Ole Miss game on Saturday joe? Johnny Football pulled off his magic once again. I wish we could draft him.

  5. Couch Fan Says:

I dont think people realize the effect that firing Schiano will have. If Schiano goes, it’s almost a certainty that Dom goes to. That means we are in rebuild mode all over again.

Who’s to say that the new GM/HC will want most of these guys on there roster? There’s a very small possibility that a new coach could mean instant success like a Gruden. But c’mon do you really believe us Buc fans could really get that lucky again?

If/when Schiano gets fired…. I think were looking at at least 2 or 3 more years of mediocrity. Plus we have to deal with another 11 losses before we even get to that point. Sometimes it just fking sucks to be a Bucs fan.

  6. DallasBuc Says:

Joe- good to see you and Reynolds over at the “colorful” Pewter Report playing nice!
Agree that we will likely see the owners wait until the end but I really don’t think we play better if Schiano is replaced. Either way we likely get a great shot at a franchise QB and/or Clowney. May as well soothe the fanbase by cutting coach loose and start the GM/HC interview process early.

  7. Meh Says:

I’m offended by any suggestion we should try to lose. Joe, you’re just in favor of giving the middle finger to ticket holders? Revolting. I’ll go a step further – its flat out stealing from ticket buyers.

I think this might be the most offensive thing I’ve ever seen come out of the Joes on here.

Nobody suggested we should try to lose. Everybody roots for the team when the whistle blows. But sometimes losing is good in the long run. –Joe

  8. NY Buc Says:

I agree with Joe on not firing Schiano immediately. If Schiano haters are correct then we’ll go 0-16 and be in a great draft spot next year. If guy like me who don’t think Shiano is a lost cause (yet) are right then giving the guy the rest of the season to turn the ship around builds momentum going forward if he wins or makes a concrete case to part ways with him in December if the team continues to lose. Either way I’m not sure what firing the guy ASAP really achieves for the Bucs other than creating even more chaos for a team that has had one negative headline after another this season.

  9. Jrock Says:

I’d rather get Schiano out of here sooner than later, and get the search for a new coach rolling asap.

Having someone internally move to the HC position for the interim isn’t going to produce any wins for us, so why not start the search now? We can’t afford to lose another offseason

  10. DallasBuc Says:

Meh- if by keeping the head coach = tanking then the problem is bigger than HC. You read that wrong

  11. Cdog Says:

Joe we have a terrible track record with #1 qb picks if I was Teddy I would pull a Bo Jacksdon

  12. Meh Says:

Keeping Schiano is the definition of tanking. If you want to keep Schiano, fine, but give me back my money. I’ve got tickets for 3 more games this season, and I want my money back if we aren’t even going to TRY to win.

  13. lightningbuc Says:

I agree with Meh. I hate when people bring up why it might be good to continue losing. That’s all the Bucs have done since the Super Bowl, is lose for the most part, and nothing good has come from it yet.

  14. lightningbuc Says:

I meant since the 2003 Super Bowl.

  15. Patrick in VA Says:

@meh- I say keeping there coach is a bigger insult to ticket holders., by keeping the coach they’re saying “this is what you get for your money, a team that can’t win against anyone.” At least a coaching change says that we may lose some during the transition but we’re trying something to find some wins

  16. Meh Says:

I totally agree Patrick. I’m fine if we bring in Wannstedt (or whomever) and lose all year, AS LONG AS WE TRY. Keeping Schiano is the same as tanking for a high pick. He’s proved he can’t win. Get him out of here.

  17. Patrick in VA Says:

I’ve adopted the Jags as a foster team. I’m gonna cheer them to at least one more win than we get.

  18. Meh Says:

“Nobody suggested we should try to lose. Everybody roots for the team when the whistle blows. But sometimes losing is good in the long run. ”

” If you are not going to make the playoffs, then lose big”

Joe, maybe you didn’t intend to suggest we try losing, but that’s exactly what you said.

  19. Eric Says:

I seriously doubt we have to worry about having a high draft choice no matter what they do.

We got that locked down. Were very likely going to be 1-15 or 0-16.

But were only gonna get that decade of competitiveness from the franchise QB if we pick the right guy.

Thus, we absolutely cannot rely on Dominik to make that decision or have any input on the new coach. He has totally blown franchise QB and coaching decisions already. Enough is enough with that guy.

  20. Patrick in VA Says:

Good call on dom’s part not giving up 2014 first rounder. They would have strung him up from the stadium if revis didn’t bring wins and we gave the jets a#1 or #2 pick

  21. Joe Says:

I’d rather get Schiano out of here sooner than later, and get the search for a new coach rolling asap.

Who says the Glazers aren’t going through coaching bios and cursory fact-gathering now? There are no rules you can’t start doing research until you fire your current coach.

Oh, and just what coach right now is going to interview? Is any coach from a playoff-bound team going to interview in October?

Scotch in the morning can be dangerous my friend.

  22. Patrick in VA Says:

I’m fine with placing an interim coach from the current staff in charge. See how they do when they’ve had the chains removed. In the meantime, put the full court press on Lovie and let him start making calls and assembling his staff early

  23. mixxx31 Says:

    @ImissAlstott&Lynch

You are without a doubt a grade A,1st rate, head of the class, POPCORN FART!!! Shut it Hermie.

    I 2nd all of this.

  25. holymoly Says:

As far as losing, the Bucs have been doing a fine job with that. Firing schiano would at least show season ticket holders that they want to win. I hate to even hear the word… rebuild, but something has to be done because this is pitiful.

  26. bucrightoff Says:

Dumping Schiano and Dominik does not necessarily mean rebuild. This team can be a playoff team next year with the same roster and a better coach. Glennon has the rest of the season to convince the fans he’s the guy going forward and hopefully he is. The offensive line needs some changes and the Bucs need more depth but otherwise this team is basically set.

  27. WalkdaPlank Says:

Not sure if we should keep Schiano till the end of the year. He has to know that this is probably the end of the line with the Bucs. And given how he handled the Freeman circus, how will he handle having to go down with his ship? This whole season has been nothing but the Bucs shooting themselves in the foot with dumb penalties, dumb coaching, and a media circus. Unless Schiano does a complete 180 and finishes 11-5, 10-6, or heck 9-7 no way he is still here, but with the way we are losing no way we win more than 2 games this season. “Sometimes you just gotta cut a man loose”.

  28. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

A high draft pick is compensation for losing but to deliberatly lose is disgraceful….even if you are in the last game of the season and losing will get you your dream pick…it is unthinkable to lose as a strategy….what sort of message does that send to players & fans….
Try to win untl the very end and let the chips fall where they may.
As far as replacing Schiano mid-season…we would likely have to go with an interim coach.

  29. Patrick in VA Says:

@mixxx31- agreed. Raheem was fired at the end of the season. If this were the end of the season there wouldn’t be a question. Its a different animal when its a mid season firing. I agree with a Ron & Ian caller, thinking the glazers are hoping the nflpa investigation is going to handle this for them

  30. Patrick in VA Says:

@Tampabaybuctfan- Grow up dude. This is a business and playing to position the team to succeed in the future just makes sense. Are you really going to feel better about the team if we go 2-14 instead of 0-16. Is that really something to hang your hat on. It kills me as much as the next guy to know we’re in this sort of place but this isn’t a little league game where what matters most is that we all go out and play our hardest. When you’re the bottom of the heap you position yourself to get the player that’s going to put you back at the top.

  31. WalkdaPlank Says:

If the investigation proves that Schiano leaked Freeman’s info, I don’t think he will be coaching anywhere next year, college or NFL. Who would want to hire a guy that does that to his own players? Now there’s no evidence it was Schiano, so we can’t draw conclusions. `

  32. Buc1987 Says:

Having an interim coach does not guarantee wins this season. Perhaps the Bucs could even turn out to be worse with the interim coach.

How can it be much worse? What I mean is losing by 20-30 pts a game worse.

So I would like to stay the course with Schiano until week 17.

Like Joe said above: “Who says the Glazers aren’t going through coaching bios and cursory fact-gathering now? There are no rules you can’t start doing research until you fire your current coach.”

  33. Patrick in VA Says:

@tampabaybuctfan – that was out of line. i didn’t mean to be disrespectful there and i apologize. it was uncalled for.

  34. frank palleschi Says:

Fire this coch this week its obvious the plyers re not plying for him and he hs been a laughing stock as far as coaches go in the nfl

  35. Buc1987 Says:

Patrick in VA …your looking at it through a fan’s business perspective, not a players perspective. I don’t think a new coach or GM can truly evaluate who they have that’s good on the team if the players tank on purpose. I also don’t see a pro football player actually doing it as well. Remember suck for Luck? Indy was still trying to win from what I could tell.

This season ticket holder would effing hate it, if the team would start tanking it on purpose.

  36. Big Rob Says:

I’m sick of fans dropping “Lovie Smith” for head coach. This is an offense driven league now. Lovie Smith was fired after a winning season because he couldn’t get the offense going ever in his entire 9 year career at Chicago. We need a proven offensive mind. Not Lovie Smith.

  37. givemeball Says:

Reyonlds is an Idiot!!!! let me make sure i got what is going on here.
WE have no fan support. I was at game yesterday and more Ealges fans than Bucs! very sad to me as a season ticket holder when I feel im at an away game at every home game.
We released our so callled franchise quarterback and pay him his overpaid salary while he goes and plays for anther team.
Now we are going to release our Head coach mid season and pay him for who knows how long.
Also were 0-5 and with no qb and no head coach will probably takes years for another winning season.
Wow and you guys wonder why Schiano called us a laughing stock of a freaking team!!! Man it sucks to be a Buc fan these days.

  38. Buc1987 Says:

If the players and the team are going to start tanking it on purpose, then they better do it during the away games. Because I don’t want to see my team get blown out while I bake in the sun.

Also there is no guarantee that drafting a Heisman trophy QB or even a great college QB is going to take the team to the promised land. I’ve been through that journey with Vinny already.

  39. Patrick in VA Says:

@Bucs1987 – I can appreciate that perspective but my response would be, what else do you suggest? I mean, what we’re doing isn’t working, obviously, and it’s not going to change as long as we keep the status quo. Is coach going to give the team a better pep talk? Is he going to go to a workshop this week and learn how to coach? Decide all of a sudden to start making adjustments at halftime? If we’re going to lure a top tier coach in here then having a top draft pick will be a good chip to play (see Kansas City)

  40. Being Ickles Says:

Bring gruden back the guy was fired for having a winning program, now why is schiano keeping his job for losing 11 straight? (Falcons win is a BS win) Maybe one day he will be a good coach by why should this be the place where he gets the training th ebucs have a winning team now and to play like that against the bucs killer foles 2 years in a row is turrible

  41. Buc1987 Says:

    Big Rob…I fully agree.

givemeball….YES the Bucs fanbase sucks ass. Remember yesterday when it was 3rd and 5 for the Bucs at one point, and it got loud as hell for the Bucs O. That made me sick. Truth : the Bucs could have been 4-0 coming into that game and the Eagles fans would still outnumber the Bucs fans.

  42. Buc1987 Says:

Patrick in VA…yes and if Schiano = losing. Then why not keep him in there until week 17?

  43. Buc1987 Says:

Patrick in VA…there are also current players on the Bucs that are going to be free agents after this season. How do you tell them to suck and lower there market value for free agency?

  44. Patrick in VA Says:

I would think that appointing a new coach would show next year’s coach some different looks with this year’s players so he can see what might work and who he likes. Keeping schiano will only put on film more of the same. We’re going to do the same things in week 17 that we did in week 1 of last year because schiano is not a versatile, creative coach. He’s a one trick pony

  45. Patrick in VA Says:

I don’t think that change would mean wins, it would mean new looks and hopefully give or new coach a better idea about what he’s working with

  46. Jerry Says:

Lovie Smith would not work out well here. He’s a defense coach who always struggled with QBs in Chicago.

    Our offense would struggle.

  47. DomsAdvisor Says:

I am just glad we got rid of Freeman and Raheem. Who cares if they keep Schiano another year. It would be funny. But the Bucs are still better to watch than Freebird or Raheems chest bumps.

  48. Buc1987 Says:

    Just say no to Lovie.

  49. DomsAdvisor Says:

Whatever is done… no malcontent-esque coaches who are just like the players.

We need a general, not a player’s coach. No just happy to be there because they are a minority type coaches.

  50. Buc1987 Says:

There is also a reason why Wanstedt and Davis never got re-hired as HC’s. Putting one of them in as interim coach, might lead to blow out losses. What does a newly hired coach learn from that?

No just keep riding Schiano into the ground until the end of the season. I’ll just keep suffering and hoping for a better 2014.

  51. Bobby Says:

You can blame this on coaching all you want but I’m beginning to believe that our players are not nearly as good as they are being hyped. Did you SEE our O-line or what is supposed to be an O-line? How many games has Doug Martin been looking for a hole to run through?? How many holding penalties did we have after big plays? The defense just had a bad game but our safeties have a very hard time keeping assignment. Mark Barron just looks lost in deep coverage at times. That pass to Jackson where Revis was looking for help from the safety Barron was just standing there! That’s not coaching, that’s just a player not executing. Same thing with Underwood quitting on his route and causing the pick when we are driving down the field…is that the coaches fault?? That kind of stuff is why he got cut in the first place and most of you on here were screaming at the coaches for cutting him.

The demise of this O-line is astounding. Joseph is a shell of his former self. Zuttah can’t block without holding. All the drive killing false starts, holds, etc. That’s just poor play by players.

I didn’t see Philly making halftime adjustments to beat us. I just saw our D-line getting owned and Jonathan Banks looking like a rookie. Their O-line opened up holes and ours didn’t. End of story. By the way…Nick Foles is a heck of a QB. I don’t see Vick getting back in there the way Foles has played the last two games.

As far as our offense goes, what adjustments are you going to make?? We can’t run the ball so we have to pass and Glennon actually had a very good game. Penalties killed drives and the interception cost us points too. Hard to win when the refs are flagging every little thing on the Bucs but Riley Cooper can do the same thing they flagged Underwood for and it’s a TD.
I’m not blaming the game on the officiating but it does seem like they delighted in calling all the penalties they could. Some I just didn’t see.

If it turns out Schiano leaked the information on Freeman then he’ll be fired anyway. I for one would just like to let this season play out and things will take care of themselves. We’ll either get it turned around or Schiano will be gone and we’ll be starting over.

  52. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

    @ Patrick in Va

Appology accepted….I understand that it is a business…but the business is about winning…to me losing isn’t a strategy. We can agree to disagree on that.
The key is to make the best of the picks you have.

  53. Joke Says:

I’m okay with him staying just for the season, or going now. I think it’s unlikely that a new coach could come in and turn this supertanker around and lose us a top draft choice.

The main reason for him going now is so that the players know that the ownership is committed to excellence, but I think they could lose the players either way.

What would be ideal is if they could get their next guy (not just an interim guy) and give him 11 games to install his new systems. But I doubt their next coach is currently on their staff, unemployed, or willing to walk from his current gig mid-season.

  54. Jamaal Says:

We need a winner in Tampa that’s it. Someone who knows how to win. These guys that we picked up have never accomplished anything in the nfl. Seriously, Raheem has never been a force in the league. Schiano has never reached the national championship, yet alone had any nfl experience. They are not winners on the nfl level; the stats, wins and losses tell the story. Maybe they’ll be good coaches in the future but not now. I’m a die hard fan but they’re making it hard to be with all this circus act crap they have going. We have to much talent to not be able to win a football game. We won’t go into a rebuilding phase because we have a good team. We just do not have a qb, te, fb, match ups determine if Doug Martin will be a factor, pass rush still not a factor with the front four, I mean they’re trying to fix these problems that are easily fixable if you have been on this level before. But yet they can’t because they’ve never been on this level before they can’t deal with running a nfl team. If Dominik is gone after this year to oh well so be it. But we as fans shouldn’t have to endure this bull that we see every Sunday. All I have to say for the rest of the season.

  55. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

Here is an example of what I’m talking about.

In 2009 we won a meaninless game at Seattle…and went 3-13
Many were upset that it cost us a chance at Suh…so we got McCoy instead….but that win & the win at NO may have been a huge catalyst toward our 10-6 season in 2010.

    It doesn’t always compute…but yes I would rather be 2-14 than 0-16.

I went through 0-26….losing isn’t a suitable option for me.

  56. Jerry Says:

My guess is that the next coach is not going to make the fan base any happier because it wont be a proven guy. You dont find “winning coaches” on the market to be hired very often.

  57. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

I’d like to see how much $ Carl Nicks has made per snap, factoring in the signing bonus. It has to be astounding. I also wonder how much N.O. knew about his toe when he went into F.A.

The o-line play has been pretty bad. I feel for Doug Martin. As far as $ for performance as a unit, the O-line is just atrocious.

  58. WinterSpringsBucsFan Says:

Next HC MUST have a NFL lineage, a proven track record of WINNING. Morris and Schiano neither one had any of this. We interviewed Marty S. TWICE. I would love to know what Schiano had that Marty didn’t. At this point I wish he had gotten the nod over Schiano…we couldn’t do any worse.

  59. WinterSpringsBucsFan Says:

Someone commented about this the other day here for when someone would start a website for firing Schiano –

    http://fireschiano.com/fire-him.html

Wish someone could send this link to the Glazers.

  60. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

I believe it will be easier to attract a quality coach now vs. when we acquired Schiano.
Since Schiano the Glazers have opened up their wallet and acquired VJax, Nicks, Goldson & Revis….
We have drafted Barron, Martin, LVD & Banks
We will have a high draft pick
We have at least a cheap backup QB & perhaps a starter
We will be coming from a abismal record with a coach who is despised.
I suspect a new GM will be hired or the new coach will be a Gm/Coach…with two very strong coordinators.
    No State Income Tax

  61. 911bucs Says:

I just don’t get settling for potentially losing out the rest of the season. Not good from a business or players perspective. Besides my beer tab skyrockets when we lose.

  62. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

I can just about guarantee a win against Buffalo

I have traveled from NC to see the Bucs 16 times and my record is 14-2….Losses to the Steelers & last year to the Redskins.

Here’s the problem…I was planning on coming down for the Bills game, but may change my mind because the season is down the tubes….

  63. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

Guys….I don’t know whether you have noticed but I am not resigned to the fact that Schiano should be and will be fired (barring some miraculous turnaround). This Sunday I went from diaappointed but hopeful to discouraged without hope.
    It was a hope & a prayer….now its just a prayer.

I’m not absolutely sure where the Glazers might be on Dominick….it depends on how involved he has been on the coaching hiring decision. Without being on the inside, you just don’t know if this was primarily from the Glazers or not…if it was, they may give him a pass.

I will give Schiano credit…his drafts seem to be better…or Dom is improving or both.

  64. Tampabaybuctfan Says:

    now resigned……

  65. Chris Says:

Glazers need to hold off until the investigation is over from nflpa. If it comes out confirmed schiano broke HIPPA then he’s fired and with probable cause and no money is owed.

This Reynolds guy needs to think things through before writing something. Plus you really want sully as interim? Wandstedt could win us a few games. He’s done it and been there before. Remember 2011 the chiefs improved once Haley was axed.

I don’t like losing for draft position but if it lands us bridgewater who is going to be a franchise qb in the nfl, it’d be worth it.

  66. BucBob Says:

Football is a business, and it’s all about dollars and cents. If the the loosing continues, the Glazers pocketbook will be greatly affected, by the lack of game attendance, and lack of consession revenues. Also we can agree, that this team has lost any emotional investment that it once had for it’s present head coach. Judging on, what I’ve seen from the Glazers, in the past. I would think they are working desperately behind the scenes trying to come up with a solution. If I were to guess, I would think that they would release Schiano now, and promote either Wanstadt, or Sulivan as interim head coach. Their contracts would be reconstructed with incentives, and a chance at head coach next year if they can turn the team around, to show some promise. Of course, either one can probably be had within the Glazers cheap budget, because of the chance it will give them. Once the weight of the Schiano tenure has been lifted, the team will move on, and may respond positively, with some better play.

  67. Oahubuc Says:

Show me commitment now and ditch this fool. We all spend good money in one way or another. The only reason I pay a sattelite bill all year is to watch the Bucs, and I would even fly to games again if I believed in the team. I wouldn’t mind at all watching a new system be installed for the remainder of the season under someone who knew what to do with our serious talent. Why should I pay to watch my team tank and flounder under this buffoon? It was free in the 80s when someone would inevitably drop a stack of unwanted tickets on my dad’s desk.

Frog march him out of #%^*ing town and do it now.

  68. NY Buc Says:

    @WinterSpringBucsFan

Playing Devil’s Advocate as to why they went with Schiano over Marty S…Schiano had 4 poor years when he first took over Rutgers and then 6 out of 7 winning seasons there (and an excellent record in bowl games). I imagine the Glazers looked at the mess Morris left the team in and figured they needed a guy who had a proven track record of cleaning house and turning a bad program around, plus Marty isn’t exactly a spring chicken in a league that seems to be looking for youth. Add to that Schiano actually does have 3 years prior NFL experience on the Bears before coming here, and it probably looked like a good selection on paper. Has it panned out, 7-14 says as of right now no at least not yet.

  69. Eric Says:

Turning around Rutgers is an entirely different animal than coaching in the NFL. A couple of years as a position coach also isn’t nearly enough.

Compare The resumes of Dungy and Gruden.

    Massively different.

  70. BigMacAttack Says:

    Joe,
It’s easy for you to sit there and say “‘Lets lose out and get the #1 pick” but so many of us that spend thousands of dollars each year for tickets (SO THE REST OF YOU GUYS CAN WATCH ON TV) and I’m telling you that’s BS. We didn’t sign up for Losing and Getting Worse as a team. Some may want to throw away their money to lose for the number one pick, BUT LOSING IS CONTAGIOUS and a hard habit to break. We got 11 games left and why not change it to spark the team in a different direction.

Schiano doesn’t deserve another day and hasn’t earned another dime of our hard earned MONEY.

I want to say “Yeah Coach it’s okay and we’ll support you” but I already did that ONCE. Shame on me twice is MY FAULT!!!

I gave 5 tickets to away yesterday in Protest and because I knew we were going to lose.

Guess what? Next week we’re going to lose again, and again until you change this system that is Vanilla with no Chocolate Sauce.

True a college program isn’t the same as an NFL team. Dungy was a DC who successfully made the jump to HC, but look at the number of NFL coordinators who failed miserably when promoted to HC (some recent examples off the top of my head Steve Spagnuolo, Josh McDaniels, Romeo Crennel, maybe Ron Rivera if he doesn’t turn it around in Carolina). I’m just saying that there’s no guarantee with any hiring, so on paper Schiano probably seemed like a good candidate for fixing a team in total disarray (2011 Bucs). Unfortunately it hasn’t panned out so far but still has a chance to show otherwise for as long as he’s the coach here.

The common denominator here is Dominic. He hired Schiano. Fire them both. Bring back Rich McCay and Lovie Smith. Both proven winners in the NFL. Problems solved.
