Gabe Carimi Had Mono

October 1st, 2013

The mysterious illness that afflicted Bucs offensive lineman Gabe Carimi recently was, indeed, an infection, Carimi admitted Tuesday at One Buc Palace.

Hold up! Carimi was quick to point out his infection had nothing to do with One Buc Palace being deloused — twice — recently.

Yes, Carimi said, it was an infection. An infection of Mononucleosis, the second time Carimi has caught the ailment.

“I had a fever, infection — no, it is NOT MRSA!” Carimi quickly laughed. “Don’t put that out there. it is not MRSA. [It was], bacterial something. It took it out on me. It was mixed with mono, too. A little bit of both.”

Carimi said he dropped some 20 pounds while fighting the sickness.

“I have been sleeping 14 hours [daily] the last two weeks,” Carimi said of how hard the mono has kicked him.

While on the rebound, Carimi confessed he isn’t sure when he will be medically cleared to play as the infection affected his spleen.

“That’s why I can’t go back yet,” Carimi said. “We have to take CT scans of my spleen to determine when I can come back. Hopefully sooner than later.”

Carimi said he wasn’t give a time-frame at all by the doctors when he could return to full practice participation on a regular basis.

He must have enjoyed the ice cream and Jell-O he could. Nice to hear he’s getting better.

  2. King Couch Fan Says:

And to think people just KNEW he had MRSA and it was all Schiano’s fault.

  3. Andrew 1 Says:

and most of you thought he had some kind mental disorder like Sears. see what happens when you jump to conclusions? now apply that same rational to all things bucs. be patient people and you will get your answers.

  4. King Couch Fan Says:

What was that other conspiracy theory? Oh yea, Schiano was forcing him to play guard and Carimi was sat out because he refused… another stupid theory. LoL

  5. Young buc Says:

    Fire greg schiano

  6. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    PFT hinted it was MRSA.

  7. That_Dude Says:

they need to hire Lovie Smith or Mike Singletary

  8. SteveK (MGM) Says:

We would be the team to go 0-16 and still get the #2 overall draft pick.

Just the kind of crap that happens to us.

  9. Bobby Says:

Personally, I think he caught the mono from Josh Freeman….Schiano made them shower together. I heard this from a close friends, uncles, brother who is a former trainer for the Bengals but has a connection at the concession stands at Raymond James. I’m pretty convinced this one has validity.

  10. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Yeah, clearly Schiano’s doing here. Has his MO all over it. Spreading harmful infections, vote rigging, releasing private medical information, forcing his players to eat chilled pasta, making them “go hard” in practice. Is there no end to his brutality??

  11. zam Says:

OMG MRSA! you encounter MRSA all the time. Your body is probably covered with it right now.

Unless it gets past your skin, and gets past your bodies normal immune response, it doesn’t do anything. And even then it’s resistant to many antibiotics, but not all.

  12. Bucs Fan #238 Says:

Making them go hard in practice… as requested by the owners… after Raheem’s epic failure as a players coach.

Sometimes things just don’t make sense.

    I know, right???

  14. Bobby Says:

Schiano has to go!! I heard he made them put pads on last week!!!! The college crap ain’t gonna fly here!

  15. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Bobby, now youre talking. How DARE he? Doesn’t he realize these are grown men, not college kids? You can’t tell a grown man to practice hard. I’m not sure what he was thinking. This is the NFL! Its all about touchdown dances, two hand touch, and dancing with the stars!

  16. Elijah Says:

Get well soon! Gabe …we need you!

  17. Bobby Says:

    @ShutTheBucUp….

That’s right. These guys don’t even need coaches. They all already know more than the coaches. Just let them dress and play sandlot. Talent wins out over scheme every time! The defense is better this year simply because Revis and Goldson showed up, not because we put them in any sort of defensive scheme to utilize their talent. Sacks?? Hey, stuff happens and we just lucked into some this year. The motto should be “Party and Play…Party and Play!” Adderall for all and all for adderall !

  18. Jordan Says:

Schiano rigged the water bottles by rubbing the inside with a swab of mononucleosis contaminant. The only problem….. Gabe grabbed Josh Freeman’s water bottle!!

^^ Thats funny and creative thinking!!

  20. Neil Says:

Mono is terrible and hard to get rid of. It takes everything out of you just to get out of bed. Wishing him a quick recovery.

  21. Adam L. Says:

I had mono in college. I was literally on an all Popsicle diet for about a month because my throat closed up. There’s no medicine for it since it’s viral. It just has to run its course.

Ugh. I feel for the guy.

  22. BirdDoggers Says:

Glad to hear Gabe is getting better.

Didn’t Schiano say he didn’t know why Gabe was out? How does the head coach not know one of his players is sick? I’m sure Gabe was diagnosed long before Schiano made those comments at a recent press conference.
