“A Direct Swat At Mark Dominik”

September 25th, 2013

Jumping on Greg Schiano for what he believes is clear double-talk, the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig, lashed out at the Bucs’ head coach yesterday on the Buccaneers flagship radio station, WDAE-AM 620.

Duemig noted the contradiction between Schiano saying Friday that he has all the “components” to win now and Monday night saying, “you can’t load the entire roster in a two-year period.” Monday’s comment came during a response to a fan who questioned the coach on the radio about the Bucs’ lack of depth at receiver and tight end.

Duemig characterized the contradiction as a “direct swat” at rockstar general manager Mark Dominik, who has spent five years building the Bucs, and Duemig accused Schiano of seeking Jon Gruden-like control over personnel without the winning resume. “Would you trust this franchise to this maniac, power-hungry maniac … who talks out of both sides of his mouth?” Duemig asked his listeners.

The perceived shot at Dominik was a take sent national earlier yesterday by NBC Sports and ProfootballTalk.com insider Mike Florio.

The comments aren’t a surprise.  For a losing team it becomes inevitable that Schiano and Dominik will try to ensure that, if someone walks the pewter plank, it’ll be the other guy.

Joe can’t say with certainty this was an intended Schiano shot at Dominik, but Joe is concerned that the head coach believes it takes three or more years to have effective depth in the NFL. That’s just not the case when it comes to the 2013 Bucs. (Listen to Duemig’s entire blast at Schiano below.)

Well if Schiano goes so does Dominik. Sorry but you don’t get 3 chances to find a coach when your record as GM is in Matt Millen territory, and your draft history is full of really good and really bad (thus averaging to mediocre).

They both should be flogged, tarred and feathered, then fired!

I’m in a good mood, so keel hauling and plank walking can be put on hold.

    For now.

care to link Chris Palmer’s podcast from last week where he was very critical of Mark Dominik. Said that MD (your rock star GM) was a poor evaluator of talent……other than making a couple of clever moves (Martin/David) in the daft, what does Dominik have to show for his efforts? McCoy was a no-brainer. How did he do with Freeman as a franchise QB? How did he do at TE with Stocker? Look at how many current players are still around from 2009, 2010, 2011 drafts. Look at the team’s W/L record while Rock Star has been at the helm. He’s not blameless in this mess…….

  8. blackmagic00 Says:

Schiano must really be feeling the heat if he’s benching free before the bye

  9. bucrightoff Says:

Wow, ballsy move if nothing else by Schiano. No pressure Mike, just gotta turn the whole ship around…

Joe had to have choked up his coffee on this!

Schiano has talked out of both sides of his mouth since he’s been in Tampa. This is nothing new.

  12. blackmagic00 Says:

    Joe are you ok?

The pieces are there to win. This guy didn’t do anything at Rutgers.

You know Duemig publicly destroying Schiano is proof of how the media can use it’s bully pulpit to form and mold public opinion. Duemig’s campaign to use his soapbox to sway public opinion is a clear and blatant misuse of his own wielding power. No-one should be allowed to use the airways as a personal death machine to oust whoever they disagree with. That should be a clear violation of Clear Channel’s code of ethics and Duemig should be reprimanded. It’s one thing to allow free press but it’s another when the press uses their position to cause irreparable harm.

It was an under-the-radar signing that shouldn’t have been. When defensive lineman Michael Bennett signed a one-year, $4.8 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks in March, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost their most disruptive weapon against the pass, and Seattle head coach Pete Carroll added a perfect wingman for the subtleties in his defensive fronts. Carroll runs what he has called a “4-3 scheme with 3-4 personnel,” and in that personnel, he always has room for unique athletes who bring interesting attributes to the defenses he draws up.

Calling Coach Schiano is a maniac is libelous.

    libel

    1) n. to publish in print (including pictures), writing or broadcast through radio, television or film, an untruth about another which will do harm to that person or his/her reputation, by tending to bring the target into ridicule, hatred, scorn or contempt of others. Libel is the written or broadcast form of defamation, distinguished from slander, which is oral defamation.

You might want to check the definition of “maniac.” And your definition is a dictionary definition, not a legal definition. Two different things.–Joe

Phase 1 of The New Schiano Takeover is complete.

    1) Take Out Freeman – check
    2) Take out Sully, Promote McNulty –
    3) Undermine and Take Out Dominik –
    4) Assume the Role of HC & GM like Belicheat –

    PJ Fleck (former assistant):

“He had a hand in every aspect of that program. He wasn’t just the football coach, he was everything. He was the marketing director. He was the fundraiser. He was the recruiting coordinator. Greg could do anything. He did do everything.”

  20. Patient Please Says:

Benching Freeman this early means someone is in panic mode. The sad thing is, Josh really didn’t get any work in the preseason games. Thus, making the first two games to be more like a preseason to him.

The first game the coaches were no more prepared than Josh, getting plays in late. The second game, we can thank Lindell for the loss to the Saints. The third game Josh showed improvement in decision making, and had Mike Williams not got hurt, I think he and Josh would of had a big game. I believe the coaching, and recievers were more to blame in the third game than Freeman.

Schiano’s play calling reminds me a lot of Tony Dungy’s when he was here – Run, Run, Pass, Punt. I think this is sad day for Buc fans, as Schiano has pretty much tried to pass all of the blame to Josh, and probably has thrown away our season. It’s time to send him back to the college ranks, and bring in Lovie Smith before we get rid of Freeman.

Freeman has the skills, he has yet to have a legitimate coach to properly teach him, and build a system around his strengths.

[Look, Clear Channel communications is a marketing partner of Joe. Therefore, if you continue to trash on-air talent from Clear Channel, it is a Crime Against Joe and subject to banishment. Joe’s done it before — Joe].

  22. Morgan Says:

What’s Duemig going to say today? Fire Maniac Schiano, hire Rich Bisaccia? Guess I’ll listen for laughs, mostly.

  23. Jimmy Says:

Really!? This coming from the king of BS? [Edited for hate speech] Dog said that he didn’t care that Gruden had won three division titles while with the Bucs and that we want Super Bowls not divisional championships. How do you like your handy work now. No playoffs since Gruden left. Great job! All his show does is try to get [Edited for hate speech.] As he sits in his little studio and tries to convince everybody he know more about [Edited for hate speech] Madden. Ridiculous!
