Another Laughable Fine From The NFL

September 13th, 2013

Dashon Goldson won’t stop drilling opponents anytime soon. He told Joe that Wednesday, when Goldson said he was fined a “significant number” by the NFL for drilling Jets receiver Jeff Cumberland. Joe believes that should be a clean hit.

The amount of the fine got out today, and it was $30,000, so reported ProFootballTalk.com.

Joe really finds these fines laughable. That $30k is about .4 percent of Goldson’s annual salary. That’s the numerical equivalent of fining a typical Florida fifth-grade teacher $160 for a belting a kid in the head. But in reality, Goldson’s fine is meaningless cash to him, assuming he’s not in Warren Sapp debt..

If the NFL was really serious about deterring players, then it would have much bigger fines.

Joe’s glad the NFL isn’t fining guys enough to turn the league into true touch football. Hopefully, that won’t ever happen.

Actually, the more laughable fine was Lavonte getting almost $8k for a shove..i mean seriously, whats the worst thing that could happen, a rug burn? The NFL – pussifying the sport I love 1 fine at a time.

  2. SensibleBuc Says:

Isn’t flagging Goldson, extending the Jets drive which subsequently resulted in at Jets touchdown not enough? Does the League office not view the tape to see where he hit the guy? Where’s the common sense here?

  3. Andrew 1 Says:

I agree. they were clean hits. but if we cant win then Im all for inflicting pain on the opposing team.

on the bright side, at least the fine money goes to charities.

  4. Jason Says:

Yea, the official word was he hit the WR in the neck/head area. I guess refs arent the only blind ones. The chest is now a part of the neck/head area, in case you werent aware.

  5. bucrightoff Says:

The violence of the hit is what is policed now. Even if you land a 100% clean shot, if there’s a violent reaction its a penalty now. NFL is in lawsuit prevent mode and will be forever now. Might as well get used to it.

  6. buc4life24 Says:

It’s unbelievable how much this sport is changing! That was a perfect, textbook hit to jar the ball loose and make it an incompletion!

If he had allowed the reciever to catch the ball and make a “football move”, it would have been proceeded by a TD dance! Unfreakin real! Someone needs to dethrown the comish before it turns to flag football!!!!!

  7. Kevin Says:

Whats funny too me is I saw the same style play from players in the 4 O’clock games, sunday night monday night and thursday night games without the flags. I’m sure there may still be fines but you dont see near as many flags flying in the prime time games. If this continues I will be planning on dedicating my time watching hockey more than football in the future. They let those guys play and if you can’t handle it get off the ice. Thats a sport that will keep the integrity of the game for years to come. Sad Sad Sad the sport of football has become so corrupt and sissified it’s not much fun to watch anymore.

  8. buc4life24 Says:

Oh and heaven forbid the helmet flys off…..automatic flag these days!

  9. Kevin Says:

Oh yeah and if you go low and accidentally hit the knees at full nfl speed its a flag and fine as well as well. The new rule should be anything more than a giant bear hug to the ground is a 15 yard penalty. This league is a fucking joke.

  10. You Go Joe Says:

Cheap blocks and hits on the knees should be fined more, much worse than hard hits. Then again its comparing cigarettes and trying to find which is healthier. They all the same. (do not count those gay electric cigs)

  11. tj187 Says:

Crazy that this was fined 30k and Clay Matthews’ obviously dirty hit was only fined 15k.

  12. tonytwocents Says:

what do you expect from the commisioner?? He was molded by the corrupt animal that is D.C. The son of a Senator.

We watch football to escape the Insanity of D.C. Only to have Goodell bring D.C. to the NFL.

Its taxation without representation…. Its extortion.

  13. bucrightoff Says:

Oh and you can expect knee injuries to spike soon. If you can’t hit high without it automatically being a penalty, these guys will start hitting low. Concussions suck, but knee injuries suck much, much worse.

  14. tonytwocents Says:

you think that 30,000 is nothing to him? he could buy his mom a car with that. he could donate that to some local kids for uniforms, a park to play in, equipment…. but now it go’s towards Goodells diamond encrusted dildo.

  15. tonytwocents Says:

We’re just getting started… Next year, watch the fines come from hits to the knees/legs.

Goodell will be raking in the cash. And give the NFLPA head his cut, to keep him quiet.

Players need to sign waivers before every season not to sue. If the players dont agree, they can go to Canada.

  16. tj187 Says:

I find it also really dumb that Goodell is the one who decides all of the fines and penalties. Shouldn’t it be some kind of panel…have ex NFL players amongst others who could bring a different perspective.

  17. Machiavellii Says:

Ok guys I just came across this link and I thought I should share it. I must admit I was firmly on the fence with freeman but I think I share the opinion of this video now. If freeman stinks it up this week I think we need to go with glennon in week 3.

  18. Couch Fan Says:

^^^ That is to funny!! And the guy is absolutely right!

  19. Raphael Says:

Wonder what the fine is for shredding every ligament in the guys knees ? That’s what we will see now, guys going low .

  20. Jason77 Says:

Next year they will have flags around their waste.

  21. tonytwocents Says:

Machiavelli, why are you bringing that into a Dashon Golson thread.

    a) the guy was boring as hell, and took forever to get down to specifics.

    b) looking at the ruffles in his couch cushions, he’s probably sitting on his mommas couch. so he obviously isnt one to talk about making good decisions.

    c) who cares? ….except for Couch Fan.

  22. tonytwocents Says:

The Japanese rent out rooms of furniture that they pay to break with sledgehammers, to take out their stress.

American men need guys like the Hawk to light up a few receivers, to take out our stress.

Now that you take that away… All we have left is angry sex.. (which is phenomenal, but even better after a day of watching football)

  23. Morgan Says:

Goldson had seven of these penalties last season. This isn’t something new. He’s got to learn the rules – and they apply to every player. These penalties killed the team – kept the Jets on the field, extended their drives, and led to the Bucs losing to an inferior opponent.

  24. Buc1987 Says:

Kevin…I’m with you man. If it continues to stay this way. I seriously might go the route of watching hockey again and taper off from the NFL.

    and lmao once again 2cents.

  25. Buc1987 Says:

…..and to think this sport started off with players wearing leather helmets and virtually no pads at all.

  26. Posey99 Says:

Closer to 1%… fines are paid after taxes, not before.

  27. Bucamania Says:

Might be the three hardest hits we’ve seen from a Buc in recent memory. I’d by lying if I didn’t say I enjoyed watching Goldson send three Jets to the lockers! My only regret is K2 wasn’t one of them.

  28. BirdDoggers Says:

I don’t understand how the league puts a value on fines. Past history of the player maybe. Clay Mathews was fined much less for an apparently blatant Kapernick takedown. Yet Goldson appeared to be leading with his shoulder and unfortunately had helmet contact, which drew the flag. Doesn’t make much sense.

  29. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Andrew 1 Says
“I agree. they were clean hits. but if we cant win then Im all for inflicting pain on the opposing team.”

Okay, I take issue with this.

First, those penalties are part of the reason we did not win the game. Second, by saying he doesn’t care he is putting himself before the welfare of the team.

While I enjoyed the hits and feel they were legal, the man has to accomplish such play without costing the team penalty yards. He owes it to the team.

Joe, if you think $30k is bad…Suh got hit with $100k this week.

  30. Jim Says:

    Do away with helmets.

  31. Free's A Boob Says:

So $7800 for David for a tap out of bounds, $30K for a clean hit and Clay Matthews only gets $15K for a hit 3 yards out of bounds?

  32. 76buc76 Says:

Ref’s are so inconsistant. Take the david hit, the Mathew’s hit and Hall”s horse collar. The jet player’s beeking in David’s face could of drawn a taunting call. The Staley penelty (where he did nothing but take Mathew’s punches). Then the ref’s get the memo. Not to call the retaliation penelty. So after Hall hauls Jackson down. Jackson give him a big shove. No penelty. I think it’s time to send call’s back to a panel. Like hockey and now baseball. Team would get 1 penelty challenge. If they win they get another. The game wouldn’t have gotten to the David play. We would of won that Johnson holding penelty challenge. Since Geno was way out of the pocket when the hold took place.

$160 is a lot of money to lose for a school teacher.
