“I’m Anticipating A Much Better Pass Rush”

September 5th, 2013

Well, the headline says it all. Bucs defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan delivered the scouting report on the Bucs’ defensive line this afternoon at One Buc Palace.

Confidently citing “depth” and “natural pass rush ability,” and the freedom to rotate D-linemen, Sheridan said “I’m anticipating a much better pass rush.”

Joe can’t wait to see it. Seeing surely will be believing.

Newcomer veteran DE Trevor Scott is a huge X-factor, and a guy Sullivan mentioned as a rotating pass rusher. The Bucs need someone to help fill the Michael Bennett sack void, especially if they want to get “much better,” as Sheridan predicts.

…we are ALL pregnant with anticipation!!

  2. TrueBlue Says:

Is that because so many feel like they got screwed by last years defense?

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ TrueBlue

no….we are about ready to give birth to the new one!!!

  4. fridgebob Says:

Hmm, it has been about 9 months…

  5. RBellBuc Says:

Teo will have 9 or better … and we’ll be saying Bennett who?

In Schiano I trust. That is until I can’t trust him anymore. I don’t think I’m going to run into that problem though.
This season is going to tell us a lot about Schiano. I said it a month ago or so in here, before Shelton of the Times mentioned it today in the sports section. We are all going to learn what he’s made of in 2013. YES I have heard the Schiano doubters and I have many of them saved in my files. Because I think that they are dead wrong about this guy. I saw the bashing of him and I still see it going on today. As if they can’t give the guy atleast a 2nd season to prove himself. I call those people weak-ass fans. Fans nonetheless, it seems we are stuck with them. You and I can’t change their point of views. I guess that’s what comes with being a coach of a team that has not been to the playoffs in awhile. Some fans are restless and cranky. That’s still no reason to take it out on the coach that has coached 1 season and did a pretty good job for his rookie season. Winning cures everything doesn’t it? Think about how long Andy Reid was the coach in Philly from 1999-2012. In 2001 he took the Eagles to playoffs, so what, it took him 3 years to do it? Now I’m just using Reid as an example not an excuse. I guess what I’m trying to say is this The one thing I hate more than people bashing Freeman on JBF is people bashing Schiano. Give the guy some slack. I believe in him and you and every other Buc fan should as of right now. It’s been ONLY 1 season. I’m tired of fighting about Josh. If you people want to bash Schiano, then your going to have a war on your hands with me. I mean that and it’s going to go on all season long. Bash Schiano and it’s on like Donkey Kong. That’s how much I believe in this coach. I believe in this coach like I believed in Dungy and Gruden if that drives my point home for you. What does all this have to do with this thread you might ask? Because I KNOW not think I know Schiano knows what he’s doing. The pass rush will come along. Our Tampa Bay Bucs will be in the playoffs this season 1 way or another. It will take Schiano the coach some fans on here bash daily to get our team there in 2 years. I picked MY Bucs to be division champs this season. So I’ll stick by that prediction. If I’m wrong, then I’m not that far off though because that means I say they get a wild card. 11-5 division champs or 10-6 wild card. Oh and Go Bucs baby Go Bucs!

P.S. anyone want to copy and paste this sh*t, feel free because I’ll still be here in week 16 no matter what.

“Comments,” by definition, shouldn’t be longer than the actual article.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Buc 1987

    Ditto

  9. Buc1987 Says:

Really Adam is that by whose definition? Is there some sort of rule book somewhere?

  10. RBellBuc Says:

    @Buc1987

The fact that you are rooting for your team and all it’s players without putting conditions on your fandom is good enough for me.

I want to win too, but if we don’t it doesn’t mean I will quit being a fan and I will never say things like “We either win or.. or I want come back”. That’s BS. Contrary to what today’s entitlementalist think, it’s tough to get to the playoffs without building long term. Hell, it’s tough just to come in second place in our own damn division. The teams who have been dominating our division lately have been together offensively for over five years now. Freeman and our offense hasn’t had that luxury.

When teams like ours are constantly going through coaching changes, it’s going to be chaotic.

I want to win! ..I want to win! ..but if we don’t, sure I will be disappointed, but not ready to lynch someone like some lunatics act. Through it all thick and thin I will always be a Buc fan unconditionally like my first 25 years and I will unconditionally for my next 25 years, God willing!.

  11. tonytwocents Says:

@ ’87, Ive been questioning Schianos preseason moves, i.e. Crabtree getting injured. but I’m willing to lay that to rest because in the end, it was only preseason. after Raheem, I couldn’t get enough of his disciplinary tactics. I love it!

so for the time being, I’ll be cautiously optimistic. but I’m behind this TEAM with everything I got.

as far as Sheridan, or Sheriano, dude’s an enigma.

  12. tonytwocents Says:

    @Adam,

what is this, twitter?? its motherfu(kin JoeBucsFan! if ’87 put that much thought and time into his post, at least we know the guy’s genuine. so go back to jerkin off to your mom’s high school photo.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Adam

If Buc 1987 wants to go Ted Kaczynski on us…..let him….he is a passionately positive Buc fan and is fired up. Besides he is quitting smoking and that gum makes him a bit crazy.

87 Congrats on your Red Sox win over my Yanks tonite 9-8….better game than the Ravens/Broncos

  14. Buc Fan #238 Says:

Hey Joe. I really liked the article about the DC.

I wish you would do this more often… put articles out about the coaching staff.

  15. Buc1987 Says:

LOL..Tampabaybucfan..wow the Sox pulled it off huh? I missed the final score. I saw they were down in the 9th. Like I said I don’t watch baseball anymore, but I do follow the scores and the standings.

I never meant for that post to go that long. I also never meant or thought that I would ever have to get into battles with fellow Buc fans before this site. I have never seen Buc fans fighting against eachother at games or at bars while watching them play. Now I have fought plenty of times with opposing teams fans on NFL.com and only a few times there with our fans when they wanted to keep Raheem. Then there was this one guy that said the Glazers will never spend money on this team because all they care about is Man U so I did fight with him, because he was wrong. I was quickly proven right a month later when they signed VJ, Nicks and Wright. Even then he told me that does not prove anything. So I guess you can never win with some people. Besides I never look at it as a fight with most of the people in here. I look at as defending my team, and that is sad. It’s not an I’m right and your wrong point of view. It comes down to why the hell did you just say that about this guy or that guy that’s on my team? Yes it does piss me off. Obviously right?

RBell asked earlier so who’s gonna win Denver or Baltimore?
My answer : Denver without a doubt. It’s tough being right most of time, it pisses people off. Is Denver winning without a doubt? I think so.

    I agree as well Joe.

    @tony

Im sensing a lil’ scarface commin on! Lol

I always get a good laugh from your posts. Thanks!

Im sold on Schiano, not so much yet on Sheridan. We will know soon enough though!

    GO BUCS!

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Buc 1987

Keep up the good fight….I feel really sorry for fans who have no hope….negative 3 days before the season…at least let us play a game or two before declaring the Bucs dead. It is very sad indeed.
They have a right to their opinion…but sometimes I think they need some medication.

  19. CocoaBchBuc Says:

@1987…..Dude, i am as a big Bucs fan as anyone that comes to this site…but…really??? I understand the passion, the want and the need for OUR team to be successful. You unfailingly support OUR team, and i respect that. The reality is if you want to have our fellow followers on JBF to take your opinions into consideration maybe you should start to respect their opinions also. None of us are the ultimate answer to what will happen this year…that will only be answered on the field. Time to play….Go Bucs!!!

  21. richbucsfan Says:

Thank you CocoaBchBuc. We are ALL entitled to our opinion. I am NOT convinced this team can compete for the playoffs. Does that mean I am a hater. No way. I am bitterly disappointed the Bucs didn’t upgrade the Dline and CB position. I hope Revis is healed enough to play a full season. I hope #50 survives in the land of the giants, I hope Johnson and Banks shut down their side of the field, I hope Bowers comes through, I hope Watson or whoever plays OLB is effective. So, with all that said, I recognize the obvious weaknesses of this team, but I do not harbor hype just because it is Week 1. If the team is 4-12 or 5-11, it rests on the shoulders of those who could have gotten better talent but chose to pass. Error in judgement… serious error.

  22. Eric Says:

Makes you wonder why Coughlin fired the guy.

  23. squadoosh Says:

Honestly I don’t have much faith in our defensive coordinator until he proves otherwise. I think we have some good players on our D and am hopefull that they play tough this year but Sheridans track record of success is not good. Almost 27 pts per game allowed for the Giants and 24 pts per game allowed for us last year with one of the worst pass defenses of all time. This guy has to prove his scheme works and so far he is not impressing anyone…but I am rooting for him.

  24. joseph mamma Says:

My biggest concern is when teams (like the patriots) spread us out, Revis and Goldson can’t cover the whole field. So Leonard Johnson is going to have to either play better or will get exposed.
