“Who Wouldn’t?”

September 2nd, 2013

Johnthan Banks knows what’s coming

Today’s quote of the day out at One Buc Palace goes to rookie Bucs cornerback Johnthan Banks.

Banks was asked about how the Jets and other teams are expected to target him as long as Darrelle Revis is on the opposite side of the field.

“Who wouldn’t?” Banks replied.  (You can hear the full audio below via 620WDAE.com.)

The Bucs’ cornerback depth again will be a huge storyline and key to the 2013 season. Have the Bucs found a starting caliber corner in Banks, this year’s second-round pick?

Let’s hope so. Danny Gorrer, Leonard Johnson and Michael Adams are not starter material in the NFL, and undrafted rookie Rashaan Melvin is obviously a question mark. The Bucs absolutely need Banks to succeed. Banking on a rookie is dangerous business, but Banks does have the pedigree.

  1. Couch Fan Says:

I have confidence in the rook. I am extremely excited to see how he, Revis and the Hawk change our D.

  2. teacherman777 Says:

    Were screwed.

Our 2,3,4 CB’s are too slow!!

We missed on Grimes. We missed on Tyranne Mathieu.

We wasted a pick on Glennon.

We shouldve signed Bennet and Elvis Dumervil and maybe even Cliff Avril.

Dom is too proud. He thinks guys will develop.

We dont have time to develop!

The NFL is now or never.

  3. Sneedy16 Says:

    @teacherman777

You repost the same thing over and over again about the secondary being so slow, but our secondary is faster than the Seattles. Like I said before, Sherman is 4.56, Browner is a 4.6-4.7 and Chancellor is a 4.7 guy. I don’t see it that affecting them.

  4. Couch Fan Says:

I dont see how you can make any sort of determination before we’ve seen them in a real game together first.

  5. Morgan Says:

The odds that Banks can make it completely through the entire season injury-fee are very low. We better be prepared to play without him and Revis – might need to get some of those recently cut/waived players from other teams into OBP for some tryouts or we’re going to be screwed in the DB like last season.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

Last season was what Revis first time in his career being injured right?

  7. BamBamBuc Says:

Not worried at all. Yeah, the pass D was horrible last year, but this is not last year’s pass D. Clayborn is back, first and foremost. Revis is a HUGE improvement. Banks can’t be ANY worse than Talib or Wright. Gorrer and Johnson both started games last year, so even that isn’t “worse”. Goldson at FS is better than Ronde at FS (Love Ronde, but he was a CB, sometimes nickel CB, not a FS although he was playing well early in the year there). No guarantee of improvement, but Barron, David and Foster will all now have more experience to draw upon and should be better. If Revis were to go down, that would hurt, but I still say we’re better than last year with Goldson, Clayborn and the added experience of the young guys. If Banks goes down, we still have Revis and Goldson can help Johnson over the top. If Revis and Banks both go down, that’d be tough for ANY team in the NFL losing both your starting CBs so don’t worry about it, don’t whine about it… if it happens, accept it and the problems that come along with it. No team can afford Revis, Sherman, Peterson, Jennings and Samuel as DBs “just in case”.

  12. BucfansSUCK Says:

All yall so called Buc fans are gonna be crying when NOLA strings yall up like the sissys yall is. Yall be wantin evrybody fired cause yall to stupid.

  13. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Dezmon Brisco, and his third string QB, beat Banks terribly last week for a TD.
Of course, it was only preseason, but still …..
All in all, we are better then last year.
The problem now is our awful schedule.

  14. Alan Bucs Says:

Some people on this site worry too much!

  15. kh Says:

Bucs signed CB Marc Anthony, 7th rd pick cut by the Ravens, as the 8th man to practice squad. Another body to compete.

  16. Couch Fan Says:

Makes sense if your an aints fan I guess.

  17. BucfansSUCK Says:

Yall idiots better worry cause yall dont deserve to be winners. Yall are the worst fans. I been to all da sites and yall are the worst of all.

  18. kh Says:

    I’m surprised you can read.

  19. Andrew 1 Says:

    get em couch fan.

  20. BucfansSUCK Says:

    squeel lil piggys squeel

  21. RBellBuc Says:

Funny how it takes one outsider to get people to join together when they would otherwise tear each other apart … lol…

  22. Buc1987 Says:

    BucfansSUCK…no that would be PR.

  23. BucfansSUCK Says:

yall aint nothin but a bunch whinny lil girls. Grow a pair piggies

  24. BamBamBuc Says:

Teacherman… too funny, Grimes ran a 4.55 and Matthieu ran a 4.5. Not exactly burners. Danny Gorrer ran a 4.4, does that make him better? Revis is a 4.38 guy, just depends on if he can recover to that after his injury.

According to most “splits” I’ve seen, the first 10 yards takes about twice as long to get to speed. After that, it’s about a second per 10 yards, so it would be similar to 1.87 @ 10 yards, 2.87 @ 20 yards, maybe 3.67 @ 30 yards, then 4.55 @ 40 yards… or something similar. Well, with a 10 yard head start (CB playing “off”), there is no question the CB can stick with the WR on a go route for 3 seconds (average time for a QB to get rid of the ball). The WR should get 20-25 yards downfield. The DB, while reading the WR, may be slow to get up to speed, but with the 7-10 yard cushion only has to go 13-18 yards. By this time, the ball is in the air and it’s purely a matter of who adjusts to the ball better (which is technique, not speed). Beyond that, a Safety over the top is usually 15 yards deep (or more) to begin the play. Again, no reason the Safety can’t get there to help unless they read the play wrong (again, technique and skill, not speed). If they bite on the play-action, they’ll get beat. If they bite on the pump fake, they’ll get beat. Doesn’t matter if they run a 4.28 or a 4.63. Hip turn also affects speed. A 4.28 guy with poor hips slows down significantly when turning to run, but a 4.63 guy with great hips keeps his momentum. Too many factors OTHER than speed, but keep it coming teacherman…. I’m always willing to teach the teacher.

  25. Cmurda Says:

Im trying to get offended but its impossible. I guess you need to speak cajun to get it.

  26. BucfansSUCK Says:

wait til i get my big black cajun stick up yo azz will be offended. piggy

  27. Biff Barker Says:

Love all the experts in here today speaking in absolutes. Banks will get hurt, Revis too. Dom bashing, gasp, no Honey Badger?
Look, Banks knows what’s coming and so does Goldson. He’ll be rolling over the top giving him help frequently. Similar to Barron last year, it won’t all be pretty, but we will be better.
As if Revis, Goldson and an SEC Thorpe award winner is doing nothing.
This defense should come together as a unit soon enough. If Schiano is willing to eschew the Father Dungy brand of stubborn and adjust, we might even be on the top 15.

  28. BucfansSUCK Says:

i gotsa go but i be back after NOLA game while yall butt still hurt. Yall gonna go down lil piggys

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ BucFansSuck

You are a cross-dressing poor excuse for a Saints fan….they must have thrown you off their site. So…you come over here to try to annoy us…..actually you are starting to make the Buc Realist look good….and that “aints” so “big easy” to do.
Usually anyone that braggs about a big-black-mumba has got a pee wee that is miniscule & doesn’t work.
Keep wasting your time on our site…we love having someone make us feel better about ourselves.

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Biff Barker

Right On…..some of these guys probably predict that their Mother would abandon them and their Father would turn out to be gay and the brother would be an ax murderer and their sister would lay down for the entire team.
Just think…if all this happens we will get a number one pick next year. You got to look at the bright side!!!

  31. Biff Barker Says:

    @ BamBam,
Nice post up on the split 40 times. Thanks for dealing in reality.

  32. Chef Paul Says:

“actually you are starting to make the Buc Realist look good”

What are you trying to say? Are you calling the realist an idiot?

    lol. I’m just kidding

  33. RBellBuc Says:

lol … Maybe that’s his whole intention. Seemed to work. Jus sayin… lol

All of you who have bashed each other are now in alliance with each other. Rather funny actually.. It takes a seemingly uneducated fool from NO to get all of you in a lather against a common enemy. It worked … lol

  34. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Chef Paul

No…actually, I’m not one of the many, many posters who call the Buc Realist an idiot. I was taught to have compassion and empathy for those less fortunate!!!

  35. Biff Barker Says:

Who’s the new Saints chick? Better get your shots in soon before Mommy takes her laptop back.

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Biff Barker

Yea….I’ll bet she’s hot wearing that red dress doin’ a Tina Turner impersonation down on Bourbon St. Look out for that very small bulge in her dress when she hits the street though.
I bet some of the Saint players don’t even know the difference.

  37. Bucnjim Says:

I’m pretty sure I saw him at the Saints game last year dressed in his finest Longest Yard cheerleading outfit.

  38. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @Bucnjim

Do we call him a him, her or it?

We could refer to him as “one of those”…

  39. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ RBellBuc

I guess thats a good thing then. we owe a big thank you to that jerk for making that possible. Ill admit Ive gotten into it with Couch Fan before, but at the end of the day I respect him because I know hes a bucs fan and got his back when it comes to low life POS aints fan like that guy.

  40. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Bucsfansuck

    eat a d!ck.

  41. Couch Fan Says:

Agreed. We are sort of like a dysfunctional family. We can mess with each other but no outsiders can come in. Lol

  42. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Andrew 1

    Yea…..even the Couch looking good…

Hey Buc Realist…..I love you dude!!!

Maybe we can get Buc 1987 to join in on this love fest….in less than a week the season starts and we can talk about something more meaninful….

Thank you BucFansSuck….for doing the near impossible…bringing us together.

  43. tonytwocents Says:

smh. what the hell just happened here?? now people are gettin raped on JBF??

  44. Buc1987 Says:

“Maybe we can get Buc 1987 to join in on this love fest”

    LOL
I love everybody, just don’t rattle my cage. My new JBF motto :Don’t want none don’t start none.

  45. Buc1987 Says:

Where you been…..trolling on Bourbon St. for BucFansSuck?

He left our site for CarolinaFansSuck or AtlantaFansSuck…

Hows the quit smokin’ going? This worked for me…I quit in 1985 and promised myself I could have a cigar on New Years Eve….made it 10 years and then smoked one…..love ’em now…Cigar a great experience!!!

  48. RBellBuc Says:

I see the Eagles claimed LB Najee Goode off waivers from the Bucs.

  49. Tampabaybucfan Says:

And Cody Wallace to the Steelers….Teams are picking up our castoffs….a very good sign we are improving.

  50. Cmurda Says:

    Good point TBBF

  51. RBellBuc Says:

Yes, very nice observation. The high road!… 🙂

  52. Buc1987 Says:

Tampabaybucfan …well I quit smoking for about 4 yrs after smoking for about 18 yrs. Then like an idiot. I got really hammered one night off Jack. I went out to my van and grabbed one of my wife’s smokes. I smoked 1/2 of it and put it out I hated it. Then 3 days went by. Got drunk again. Went out and did the same thing except this time I smoked the whole thing, and so the trend started up again. It went from 1 to 2 to 3 to back to a pack and a 1/2 a day. All in about 3 months time. I blame it on the wife though. She’s so damn silly she only smokes about 2 cigs a day. A pack will last her nearly 2 weeks. So if she never had them around I probbaly would never have started back up. I’ve been on the gum for about a month now. I quit with the gum last time too. Except I got addicted to it just like cigs. I chewed it for about 8 months or so. LOL I had no intention of getting off the gum. Some people hate the gum. I love it. Your really not supposed to chew it longer than a month or so, but oh well. I’ll see how it goes this time. It’s a helluva lot cheaper than cigs and healthier too.

  53. Buc1987 Says:

The Buc games are going to be another test for me too. I imagine I’ll be chewing like crazy. Last Thursday’s game I was chewing like crazy during the game. When I chew it and talk and the same time I tend to spit a little while I’m talking. I had this chick in front of me there with boyfriend. She was wearing a tank top, and I could tell I was spraying her left right yelling make the damn tackle, and missed tackle again. I told my mom about it that was next to me at the time. I think I keep spraying this girl while chewing this gum. By the 3rd qtr they got up and moved. Ha I laughed. I know why they moved too.

  54. tonytwocents Says:

@’87, thats why you should quit after the season. I’ve caved maybe twice in the past year and a half. and both times I was sh!tfaced too. so now I decided to stop drinking too. and Ive been a heavy drinker since I was 14. Im on 32 days without a drink. the first week sucked, but I started taking B vitamins (GNC Mega Men Sport), and I lost around 12~14 pounds of beer weight. plus the vitamins have given me all this energy, (that I take out on couch fan, sorry couch). anyways, just thought Id share.

  55. Couch Fan Says:

All good. I’m a big boy I can take it.

sounds like you’re the one throwing out absoutes

  57. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Buc 1987

You have to fear the cigs…..absolutely fear them!!!

  58. Buc1987 Says:

Anybody watching this Noles game? This Freshman QB is putting on a clinic he’s 17for18 240 yrds with 3TDs all in the first half. Oh and he’s wearing #5. One can dream, one can dream.

  59. tonytwocents Says:

good stuff couch. I’ll hold back my jabs….at least until next Monday. 😀

  60. Buc1987 Says:

Tampabaybucfan …lol I just O.D. on the nic gum. I don’t let the cravings come.

  61. Buc1987 Says:

I just look at this way. It’s $30.00 for 170 pieces of gum. That lasts me about 2 weeks. In 2 weeks time I save about $110.00 compared to smoking cigs.

  62. Andrew 1 Says:

your right. this kid Winston is simply amazing. great combination of poise and accuracy. he just seems to know what to do on every single play. its ganna be while though before he gets a taste of the NFL.

I also really like Wilder Jr. would love to have him on our team.

  63. RBellBuc Says:

    Chantix …. it works!

  64. Buc1987 Says:

So ahh what jersey’s does everyone have? I have a Sapp, Brooks, Alstott, Lynch, Martin and of course my man crush Freeman. Oh and my cousin the long snappers jersey too. I’m going to try and rotate them throughout the 8 games. I want to mix them up. I have about 6 different Buc hats too.

  65. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Buc 1987

You can do it….hang in there…its not about the money…its about it controling you..You be in charge.

  66. Buc1987 Says:

Man Winston in his sophmore and junior year is going to be…sick! I mean I know it’s only Pitt and all, but this kid looks unstoppable.

  67. Buc1987 Says:

Tampabaybucfan…well my wife stopped buying cigs too. So there not around the house anymore, so that will help. Unless she’s hiding them on me. I don’t know. It’s been a little over a month now since I had one. I did quit for 4 years though. Hopefully I won;t go back to them again in another 4 years.

  68. Buc1987 Says:

Ya know my mom has had this crazy ass theory going for about 10 yrs now or so. That everytime the Noles win the Bucs win on the same week. She also thinks in vice versa too when the Noles lose, the Bucs lose too. I think she’s crazy though whenever she mentions it.

  78. clafollett Says:

Good luck 1987. I smoked for over 20 years averaging over a pack a day. I quit cold turkey back in Jan. ’06. I do have an occasional cigar but only nice ones and I puff on them. I cant stand to be around cigarette smoke now though. I feel bad for all the people having to put up with me when I was smoking. It really was any eye opener to be in closed spaces with someone who just finished smoking.

As for Banks and Joe’s post… He’s no fool. He knows what’s coming his way. Hopefully they game plan well and slide some support over to help him out. He’ll do just fine.

    GO BUCS!

  79. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ clafollett

A real good cigar once in a while is great….I quit cigs cold turkey in 1985….waited 10 years to do a cigar and I really enjoy them.
The key is to smoke the expensive big ones…that way you tend not to smoke unless you have enough time to do one.

  80. MadMax Says:

Hey bucfanssuck….I have little time to waste with you right now as Im helping a childhood friend deal with his son’s death…otherwise I’d rip both of your holes wide enough that you would be screaming for your “mama” instead of your “mamba”…..oh, she’ll get back to you when Im done with her, so keep playing with your mamba!

  81. SacBucs Says:

This is comedy..I feel good about our team. I bashed before but the moves that are being made impressed me. Dom is doing ok with the second draft. Schaino did great with the 53 and practice squad..Waiting on his preparations and in game adjustments. Sheridan D is suspect.

    I thi.k we look good.
