Josh Freeman And Divorces

Above all, Joe likes good writing. In Joe’s eyes, a good column should do one of five things: p!ss you off, make you cry, expose a fraud, make you laugh, or right a wrong. If one of those goals is not met, then said columnist wasted his time.

And no, writing a glorified feature piece about some player’s grandmother knitting near a radio listening to her grandson’s exploits at Northeast Cornfield State doesn’t cut it, which brings Joe to the outspoken Alan Dell of the Bradenton Herald. He’s unafraid to fire a few roundhouse rights when he needs to, and he certainly brings a different perspective on the Bucs.

Recently, Dell compared Bucs fans to jilted lovers and the suitor in question is Bucs franchise quarterback Josh Freeman.

There was a stretch last year when the Bucs went 6-1 and Freeman threw 16 touchdowns and was picked off only three times. A miracle worker was being sprouted from the grounds of Raymond James Stadium, his supporters argued.

But then there was that run at the end of the season when the Bucs lost five of six. He threw nine interceptions and five TD passes that included back-to-back four-interception games, including one against New Orleans’ woeful defense. In an early-season loss to Dallas, we saw glimpses of problems when he was 10 for 28 for 110 yards.

The inconsistency has sent the Tampa Bay faithful into a tizzy. It’s like trying to love your wife while she constantly cheats on you. They want to adore Freeman and take him into their arms, but he keeps giving them reasons not to put their faith in him.

Joe is pretty sure some of that inconsistency will melt away this year. Mike Williams has been vocal about how he and Freeman have mindmelded on the field, it’s as if they are thinking as one, or as Williams put it, he is throwing the ball to himself.

David Joseph noted the Bucs have barely cracked open their playbooks. What fans have seen from the Bucs’ offense is barely a glimpse.

Joe believes part of Bucs fans going so nuts over Freeman is the anticipation of the coming season. The journey to the future begins in 11 days.

Josh started throwing picks when the oline started playing badly. The only good game the online has had since was the last game of last season, when Atlanta wasn’t even making a real effort and half their starters pulled out early.

  2. Couch Fan Says:

11 Days! Meaningful games! No excuses! Im pumped!

  3. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

And a good column to me has to have more fact than opinion. The truth. Not guessing. No “unnamed sources”. Only named ones.

    The lost art of reporting…

  4. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Me too, Couch! Can’t wait!

  5. stevek Says:

    Bonzai,

Josh started throwing picks, because he sucked at the end of last year.

No excuses in 2013, playoffs or bust!

  6. Mulligan Says:

The comment about “barely cracked open the play book” is somewhat concerning. While I wouldn’t expect the Bucs to show too much the comment seems to indicate the Bucs will roll into NJ and be running the majority of the plays for the first time (at least this season) against a live Dfense. (I think the quote should be attributed to Davin Joseph and not David Joseph)

  7. Oldguy Says:

While the play (especially by the offense) in the pre-season has been somewhat disconcerting, I would give the benefit of the doubt to Schiano, Freeman, and company. Let’s see how they do against the Jets. Hard to know, but my guess is that they will do very well. It should be fun to watch.

  8. Buc1987 Says:

“barely cracked open the play book” = have not even showed anyone(except the players on the team) the playbook at all during preseason, fans included. Good lord some people take things so literal. It was a play on words ffs. The plays we and the rest of the league saw them run in preseason are probably not even included in the playbook.

I have to admit, I have not read the relationship that Bucs fans have with Josh Freeman encapsulated so suscinctly. This is pretty much spot-on, hit-the-nail-on-the-head, the-perfect description.

We, the fans, KNOW he’s got what it takes physically, but we HATE that he just can’t seem to get his shit together.

“The journey to the future begins in 11 days.”

Thank the Lord…so the whiners might stop talking about the past for once, seeing how that’s all we have to go on.

  11. Sharon Says:

    19 more days……..

Till Glennon takes over! Go Tampa!

  12. Buc1987 Says:

    ^^^ oh the silliness

  13. Couch Fan Says:

Funny how you label people as “whiners” but yet you are the only one who throws tantrums and threatens to leave like a little girl only to hide and watch the comments then come back like it never happened. LMAO

  14. tampabaybucfan Says:

A column is a good column if it attracts readers…..readers buy products or services from Joe’s advertisers….Joe’s advertisers are happy.
Now, that is a good column.
So now we know why Joe likes to inject Shaun King!!!

“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”

  15. MadMax Says:

    @Couch, ROFLMFAO 🙂

  16. IamTheOne Says:

I am so optimistic, I believe the Bucs will win more games than they play this year.
Josh will play soo well John Gruden will offer to have his baby on tv.

Ok so maybe I am a little overly excited.

But for now, I can be glad that soon, very soon

THERE WILL BE REAL FOOTBALL TO WATCH!!!

Hope springs eternal, and I has it yet today, tomorrow my dreams may end but today, I had it today.

  17. Chris Says:

Wht josh freeman needs to work on is composure. When things go wrong he gets rattled and starts getting erratic.

Here’s Colin Kapernick for example. NFC title game mid way 2nd qtr down 17-0. The guy didn’t flinch. Kept his composure and started the comeback with a 10-11 play drive. When have you seen josh freeman even do something like that in a reg season game? He makes tough situations worse.

The way freeman closed the season was defenses game planed and schemed around him. He needs to adjust or things can get rough this year.

  18. Chef Paul Says:

“The plays we and the rest of the league saw them run in preseason are probably not even included in the playbook.”

I hope not since they don’t work. lol

  19. RustyRhino Says:

Here I thought the only one married to Freeman is Coach Morris, I am a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So who ever is on this team I support, until I can’t anymore due to cuts, injury, trades or poor play (in my eyes) I have faith in Freeman until he proves me wrong, he has not shown much in preseason games but that might be by design. “I will tolerate you until I can replace you”

  20. Chris Says:

Just thought of something with some déjà vu. Last time a Barber retired he criticized eli manning and he took them to a Super Bowl.

While ronde was more professional saying freeman cannot carry our offense, could we see the same response from Josh Freeman? I sure hope so.

  21. GRIF4FREESUX Says:

After the bye it’s all Glennon.

  22. GRIF4FREESUX Says:

@ chris, all freeman needs is composure.that’s like saying boy that car would drive great if it had tires…duhhh…

  23. King diamond Says:

    Freeman needs to produce because
This is his final contract year regardless
if he remains a buc because if he performs
Poorly his stock will drastically reduce.

  24. buc4lyfe Says:

psycho buc fans that think that every nfl team except the bucs have starters sitting behind starters….i think were better off with our roster for instance, who will hurt more if the staring qb goes down bucs or saints or falcons or panthers…nah this roster is able to win now, no were not the seahawks or niners but falcons went 13-3 they couldnt beat them either
