“Mark Dominik Needs To Stop Talking”

Beat writer and sports radio host Rick Stroud offered some harsh words for the Bucs’ GM

The will-he-or-won’t-he-play-in-the-preseason chatter swirling around Darrelle Revis has taken on new life.

Yesterday, rockstar general manager Mark Dominik told BSPN that Revis may play next week but later Greg Schiano and Darrelle Revis lowered those expectations publicly.

Tampa Bay Times Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud is no fan of the mixed messages. “Mark Dominik needs to stop talking,” Stroud said on The Sports Page on WDAE-AM 620 this morning.

Joe really can’t get all caught up in the nonsense. Joe thinks Revis could use the confidence that would come from a few preseason series. He is, in fact, human. But if Revis is not fully recovered, then there’s no point rushing it. Superman Adrian Peterson managed to dominate without playing last August. (Click below to hear Stroud’s full take, and his impressions of Tom Brady versus the Bucs defense yesterday.)

From what I gather. Revis thinks he’s ready. Schiano wants to remain cautious.

“Mark Dominik needs to stop talking”

Cue the realist any minute now.

  3. bucfanjeff Says:

He should play in preseason week 3. The difference between preseason week 3 and jets week 1 is 15 days. 15. Physically speaking, is there REALLY going to be a significant “improvement” in his “healing” period? Uh, no. If he’s “not ready” preseason week 3, then he’s not ready period….and we’re only talking a couple series to get the jitters out and build confidence. Also, if he plays preseason and you see something is not right, it gives you an opportunity to assess him, maybe put him on the 6-wk PUP and NOT cut somebody you might have otherwise cut assuming Revis was healthy. There are only advantages to him getting preseason reps, not disadvantages.

  4. DallasBuc Says:

Stroud needs to stop telling people what to do

  5. Buc'n Junkie Says:

Confidence? …..confidence? The guy is a future Hall of Famer, and he has 16,000,000 reasons why to be confident. He hasn’t forgotten how to play. As long as he is physically ready, he should dominate. Revis at 75% is still better than most at 100%. Just his presence alone will make QB’s conservative.

  6. Eastsidebuc Says:

Totally agree with Stroud. When things are looking up “Rockstar” is all over the news with diarrhea of the mouth. When things go south he is a monk. Just STFU “rockstar” and cut checks or crunch numbers.

  7. DallasBuc Says:

Sorry, people are holding on a little too tight here worrying when they are going to see revis. So what if the messaging isn’t perfectly consistent. Stroud telling dominik to keep his mouth shut is hilarious. Maybe stroud can take his own advice. Just being outrageous for ratings. Completely contrived issue.

  8. Justin Says:

The Bucs had Revis practicing yesterday on a wet field. If there was any question/doubts about his knee he would not have been within eyesight of the place.

And just a side note, Stroud actually sounds like he has a pulse on the radio. Unlike when he asks questions at press conferences where he resembles Eeyore.

  9. Blind Melon Says:

    Rick who?

  10. Kevin Says:

Is that all Rick Stroud can talk about? Get something better or maybe YOU should stop talking.

  11. DallasBuc Says:

It is appropriate for both Schiano and Dominik to discuss all things Revis. Notice Stroud didn’t tell Schiano to shut up! Wonder why?…

  12. Chris Says:

The bucs are just being cautious. They invested a 1st Nd 3rd and 16 mil a year. Revis is ready 100%. Docs cleared. Said he was even ahead of schedule. He’s slowly working his way back instead of rushing. Do I think he needs to get in a few series in preseason? Maybe. The 3rd preseason sounds realistic. But at the Same time going up against vjax in practice is good as well.

Remember Revis took NO GURAnTEED MONEY which means he knows he has a lot to prove and will.

  13. the_buc_realist Says:

Whenever the pop-star speaks, gaiety sax should be played in the background. Lol what a clown shoe our GM is. I am sure he had to have a talken to by the boss which Schiano told him to keep his mouth closed and just read the script that coach gives him.

  14. Couch Fan Says:

^^ And there is your comical quote of the day.

  15. BKNYfootballhead Says:

Whenever the_buc_felatioist speaks, his mouth is full of two things: one starts with

bull- and the other is easy to figure out.

  16. the_buc_realist Says:

Yakety sax. Stupid new phone with auto-correct

  17. stevek Says:

    Hey Rock Star,

What about our pass rush? Can you get a 10 sack guy on this team, or what?

Rock Star, hopefully, knows what he is talking about and Revis is ready to go.

Rock Star want to talk about letting our best sacker leave in FA for peanuts?

18 million in cap space, and no playoff appearance for the 5th year and counting is inexcusable.

Now, I hope we see Revis out there this weekend, but only if he is absolutely ready.

What we really don’t need is the “Derrick Rose” “Will he or won’t he play?” I want none of that. Either Revis plays, and the GM talks about it, or the GM keeps it in house and rest and recorvery can insue.

Because I am hearing our GM say he “might” play, I am expecting to see it. If not, that Dominick can shhhhhh!!!

    2013- No Excuses.

  18. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

I’m sorry but I thought “the_buc_felationist” was hilarious. Not normally a fan of name calling but THAT was funny.

  19. tonytwocents Says:

Rick Stroud needs to keep HIS mouth shut. Stroud makes his living off the words of the heads at One Buc, and he just took a sh!t on the GM?

I always thought Stroud was a douchebag. Ever since he went on air comparing Glennon to Napoleon Dynamite. Im not a Glennon Groupie, by no means, I just thought that was a classless cockboy thing to do.

As for Revis, throw him in there on friday!……..in the 4th quarter. F**k Rick Stroud.

  20. chef paul Says:

Ahead of schedule. I’m not accusing him of anything but don’t y’all have the feeling when they start testing for HGH there will be no more ahead of schedule. Remember I’m not accusing him but without testing, I’d sure be taking it. Especially if $16,000,000 was on the line. Glad we didn’t get him next year.

I also agree the Dom needs to shut it. GMs are not meant to be heard. Leave the coach talk to the coach. When the gm talks and tries making those decisions you end up with the Jets

  21. Andrew 1 Says:

yea, and if he did keep his mouth shut, he would be criticized for never speaking to the media. there is no winning with these local writers.

  22. Buc'n Junkie Says:

^^^ you are mad at Dom. Personally, I think Stroud was out of line.

The Tampa Bay media market has an identity crisis, they want to be so much like the northeast market. Where it’s no holds barred, drag them through the mud, name calling, finger pointing, dog eat dog, journalism. What the local media here fails to remember, is a lot of folks moved here from there to get away from that B.S.

Stroud saying publicly that Dominik should keep his mouth shut is disrespectful. This shock jock crap may go well in the northeast but down here folks take it a little differently. I bet Rick got a lot of negative feedback on that, and in his case, deservedly so.

  23. tonytwocents Says:

SMH @ realest… all your hating, and your obsession with Dom, is probably you trying to the suppress your – in your words – “gaiety” for him.

btw, don’t blame your phone. that thing is capable of taking your sh!t for words alllllll the way up into space, and send them allllll the way down to Joe, in a few seconds. Yet you cant figure out how to turn off the auto correct feature.

  24. PRBucFan Says:

“I’m not accusing him but I’m accusing him of HGH… ”

That’s what your post read like lol, comical.

And Stroud need to shut the hell up and not tell another man how to do his job.

  25. BFFL Says:

Journalism these days is pathetic. Surely there has to be a better story out there then whether or not Revis will play preseason week 3 or regular season week 1. A good story is one that people will remember weeks from now. Nobody will remember this Revis nonsense by mid season. it’s just low hanging fruit for a lazy slacker with no passion for what he does.

  26. chef paul Says:

Haha PR. Well I can’t accuse him personally. I just think every injured player SHOULD take HGH. Its a business decision lol

  27. PRBucFan Says:

    Jajaja I hear ya

  28. kh Says:

Of course Stroud would be the first to bitch if Dominik stopped talking to the media.

Memo to Rick Stroud, your job is to report the news that comes from his mouth, you keep yours shut, your opinion articles aren’t fit to line a bird cage.

  29. Buc1987 Says:

What the local media here fails to remember, is a lot of folks moved here from there to get away from that B.S.

Here here Junkie I hear ya, that and the crazy over taxing democrats. (ha I know your a dem, but it’s true.) I’m sorry I brought up politics but you opened it up with that line. I sure know that’s why my family moved to Florida from Mass.

Go Bucs Go Bucs Go Bucs…and Be Loud On Sundays.

  30. scubog Says:

The GM I want to have “shut up” is GM wanabe Jerry “facelift” Jones. Now that egomaniac loves to be on camera and run his mouth. Dominik said Revis “MAY” play in a pre-season game. His other more concrete word choices were WILL or WONT. Me, I like the “may” as the more truthful response.
