Belicheat Smitten With Doug Martin

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Bill Belicheat and the Patriots got LeGarrette Blount. And the Bucs have Doug Martin. Who would you choose?

Sure, Blount is playing damned good ball for the Patriots. In preseason. Against guys who will be insurance claims adjusters in three weeks. The Bucs still have Martin.

To hear the lauded Patriots coach talk, he sure is fond of Martin, so he said after the Bucs-Patriots joint practices in raining New England, types Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.

“He’s a good three-down player,’’ Belichick told the media Tuesday. “There’s really no reason for him to come off the field skill-wise. It’s a question of how they want to manage him. He can run, he can catch, he’s a tough kid. Good inside runner, good outside runner, can go the distance, handles the ball well in passing game; good on blitz pickup. Really, he can do it all.’’

This is what makes the Bucs offense scary good. If Martin can get rolling, it opens up the entire offense because defenses will start cheating and then — boom! — Freeman fries the secondary with a bomb to Vincent Jackson or Mike Williams.

Just look at the games last year when Martin got loose. The Bucs offense was impressive.

I watched the Pats game online and Blount’s first carries came in the first series with Brady still in the game. He looked decisive and athletic.

Who wouldn’t be? He had a 1st round grade (2nd by some) coming out of college and MORE than proved himself in year 1. Smart, tough, fast, versatile. Glad he’s ours.

We need to get much more production out of the FB position….more passes to Martin & the FB….take some pressure off Freeman….open things up.
Sometimes we go an entire game and Lorig only touches the ball 2 or 3 times.
On subject…..Martin is young, fast, durable and has great character…..what’s not to like?

Man I cringe every time I see the word “Belicheat”. As many people as there are reading this site now, I can’t help but feel you’re going to pi$$ the wrong person off. It is almost becoming unwarranted name calling. I’m just saying. It’s your house.

Martin will draw an inordinate amount of attention from DC’s this season, this kid is under no one’s radar.
A 3 down, 3 tool back like Doug is a game breaker.
Joe, I wrote you earlier this year saying Martin needed his carries limited, but receptions increased. Read the Bucs were throwing to him more this camp. Good. This guy in free space is a terror. Did you see Sully putting any interesting wrinkles in for Martin?

Remember when all the BUCS had to do was get Blount rolling and the offense seemed to function just fine? And remember how the coaches thought it was Freeman that got the offense going and decided to put all the weight on his shoulders first and foremost and seemingly left Blount out of the game plan??
Remember when Blount was running over and around Pro Bowl/All-Pro players and not players that are would be insurance claimers??? I really wish fake ass fans/reporters would stop discrediting Blount. No one will doubt that Martin is a damn good talent, but as Blount has shown, one season won’t make any player a Hall Of Famer.

Replace Martin’s name with Blount’s and change the year to 2010 or 2011.

I remember that cuz i was on the espn boards all year last year. This site might have been different but every 4/5 fans wanted blount in the backfield. He has speed for his size n crazy hops but ill trade that for a rb that can catch n pick up a blitz. Plus burn a defense with his speed juke stiff arm n roll a guy over with his athleticism n talent. Martin is the weight room muscle hamster man guys w ho train hard generally have a work ethic u cant sugarcoat. Expect another big year cuz its a second year in this offense n he has confidence that he didnt have at the beginning of last year. (Found this site around 2 months ago i think but i like it)

Well delson, I swear on my kids lives. I predicted when the Bucs drafted Martin that Blount and him would not share carries. That Martin was going to be the feature back AND that he’d be better than Richardson. I was on NFL.com though and of course Buc fans thought I was a fool for saying it. Ya see I’m used to the shyte by now. People on here are just going to have to learn that I guess. I’m usually right. If I was on ESPN with you last season I would have kept saying it.
I’ll be here all year. So anyone feel free to take your shots at my inaccuracies.

Also I might add I think in Schiano’s mind Blount was NOT a Buccaneer Man.

Oh yeah let me correct myself. I think I do remember a few fans wanting Blount to get more carries. Even after the raider game as well.

the ha ha ha ha ha wrong…was more about me being the exception. Sorry for putting it down in the first place without an explanation of why.
