Traveling Without The Leader

August 12th, 2013

While Joe will allow that he could be reading too far between the lines on this, Joe was surprised to learn today that Davin Joseph is not making the trip with the Bucs to New England, where they’ll practice with the Patriots tomorrow and Wednesday, and then play a preseason game on Friday.

Greg Schiano said Joseph will stay behind in Tampa for “strengthening,” presumably of his surgically-repaired knee. What, they don’t have weight rooms and trainers in New England? Surely the Bucs will have medical and conditioning staff with them.

Schiano also said a key part of the New England trip is about building “chemistry.” And since Schiano has stated numerous times that Joseph is a high-ranking leader of the Buccaneers, Joe finds it a little odd that Joseph, one of last year’s captains, isn’t traveling with the club on a bonding getaway.

Is it a red flag on Joseph’s health? Joe sure hopes not, but it’s hard to imagine otherwise. The other three Bucs studs coming off major injuries and surgery, Carl Nicks, Darrelle Revis and Adrian Clayborn, are all heading north.

This can’t be good news at all.

you don’t practice you don’t play.

and they are building chemistry…..with the starters! this says he’s not considered a starter until he’s healthy.

    and rightfully so.

Revis is different. he’s the 16 million dollar man. he’s a starter LOL

hmmmm. maybe the motto should not have been the ” no fly zone ‘ but the
    ” Red Flag Zone “

  4. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Its practice and a preseason game. I guess I fail to see the red flag. Probably more convenient for everyone involved to keep the rehabbing players at the team facility. If he doesn’t start game 1, then I’ll be concerned.

lol dont freak out people. its not like this is the first time an injured player has not traveled with the team. happens all the time. until the bucs say otherwise, hes fine.

still bummed out about Nicks though.

  6. JonBuc Says:

Not sure the dream team guard combo will ever fully come to fruition. I guess this is where 2014 potential cap savings will come from.

Buc fans and writers should be called “chicken littles”, the sky is not falling. Clayborn has a tweaked/sore groin and will probably play a few snaps or at least get some practice in against some in a different colored uni. Revis is likely going to practice against another team, but I would not expect him to see any game action. Nicks is expected to play per Schiano if all goes well. As for Joseph the Bucs probably want him ready for game 3 of the preseason, the one where the starters play almost a half, and was given an option to go north with the team or stay and continue his routine here in Tampa.

From what I have seen the Bucs’ are trying the damned hardest to have everyone healthy on day 1 of the regular season.

The only “red flag” this raises for me is the one with the skull, crossed swords, and football.

  9. Sneedy16 Says:

I see it as the team wanting everyone healthy for game one. We so far haven’t had any major injuries thus far. Some teams like the 49rs have been hit with injuries all offseason.

  10. BFFL Says:

I think this indicates that Joseph is behind schedule. BTW, Joseph is an above average Guard, but I think he’s a little overrated.

  11. Mr Lucky Says:

No big deal. Gives the back-up more practice.

I’m more concerned with Freeman than with Joseph

  12. buccanay Says:

I’d be more concerned about the lack of proven starters as DE and NT, and the lack of depth behind the unproven “starters”.

  13. Name Required Says:

Joseph hurt, Nicks hurt, Clayborn hurt, and Bowers butt-hurt. This, combined with a lack of depth equals 7-9 to me.

  14. Couch Fan Says:

    butt hurt?

  15. teacherman777 Says:

We should not push Nicks and Joseph.

I would prefer to be patient with them both.

    But heres the sad truth.

Its really hard for huge guys like them to heal.

This is such a dumb story, how about asking why he’s not travelling instead of the baseless conjecture? I bet it’s something as stupid as the rehab equipment he’s using is in Tampa, like an underwater treadmill. Maybe its not ideal for his knee to travel on a plane and they would rather he stayed in Tampa.

On a side note, I really hate the so-called fans on here that openly pray for a shitty season. Ya ya I know youre just keeping it real for all the homers, but I wish you would all just take a long drive off a short pier instead.

  17. Bobby Says:

LOL! Man oh man….Joe I swear, I’d love to go fishing with you. You use the right bait and hook the fish every time. LOL!

  18. PRBucFan Says:

    Lol So dramatic

Btw Joseph is our starter what are you babbling on about Robert?

  19. TrueBucFan5599 Says:

I don’t feel like davin is overrated. In my opinion he hardly gets enough recognition throughout the league. Our line needs to drink whatever it is penns drinking. He seems to always be healthy. And ppl want to talk about cutting our most reliable o lineman for cap reasons. He’s the prime example of a player u can’t always count on to show up every Sunday and play his best game. I don’t hear anyone complaining about our quarterbacks blind side. That’s bc there’s nothing to complain about. Penn is the most underrated tackle in the game. Hands down!

  20. TrueBucFan5599 Says:

I mean can always count on. Oops

  21. scubog Says:

I’m not going to read anything into the team’s decision to have Joseph remain at One Buc Palace instead of standing on the sideline and riding the stationary bike with the “Flying Elvises”.
