Dashon Goldson: Leading Through Pizza

August 7th, 2013

In a high-cholesterol moment that surely sent the Bucs’ team nutritionist into convulsions, Dashon Goldson used his fat wallet to further establish himself as a leader of the Buccaneers. Goldson surprised teammates with a pizza party at One Buc Palace last week.

“One day [Goldson] asked me what type of pizza I liked,” rookie Akeem Spence said yesterday. “I told him. Then I think after our meetings, the next thing I knew, hell, like there were 40 or 50 boxes in the lounge. I was like, ‘Man, that’s crazy. I wish I could do that, but I can’t.’

“Dashon, man, he’s a good guy; he likes to do things for people. Coach kind of laid back on us in practice that day, and [Goldson] thought it was a good idea. Some team camaraderie stuff.”

Was the pizza any good, Akeem? Domino’s?

“No. It was Pizza Hut. It was fine.”

Ahmad Black said that while the pizza was “just a small bone” Goldson threw, “we have to make that up to him both on and off the field.”

Greg Schiano has praised Goldson and Darrelle Revis for their focus on leadership, which Joe has seen extend to helping young player in the secondary after practice.

Goldson, obviously, is taking things a step further to build fast bonds.

I can’t even imagine how many slices those guys can put down in one sitting.

I hope he got a “side salad” for Penn. We are going to need him to be top notch all year!

The thing that makes a leader is when the hard times come, IF our secondary fails I wonder how Goldson will handle it. I still remember losing to the eagles last year and Ronde had the face of “Seriously!?! I quit”.

great story Joe. This is the kind of thing we need. leaders who know how to have fun.

man this actually sound like a team! leaders on both sides of the ball…..even better. leaders with something left in the tank!!!!!!!

Betcha Nicks alone could knock a pew pies back. But Pizza Hut? Aaack!

    Dashon Goldson = Buccaneer Man

Schiano is looking for players with great skill, but they also have to have high character. I’m onto you Schiano. I get you. It’s going to work too. Big things people, big things are about to happen. I mean sooner, rather than later too.

    “But Pizza Hut?”
I love Pizza Hut…they put extra grease in the crust, just for me..LOL

Slight loss of marks for going with Pizza Hut, but I suppose if you’re going with chain pizza you could do worse (i.e. Papa Johns).

  9. Revis Fan Says:

I hear Revis is throwing the team a Scholastic Book Fair with an Ice Cream Social afterwards…

Good on Goldson! Its good to keep reading articles and hearing news stories of the leadership he and others are providing. Like many here have already stated, its going to only make this team better.

    @You Go Joe,

I remember that look Ronde had after that game. I have a lot of respect for Ronde but I’m not sure we was a leader or more of a doer that hoped others followed his example.

Some guys just don’t do well with that later part and really need to be lead verbally as well as physically. Look at GMC and Goldson for instance, they are always talking and teaching to their crews the finer points of the game.

These are exciting times to be a Buc fan!

though i think its a cool idea, I dont think your going to buy anyone’s loyalty with a pizza party. these are grown men we are talking about. its a step in the right direction though.

  12. Vincente Says:

It’s about sitting together eating a meal that one if your teammates paid for. It feels really good when someone goes outta their way to do something like that. I love this team. We’re gonna win some championships soon and when that happens ill be telling this story. It started with a pizza party lol….

@Buc1987 Says: I could not agree with any more! I have said since day one, that the sooner the players and fans bye in this could be special! Heck who turns a Rutgers program around and makes them a contender every year? They were one of the worst college programs ever in college football before Schiano got there. It might not be this year but we are very close to being special. GO BUCS… Oh happy B-day Joe!
