Matthews To The Rescue

April 17th, 2009

Finally, the Bryron Leftwich signing has gotten former Bucs beat writer and current SI.com columnist Don Banks off the NFL bust-in-waiting Josh Freeman bandwagon.

In his updated mocked draft, Banks suggests the Bucs will draft a linebacker. Specifically, USC linebacker Clay Matthews.

The Bucs need a defensive tackle, but Mississippi’s Peria Jerry doesn’t really fit the wide-body type they’re looking for. That might elevate outside linebacker to the top of the list, and Matthews is the top-rated one remaining.

Joe wouldn’t be opposed to the Bucs selecting a linebacker in the first round. Joe would prefer a defensive lineman, but if it comes down to drafting either Josh Freeman or anyone else, Joe prays Mark Dominik picks a USC Song Girl.

I’m not against Matthews, but If D-line was passed by, I would think the next biggest need is CB not LB … but hey, it’s Don Banks.
