“Freeman Looks Extremely Rusty”

July 25th, 2013

One of three quarterbacks to lead the Bucs to the NFL Championship game, Shaun King studied Josh Freeman at Bucs training camp today and explained in Xs and Os detail what went wrong during an appearance on the Ron and Ian Show on WDAE-AM 620.

King’s assessment? Freeman “looks extremely rusty. … ball placement, which I think is one of his biggest weaknesses, has been a problem today.” King also goes much deeper into the Xs and Os of Freeman’s throwing and approach to practice. Very interesting stuff — whether you’re a Freeman fan or not.

The entire season is on your shoulders Josh. No pressure or anything…

  2. Pewter_Power Says:

Let the prognostications of doom commence…

  3. Ryan Says:

Oh Shawn King. I bet freeman isn’t as rusty as that treadmill you’ve got sitting in your garage.

  4. tmaxcon Says:

Macabee = said the offense displayed fireworks today. As usual King is negative… I’ll go with Macabee’s take… King is useless.

  5. Bucs Will Win NFCS Says:

It’s hard to take a guy seriously when he didn’t show up in the most important game of his career with the best defense in the NFL.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

Shaun King the closet Bucs hater strikes again. His opinion about Bucs football means as much to me as my 6 yr old neice’s opinion about football. Even though he likes Freeman. “Extremely” rusty. King you crack me up. Did he mention anyone else looking rusty? It’s day 1 there is prolly many players that look rusty. Shaun King looked extremely HORRIBLE in that NFC Championship game.

  7. tmaxcon Says:

Nice comment – Bucs Will Win NFCS…. King is far more qualified to discuss all you can eat buffets than a credible NFL analyst

  8. chef paul Says:

Jesus King! I hate how I hate king now. I used to love him. wut a turd!

  9. Bojacksonsucks Says:

Kind of how King looked all of his career, nice self evaluation.

  10. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

King should be more qualified than most analysts to talk about quarterbacks but what he is talking about is pure speculation here. He is saying that Freeman is throwing the ball around without targeting a specific window. There is literally no way he could know where Josh was aiming without talking to him about each specific throw.

I would expect all the players to be “extremely rusty”. It’s been a few months since their last organized practice.

  11. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

Anybody else hear “Danny Noble getting carted off . . . ” right at the end of that clip?

  12. ForgotAboutDre Says:

    And here….we…..go

  13. Walter Says:

    Ewwww, Sean King! Lol

Seriously though, it’s day 1, of course he’s rusty, pretty much everyone in the NFL is.

  14. Macabee Says:

Warning!!! Macabee is no NFL analyst. So take my assessment of what I saw as a fan’s observation. Frankly, I wouldn’t read very much into this practice. It seemed almost staged to me. A lot of media was there – Sapp and NFL Network, et al. I enjoyed it, but didn’t learn anything relative to scheme, position battles, etc. Revis didn’t even participate except for walk-thrus! And please get other opinions, I couldn’t see everything either!

  15. DJ Says:

King acts like rookies have never had success in a small role. Akeem is playing tilted-nose, where he’ll need to hold the line. Why is his apparent lack of pass rush an issue?

I don’t understand that Glennon is drafted in the 3rd round and everyone wants him to start, but we don’t want a 2nd round or 4th round player to get a shot at starting? At least be consistent in your opinion.

“… ball placement, which I think is one of his biggest weaknesses, has been a problem today” -King

Finally. An unbiased report based on facts or observation.

  17. BigSombrero Says:

Haha, no one is going to listen to Kings “analysis” on anything. Instead of writing about how he is one of three Qb’s to lead the Bucs to an NFCC game, you should start your articles off with “the only Bucs QB turned media figure to be called out by his own teammates for bias bashing the Bucs” Its a more honest credit considering King never lead that team anywhere, the defense did.

  18. Justin Says:

It didnt matter how Freeman looked today, rusty or not. But this was going to be the only response from King. He probably taped this before practice began.

  19. Bojacksonsucks Says:

Big Sombrero, you just owned Joe. Hate how King is living of the defnse’s accomplishment.

  20. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Freeman often starts camp a little rusty. It usually gets fixed by day 2.

  21. robert Says:

bad ball placements, interception, Mike Will having to make spectacular one handed grabs…..

    doesn’t sound like rust

sound like jfro 6 pack soul glow Jackson to me.

  22. Buc1987 Says:

I personally feel King has always been bitter about losing his starting job.

  23. Raphael Says:

Wierd cause I saw 4or 5 passes on the news today that looked right on the money.

  24. BigSombrero Says:

I have a question for King. Should Free have been extended by now or is he a headcase that looks like crap on the field?

Also does Dom always overpay talent or does he low ball his players like Mike Williams on his contract?

Also if Mike Williams is a notch below Victor Cruz and Miles Austin then why is King so adamant that he got underpaid when his contract is a little lower than theirs?

You see where im going here? I like Joe and love this site but your attempts to defend the guy aren’t swaying anyone. He is Bias, he does hold a grudge against the organization he claims to love and the more he talks, the more his contradictions come to light.

Analysts are often wrong, no one can 100% accurately predict the future, but the thing about respected analysts is that they take a fair approach to their craft and admit when they are wrong. King does neither. You can always count on him to throw it in REAL Bucs fans faces when he is right but when he’s called out for his crap instead of admitting he was wrong he tries to double talk his way out of accountability. I don’t respect that one bit.

  25. Matt Holden Says:

“The quarterback position is about muscle memory.”

Like, the memory of when you had some muscle, Shaun?

  26. Bobby Says:

You nailed it BigSombrero. King is a hack.

  27. Buc1987 Says:

This just in Tom Brady looked a little rusty today in practice…atleast from what I could tell. LOL @ King

  28. Couch Fan Says:

    Lol, you all are funny.

King is a known Freeman supporter. This has no bias to it, it was his honest observation, which isnt all that crazy considering most players come into camp rusty and needing to get back into rhythm. Some of you just look for things to hate people for who dont share your palm palms and love for anything to do with Buccaneer football.

  29. scubog Says:

Didn’t get to go to practice today but have been to countless ones going back to looking over the fence at the original Bucs Place. I can assure my fellow fans that anyone watching practice is only able to witness selective plays since there is action all over the two practice fields. You cant see everything. Funny that Shaun declares Freeman rusty. Shouldn’t we expect all players to be “a little rusty” on the first day of camp? It’s just one observation that will vary from day to day and play to play. As usual, Robert’s comments are so old they no longer have any value. Shaun King declared them “rusty”.

  30. d-money Says:

The only thing King is a supporter of is Mcdonalds.

  31. Buc1987 Says:

@Couch Fan….King’s remarks about Freeman have NOTHING to do with is secret hatred for the Bucs. It’s been said before by many of us WEEKS before King made his statement today. I myself called him a closet Bucs hater about a month ago in here. He is what he is.

I think you’re a Shaun king hater bc king has said time and again how he thinks freeman should have been locked up and is a very good starting qb in te nfl.

So his truthful analysis says what today?

Tom Brady doesn’t have anything to prove. Freeman’s seat is scorching.
