Bullish On The Bucs

July 23rd, 2013

training camp

It’s easy to see why Bucs fans are geeked about the coming season. When you have newcomers like Batman and Robin added to current stalwarts Lavonte David, Gerald McCoy, Vincent Jackson, Doug Martin and Mike Williams, it’s been a while since the Bucs have had so much star power.

This has even caught the eye of eye-RAH! Kaufman of The Tampa Tribune. When he appeared on “The Opening Drive,” co-hosted by Bob Papa and Amani Toomer last week, Kaufman admitted it’s been quite a while since he’s seen a Bucs team with this much talent.

“They have a very exciting team. They have eight guys on this roster who have been to the Pro Bowl – eight! Not many teams can match that. And they are all like 27 years-old. This team is ready to win. Rebuilding is over. They are laying in the weeds and I don’t think Greg Schiano minds being under the radar now.

“I think Revis will fix a lot of their secondary problems – not all of them, but a lot of them. You can do a lot of things when you have a guy like Darrelle Revis on your side. It is up to Bill Sheridan to be creative otherwise his job will be in jeopardy.

“I just think this is a good football team with weapons up and down the line. I haven’t been this excited about a Bucs team in 10 years.”

There are reason for optimism, as well as doubt. Can the Bucs finally break through, put the Dixie Chicks and Saints on the canvas and win the division? That’s a helluva tall order.

Then there is the NFC West, arguably the best division in the NFL.

The road that leads to answers of all Bucs questions opens in roughly 48 hours. That’s when the Bucs hit the practice fields at One Buc Palace as training camp, and indirectly the football season, starts anew.

What’s not to like….unless you are a whining, sniveling, complaining negative malcontent that simply likes to bitch about everything.
Sure, we have to prove it and we may come up short but we abslutely are moving in the right direction.
So, quit dwelling on the past and get on board…it feels better!!

My favorite line in this article is ” opens in roughly 48 hours”

    Heheh

This is going to be fun! Watch how quickly the media naysayers change their tunes.

  4. Biff Barker Says:

Said the same weeks ago, it’s the best I’ve felt about this team in 10 years.
Love the roster too, players to get excited about! Martin, David, Nicks,GMC, Revis, MW, Barron, etc.
Sure, every team has some warts, but it’s time for the bitching to cease you beaches!
    GO BUCS!

  5. Cannon Says:

Bucs are in the SuperBowl this year. Gonna call it now. (If I am wrong, oh well, can’t blame me for trying)

  6. Macabee Says:

And the Bucs are still trying to get better! They are bringing in people to look at today. Will be interesting to see if they look at CBs during camp given what has happened with Eric Wright. I’m happy with the guys we have behind Revis, but we’ll see if they want more experience!

  7. BFFL Says:

It’s about time someone in the local media has the balls to tell the national media they’re wrong for being bearish on the Bucs.

  8. BucDan Says:

Best team on the field in YEARS!!!

This is exactly why we should bench/release our incumbent starter at QB and have the guy we haven’t even see play start! Its just the most logical thing to do!!!!

    HA! HA! HA!

I cannot wait to see what this team is capable of this season. The sky is the limit. I remember last year’s preseason game against the Patriots and seeing how frustrated Tom Tom was that the starting defense (at that time of the year) was shutting their first team offense out while we drove right down the field for a score. Then Tom Tom throws a tipped ball and Barron takes it house.

Cannot wait til this season to see how ready we are to play. Injuries and inconsistency across the team held the Bucs back. I am hoping, actually, EXPECTING to see major growth this year from guys playing together.

This Buc fan is excited and you should be too.

  9. Chris@Apple Says:

Our Schedule is just plain Murder this year, and will probably keep us out of the playoffs.

  10. Gusjackson Says:

NFC West? I would argue NFC North. All 4 teams could win that division. The West has Seattle and the 49ers. St.Louis and Arizona are up and coming. I would be surprised if any of the 4 teams in the North won it.

Thanks for the positive vibes here Joe. Too many ppl around here having cardiac arrests over the frickin offseason, the GM and salary caps, etc. We are gonna see some fireworks on the field this yr. With 8 dif Pro Bowlers on the team and many players in their contract years I am expecting we will have double digits in players with experience going to Hawaii by the end of the year. Lookin at you, Lavonte and Johnthan Banks…

  12. robert Says:

we can all cry out about schedules and certain players inconsistencies…….but the fact is this team is stacked. They have more talent then they have in years and some guys that are intriguing as depth @ DE, QB, RB, DL and CB(well Banks should start).

They SHOULD do well, but I am just as stocked to see what these other players with potential have.

Win lose or draw I think we will see a quality product on the field and players we can root for as people and not thugs and me 1st guys.

  13. Macabee Says:

    Apple,

We play in the NFC-South. It is never going to be easy. We need to win there first and let the rest of the schedule take care of itself.

Our division rivals play the same teams that we do and a few more difficult teams than we do. We need to focus on the division. If we can’t win there, it’s probably a meaningless crusade anyway!

I do know this! This year is our best chance in a long time! Go Bucs!

  14. Buc'n Junkie Says:

On paper, there does seem to be a lot more parity in each NFC division. Like Chris said about the West and Gus about the North. The Giants have taken a step back to allow the rest in the group to catch up, and then their is our own brutal division. It’s certainly going to be tough to get there, but if we do, you could argue, talent wise, that this would be the best Buccaneer Super Bowl team ever. Yep, even better that Chucky’s.

  15. robert Says:

maybe the O is better than Chucky’s…but the D doesn’t belong in the same movie theater

  16. the_buc_realist Says:

Just wish those pro-bowlers earned that honor here instead of other teams. Well if you can’t draft them, buy them right? FYI VJ our best offensive player will be 31 before the season is over. Just saying………

  17. BKNYfootballhead Says:

Bucs are working out Peyton Hillis today.

  18. Buc'n Junkie Says:

    @robert

We haven’t even played a down yet in the regular season. How can you say that now? This defense may play lights out for all you know. They could set new Buccaneer and NFL records. You don’t know.

  19. robert Says:

    @ junkie…

sure they “could” be the best of all time I guess..

but until then I won’t disrespect the old crew…maybe not disrespect, but you know what I mean.

they have not earned the right to be compared to the old crew

  20. tonytwocents Says:

I truly believe the most feared team in the NFC South this season is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The other teams? We’ve seen em. Theyve done that. We’re a freakin wild card. Recievers?? yeah, we got those. Barry Sand – I mean Doug Martin. A brick wall in front of Freeman, A pissed of QB. And I know we all love GMC, but Im more excited about AC returning. And we all know about our thumpers: LD, Foster, Barron, Goldson.

But I expect Dom to pull of at least one more mid/high profile signing. Maybe a rusher. But hopefully a proven CB.

Anyways, I’ll say it again: “F**k New Orleans! and F**k the F**kin Atlanta Falcons!!! F**k em All!!!! We Bury those Cockaroaches!!!!!”

@robert… This defense will be better than any past defenses.

nowhere to got but up,,,,Huh bobby…. thanks for stating the obvious once again…

  28. Chef Paul Says:

I had $38.52 left on my Bovada account. I just bet it on the Bucs winning the division for a chance to win $192.60. I don’t think it’s a lock or anything, but I’m willing to bet 38 bucks. I would’ve bet more but I’m not robert rich so this is enough

  29. Buc1987 Says:

    ^^^LOL

  30. Bucfan#37 Says:

I’m getting excited about the upcoming Bucs season. I’ve been optimistic for every season since the beginning, making predictions mostly that were far off the actual finish. I can’t make one now, but as usual I expect a great season.
