The 2012 Confusion, The 2013 Difference

June 20th, 2013

Veteran Ch. 10 sportscaster Dave Wirth sat down with Josh Freeman after opening day of his football camp yesterday for an exclusive chat seen in this video. Freeman does perhaps his best job to date detailing why there was confusion on the field at times last season and why he can’t imagine that stuff happening in 2013.

Freeman is brimming with confidence, acknowledges it’s a big year for him personally — “you can’t deny that,” Freeman said — and says he loves the pieces around him and Mike Sullivan.

“Right now physically, you know, mentally, as far as knowing the game, I’m the best I’ve ever been,” Freeman said. “I definitely think it’s going to be exciting.”

    Oooooooooooh, we’re in for a treat this year.

  2. Buc'n Junkie Says:

    Yep, …Josh controls his own destiny. …and there’s a huge carrot waiting for him at the end if he can put it together.

  3. Couch Fan Says:

    It will be exciting one way or another.

    Just win Baby!

  5. RCH Says:

    I think Freeman will have a good year this year.

  6. Dooleymite Says:

    I want the Josh Freeman that put together those ridiculous back-to-back scoring drives @Carolina, all, the, time in 2013.

    super bowl baby!

    I gotta admit, I’m usually not a big fan of Freeman interviews, he seems to stumble over his words and thoughts a lot. This was the most relaxed, intelligent, confident interview I’ve seen from him in a good long while. He said all the right things without seeming to stumble for the thought “what’s the right thing to say here?”. Looking forward to the upcoming season, I think we’ll see great things from him.

  9. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    I agree, BamBam. Kid was oozing confidence.

    Probably the best interview I’ve ever seen him do. And the things he said inspire hope for Bucs fans.

  10. SeanyMac in SC Says:

    I’d take Josh Freeman over Scam Newton everyday and twice on Sunday! I know it still June, but I’m very excited about what the future may bring for the Bucs.

  11. Cody Says:

    Git’er Done Josh; this is the year he proves all the non-believers wrong…

    What we need Freeman to be is both a Game Manager & a Gunslinger and I believe Freeman has the skill set to be both of those things…All we need to do is get in the playoffs; we all know once you get in anything can happen…

  12. Macabee Says:

    Probably shouldn’t bring up a negative, but it is what it is. With Gronk on PUP and out for the first 6 games and Hernandez in deep tapioca, the Bucs could be 4-0 at the bye. The Saints are trying to rebuild a 3-4 defense without the personnel and no solution at LOT, the path looks a lot easier!

  13. Sneedy16 Says:

    @Macabee

    Tom is great QB, but when he has pressure he gets flustered. Getting into rhythm with Amedola will take some time. Some forget that Wes Welker is gone too.

  14. the_buc_realist Says:

    @sneed616
    Who is going to pressure Tom? our no pressure D-line? Tom and Amedola will not gel, But our rebuilt secondary will???
    Luckily Belichick likes Schiano as a prodigy, they will call off the dogs in the 3rd quarter so it won’t look like a blow-out.

  15. Sneedy16 Says:

    @Realist

    Really? Who do they have on offense? Name one person that will do much damage? Like Terrell Suggs said Brady sees ghost pressure when he can’t find people open. The Dline will not need to get to help just pressure him. The secondary the Bucs have will do a lot better than a offense that they is built on passing, but do not have many weapons. They will most likely they will have to run to establish anything. Which I do not see them having too much success doing.

  16. Sneedy16 Says:

    help->him

  17. knucknbuc Says:

    How can you not come away impressed with this interview. Josh looks alot more confident. Hell he’s even showing a lil bit of swagger in this video. He’ll carry it over into the season and hell shut the haters up this year.

  18. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    “Who is going to pressure Tom? our no pressure D-line?”

    That’s a myth. Last year the quarterback was under plenty of pressure…and we didn’t have all our starters in. The only question is Spence, but only because we haven’t seen him play in the NFL yet. If he does well, our Dline could become top ten.

  19. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    And before you mention sacks, which were low last year, I meant that the quarterbacks were under pressure. It doesn’t always equate to sacks. Our guys were a hair slow last year. But like I said…starters were injured. Things should be better this year.

  20. the_buc_realist Says:

    @BuccaneerBonzai
    “Sacks, which were low last year.”

    If that was low, then we have had some terrible years.

    try the last 4 years
    2012 – 27 sacks
    2011 – 23 sacks
    2010 – 26 sacks
    2009 – 28 sacks

    I threw the d-line a bone, giving credit to the dline for sacks by defense. Please don’t act like they would have dominated because the secondary could not cover.

  21. Rahb Says:

    Josh is talented and Genuine. I’ve always been in his corner since day 1. However, the criticism surrounding him is from those who crave an ELITE QB in Tampa Bay.

    Well I believe we will see an ELITE Triggerman this Season who will opt to run once again instead of forcing plays.

    So rejoice Freeman Critics its Elite or Bust and Josh know it, has embraced the concept, and seems poised to deliver

  22. BamBamBuc Says:

    Don’t I know it, realist…. about as bad as 2006 when they only had 25 sacks in Kiffin’s defense and Simeon Rice only had 2 sacks that year (probably coz he only played 8 games). 2nd worst in the NFL. Aren’t you glad Kiffin’s gone? Gruden too, coz we know he only likes offense, probably killed the defense’s sack numbers. Man, this team has been horrible for CENTURIES!!!

    Um, too much sarcasm for you?
