Cody Grimm Arrested For Public Intoxication

May 28th, 2013

Bucs reserve safety/special teams player Cody Grimm was popped for public intoxication over the holiday weekend, per a report by “Reliable Source” of the Washington Post.

(How the hell can one of the most respected papers in America pull a stunt like this with a fake byline on a serious news story? What the hell???)

We’re told that the 26-year-old Fairfax native, once a gridiron standout at Oakton High, was back in the area for a wedding. Town police said the arrest happened at a Hampton Inn at 5:30 a.m. Court records show that Grimm has a hearing scheduled for July 9.

The charge is a misdemeanor — but for Grimm, the matter could be complicated by a previous public intoxication arrest, on March 10 in Christiansburg, Va. That case, records show, was given a “deferred disposition,” which allows prosecutors to drop a charge if assuming the accused fulfills certain promises and stays out of trouble.

Grimm, the son of 1980s Redskins star Russ Grimm, did not reply to voice messages or e-mails. In a statement, Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said the team was “disappointed” to learn of the arrest: “Our players know our expectations on and off the field and we take these matters very seriously. When we feel we have obtained all the necessary information, we will act accordingly.”

Wow, 5:30 a.m.? Must have been a helluva wedding party.

Joe’s not sure how someone can get a “public intoxication” citation twice in a matter of weeks. That’s not a good pattern.

UPDATE: Via the Bucs’ media relations department, Bucs coach Greg Schiano has issued a statement on Grimm’s arrests.

“We are disappointed to learn of this situation. Our players know our expectations on and off the field and we take these matters very seriously. When we feel we have obtained all the necessary information, we will act accordingly.”

As per our standard practice, we let the legalities play out before making a rash decision. If guilty, he’ll probably be released for not meeting Buccaneer Man standards. Past indicates he could be gone.

    Nice knowing you Cody….

    # new Schiano order

Joe’s trying to figure out how someone gets pinched for “public intoxication” twice in three months? Either you are smashed out of your brain trying to walk a sidewalk or you are in the middle of a hassle where cops are involved.

    Just not a good pattern.

  4. Curmudgeon Says:

I guess he was just drowning the sorrow of being like 5th on the depth chart, at best.

  5. Jwayne Says:

It blows my mind every off season seeing how many NFL players get arrested. Apparently all that money cant buy you common sense.

  6. You go Joe Says:

The twice in a few weeks is what makes this worse. To be honest its not a lost if he’s dropped. Kid does have talent just never used it due to all the injuries. But I’d still like for Grimm to be on the team to develop with our coaching.

  7. You go Joe Says:

also this should be an example to not mess up, last thing we need are suspensions for breaking the law.

Good point. Also, two arrests, he is almost assured of being suspended by NFL warden commissioner Roger Goodell.

  9. Raphael Says:

good point Joe, honestly at some point it goes beyond the football player, hope its not a big problem for Cody.

Wrong place at the wrong time more than likely. He’s not the first and he certainly won’t be the last mid-20’s kid to get popped for a public intox. It just so happens that he is an NFL football player. There were plenty of nights when a lot of us should have had them at that age, so let’s not get too self righteous here.

Obviously he was already probably on the bubble, hopefully they let him work through it if they feel he is good enough to make the cut.

  11. Andrew 1 Says:

it already wasnt looking to good for him to make the team so I think with this latest run in with the law he is as good as gone. I dont see how else he makes this team.

    Aloha means goodbye

  13. Hawaiian Buc Says:

When you are a long shot at making the team anyway, about the stupidest thing you could possibly do is get yourself arrested twice in the offseason. I don’t care if you got a speeding ticket, don’t get in trouble! When I played in college, I was by far the least talented player on the team. As a result, I didn’t go to the parties, or get myself involved in anything that had the potential to get me in trouble. My value to the team was to work hard, keep my grades up, stay out of trouble, and be a model citizen. I would have cleaned the locker room if they had asked. Unfortunately, Grimm didn’t realize that, and I would be floored if he makes the team ( I doubt he makes it through OTA’s). I know a lot of people have a hard time accepting the fact that there are different standards depending on the talent of the player, but that’s just the way it is. It’s all about your value, and when you lose value, you have no place.

Grimm’s as good as gone. He’s was already hovering dangerously close to the bubble. This sure doesn’t help his cause.

  15. Paul Says:

I wondered why he always kept getting injured and his play never improved. I guess that’s what happens when you use the offseason for party USA. Good thing that the trash is getting weeded out before our season.

  16. Biff Barker Says:

The outlook is Grimm for Cody.

  17. Macabee Says:

I don’t know what has happened in Grimm’s past, but this sounds out of character for him. This could be a developing personal crisis because of its frequency. Whatever it is, I hope he gets it together.

Grimm was a long shot to make this team before this odd turn of events, given the changes made to the secondary and his personal injury history. I doubt that this is the tipping point. His performance on the field or lack thereof will determine his fate.

I like Grimm and personally feel bad for him given what is occurring. Whatever his status with the Bucs, I hope he gets help!

  18. Danny Says:

Perhaps Raheem will try to bring him up to Washington with the rest of the Bucs castoffs.

  19. tampabaybucfan Says:

Why can’t Myron take a few pills or consume a large amount of alcohol and make a fool of himself. Tnen, just maybe then, we may finally see the end of him.
As for Grimm…he will be an easy early example of how not to act. Easy…..because he is expendable…..a different story if this was Baron.

    Winner.

  22. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I don’t think Cody would have made the team anyway. If he was any good Dominick would not have sought out safety help in Free Agency.

Kid had promise at one point, but his injuries have ruined it for him. This just gives justification to cut the strings…not that the Bucs needed justification.

As to the drinking issue, I’m of the firm belief that any drinking leads to problems. Yes, there are plenty of people who drink and get in no trouble, but they usually end up regretting it later, health-wise.

In this case it was a special occasion, a friend or family member getting hitched. It would not surprise me if these charges are dropped though. Still think Cody should be cut, simply because his roster spot means an opportunity to someone else.

  23. adam from ny Says:

raheem told him to “get himself in trouble a bit and then after the bucs cut him we will pick you up in washington…where ya daddy played and was a star…you will be a hometown favorite here cody…come to the skins”…that’s exactly what codys doing, rather than compete for an ultra limited role in tampa…cody will be a redskin soon enough…adam from ny

  24. Paul Says:

    “Winner.”

Yeah right, “The outlook is Grimm for Cody.” wins, hands down.
