Sapp Wants Western Exposure At 50 Yard Line

May 1st, 2013

Of course Warren Sapp has a strong opinion on not only why he belongs in the Bucs’ Ring of Honor but where his plaque/banner should hang.

Did you expect anything less?

Tampa Bay Times scribe Rick Stroud talked all things Ring of Honor with Sapp and unearthed No. 99’s special request.

“Selmon was the first member of the Bucs’ Ring of Honor at RJS and has been joined by former head coach John McKay, tight end Jimmie Giles and left tackle Paul Gruber.

All those names are adorned to the east side of the stadium. Sapp said he would love for his to be the first name on the west side of RJS.

“You’re going to get me to stir things up, but I’d love to be at the 50 yard and the first one the west side (of the stadium),” Sapp said. “That’s where my mom always sat. And the teams that come into play us will be staring right at it. They’ll be looking dead at it and they’ll know the Bucs are coming right at you.”

Joe wonders whether Team Glazer will honor Sapp’s wishes and award Sapp his own place on the west side of the Dale Mabry Bowl. It is a little selfish of Sapp to want to separate himself from the other Bucs greats.

And we know how Sapp abhors a me-first attitude, considering he recently described new Bucs stud cornerback Darrelle Revis as  “selfish” and “never been a team player.”

Selfish yes! But this is awesome. I support him! Then we put ronde and lynch on his right and left. Lets face it, Sapp is the best player in franchise history. First round pick that went six times all pro+super bowl champ+defensive player of the year=first ballot hall of famer

  2. Walter Says:

    @DJOSHFREEMAN

BROOKS IS OUR BEST PLAYER EVER.

    NOT SAPP.

As for Sapp’s request to be separated, I don’t like it, it does seem selfish.

  3. Biff Barker Says:

How unselfish of Warren to be thinking about Momma.

  4. OAR Says:

My lesbian neighbors asked me what I wanted for my birthday. They gave me a Rolex. I think they misunderstood me when I said, “I wanted to watch.”
Sapp is a lot like me, he’s just misunderstood.

  5. DjoshFreeman Says:

Correction, who’s our favorite player! Mr. Derrick Brooks. He’s our best.

  6. Terraj Says:

I hate Sapp off the field as much as I loved him on the field.

  7. Steve From Oregon Says:

I respected Sapp the football player and had no respect for Sapp the person. This comment is what ive come to expect from Sapp the person, just sad.

  8. Vic66 Says:

The werse one can say about sapp on the field is ,”he brought it like there was no tomorrow.” Sure wish our guys would adopt that attatude.

“Checking 123”. Did you hear that Josh Freeman?

  9. RachelWatson'sthong Says:

They jumped the gun when they put Jimmie Giles in. He was a prototype tight end in a lot of ways but when they put him in the ring it lowered the bar for future entries. IMO. GLad Sapp is getting his recognitions even despite his prickly off field personality. I thought that might hinder his due recognitions wether that be right or wrong.

  10. LadyZ Says:

@ Oar. “Your a bad, bad boy” LOL

  11. Adam Says:

Eh… either way. I want it on the side with all the others so I can SEE the unveiling from my seats during that game.

That speech is going to be money.

… and big-ups to the loud mouth at the Bucs who kept the secret so well guarded for 5 hours. The only worse secret is why Ryan Seacrest can’t seem to find the right girl.

  12. Fritz50 Says:

‘Then we put ronde and lynch on his right and left.’

Seems like a decent idea, with Brooks added, of course. It could end up like East side is ‘Legacy’ players and West side is Contemporary/Championship players.

  13. Picaroon Says:

I like the East/West idea as well. It is a “Ring” of Honor, not a “Line” of Honor.

  14. Karl Says:

That’s where my mom always sat.

  15. PRBucFan Says:

After the way things ended with Sapp it’s the least we could do.

Not to mention you seem to be making it something that its not, instead of him seeming “selfish” he seems like he’s being real and vulnerable about his request and how it has to do with his mom.

  16. Andrew 1 Says:

he was a great player, but man what a piece of work. whatever… if he wants to separate himself from the rest of the bucs so that he can be recognized as being the first name and most important name on the west side of the stadium and feel like hes more special than anyone else, then let the egomaniac have it.

  17. JonBuc Says:

Warren being Warren…at least he’s consistent. No different than ladyZ-z-z insisting that her Jack in the Box employee of the month plaque being hung over the Coke dispenser vs.near the restrooms with the others I suppose…

  18. Andrew 1 Says:

and yea I dont buy that baloney crap about his mother. he knows damn well that being the first name on the other half of the stadium is a very special honor. its not enough for him to just be grateful that he is part of the ring of honor, but noooo, hes got to try and top everyone else while doing it. you can be a great player all you want… but theres something to be said about having a little bit of humility.

sorry had to vent a little.

  19. Andrew 1 Says:

alright, bring on the hate that I know I have coming.

  20. PRBucFan Says:

Good thing it’s not up to us to “buy” anything lol 😉

That’s all the hate you’ll get from me jaja

  21. Steve From Oregon Says:

Im with you Andrew….Imagine him coming out and telling the Hall of Fame where his bust should go.

Warren Sapp is not the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he was an amazing player in the history of the “TEAM”.

  22. Max Says:

selmon is our best player ever followed by brooks and sapp

  23. Christopher Says:

Well, one, him saying that about Revis was a buzzkill, & stupid. Terrible timing.
But two…is he not the 1st Buc celebrated who ACTUALLY raised us to a consistent playoff program, and helped raise a Super Bowl banner? YES, he needs to be separated from the 70’s & 80’s guy. Mach one, & mach two.

  24. Buc Wilder Says:

That’s not a bad idea. It would designate a change in era’s.

  25. Jonny 3.3 Says:

@Walter: Brooks and Selmon were more consistent throughout their career. But in his prime Sapp > any Buc. Also he was the true leader of our dynasty defense.

  26. tampa fan tom Says:

He should get what ever he wants if not for him being on the team we never went to the
Superbowl after he left we could not do crap in the playoffs 55 was great and better off the field but not on it. If sapp was on our team last year were in the playoffs. If it were 55 last year we might make it . But 99 was a game changer.

  27. Mike Hill Says:

the fact that Wilder is not in the ring is a crime

  28. Snook Says:

Wilder and Ricky Bell not in the ring is a crime.

And this pretty much guarantees Brooks as the next Buc in the ring of honor considering this time next year, he’ll be waiting on his HOF ceremony as well.

So after Brooks in 2014, who’s next?

  29. Pete 422 Says:

    Good idea

  30. andres Says:

Love that pic of Sapp LOL and as far as I’m concerned he can have his name anywhere he wants, without Sapp… no Super Bowl. Period.

  31. Steve From Oregon Says:

Your talking about a player telling an organization what to do? The same player that dropped in the draft due to his own stupidity….the BUCS took the chance on him, not the other way around.

Like I said, great…no…HOF player, just an idiot as a human being.
