Barron Agonizing; Revis Hopping And Walking

April 26th, 2013

Joe hates acting like a Nervous Nancy, but Joe must always share what’s on his mind when it comes to the Bucs.

Watching Darrelle Revis enter the field off Dale Mabry Highway and greet Bucs fans last night, walking and bouncing and looking like he might be limping, was a sobering sight. It was simply a cold reminder that the guy’s knee still has a ways to go to be ready for NFL football, let alone dominate.

You can watch the video here. Revis comes out about the 10 minute mark after several other Buccaneers.

Revis’ movements also caught the eye of Tampa Tribune columnist/humorist Martin Fennelly.

“Now, Bucs fans, meet your newest Buccaneer … four time Pro Bowler … three-time, first-team All Pro … your new shut-down cornerback. Ladies and gentlemen … Darrelle Revis.”

Out of the tunnel he walked, wearing a No. 1 jersey, his name on the back. Then he jogged, then he walked, then danced ever so slightly, then he walked. Are you writing all this down?

Yes, Joe knows Revis has about 130 days to prepare himself for opening day, and Joe will join the ranks of Bucs fans praying he doesn’t have a health setback.

Revis also conspicuously was wearing No. 1. Mark Barron has yet to cough up his No. 24 jersey to Revis — and Revis hasn’t picked another number.

Barron has taken to Twitter to agonize over giving up his No. 24 and express sadness about being unable to wear his Alabama No. 4 in the pros. You can follow Barron’s commentary here.

Joe wonders whether Barron is pulling a Revis and cleverly holding out for a better payoff. After all, Revis is taking in $1 million per game.

    meh, didn’t see any limp.

  2. Terraj Says:

A little surprising he was limping after seeing those rehab videos of him looking so strong.

Barron should get 23. Myron Lewis has it now but screw that. If Barron got 23 the Bucs would have M Williams 19, Barber 20, Wright 21, Martin 22, Barron 23, Revis 24. I dont know why that matters but itd be cool

  3. Gusjackson Says:

What if Schiano channels his inner Bellicheat and lists Revis as questionable for every game this season.

  4. Big Rob Says:

I like 44 for Barron. It’s the number he wants twice. I don’t get why he can’t see that.

  5. robert Says:

limping is a huge stretch. maybe walking gingerly……but that aint bad.

you guys do realize he is rehabbing right???? who’s to say he didn’t di 2-3 hours in the gym/rehab today?

hell, it’s a surprise he didn’t have a damn cooler strapped 2 his leg.

I’ve have an ACL replaced, and he looked great! givien the time frame from when he had surgery. and as joe said…130 more days till he takes the field.

    no worries here…

  6. Vic Says:

Think some of that Revis footage on the networks wasn’t all fresh stuff. This video does make him look like he’s favoring, which is ok.

  7. Kennedy Says:

LOL @Robert – You go from saying there’s no limp to him walking gingerly. Make up your mind. The other guys jogged out and Revis didn’t even though he wanted to. That says it all. Just be ready for opening day.

  8. BullDog Says:

    Wonderful

  9. NJBucsFan Says:

I like what Revis said they are calling their secondary…

    The No Fly Zone

If you watch the video with just him he drops that nugget at the end.

  10. TrueBlue Says:

Great, something else for everyone to panic about. If he worked it earlier in the day, it’s not surprising that it could be a little sore. It’s the nature of rehab at this stage.

  11. OAR Says:

I’ve had worse limps from sex!
BTW of course he’s walking gingerly or limping, he’s friggin rehabbing!

  12. andres Says:

@robert I’ll your word for it since you’ve been through it and ignore the Internet doctors an trainers LOL

  13. Teflon Don Says:

I didnt see a limp either

  14. zam Says:

It’s uncool for Revis to want #24 when Barron already has it. You’re going to upset things before you even walk into the locker room?

Be a man Revis and take a new number, jeez. Last I checked Barron was taken with a #7 pick, and the Bucs got you for only a #13 and a box of bagels.

  15. astrobuc Says:

I also would like Barronto take 44.
The safety duo could be known as the young guns.
    38 special and 44not magnum.

  16. astrobuc Says:

    Erase not.
    44 magnum.

  17. OAR Says:

Barron didn’t even want #24 orginally anyways. He wanted his college jersey #4.
I’m sure it’s not a big deal or distraction in the locker room. It happens a lot in the NFL. Some players will pay a pretty penny to have the jersey number they have had or want.
Eli Manning paid kicker Feagles an all expense apid family vaction for his #10.

    oops…paid…vacation

  19. Yusef Says:

I didn’t see anything that indicated that he was limping or anything, yeah he was walking and jogging, so what? we automatically assume he was in pain? stop it..just stop…

  20. RastaMon Says:

Seems like a no brainer for Revis to wear 16

  21. Keith Says:

Revis doesn’t jog in this video at all. …Great sex line above. lol

  22. Mike M Says:

Fennelly needs glasses. I watched Revis and I didn’t see any limp. I think everyone who saw the clip saw what he wanted to see depending on his evaluation of the Revis deal. He will be there on day one and if he is not Dom won’t.

  23. lurker Says:

wow…video of revis in training with todd toriscelli. has some trouble at the 2:37 mark but is doing well and bouncing at 3:07 – 3:15 mark.

“A little surprising he was limping after seeing those rehab videos of him looking so strong.”

Those rehab videos showed him running in a harness suspended from the ceiling and it lifted 30 lbs off his legs.

But I would not worry, the Bucs did a physical.

  25. jpbuc Says:

I wish Barron would take 44 but looks like that’s not going to happen.

  26. gracelivin Says:

@ lurker, your video is of the Apollo 17 moon landing unless Revis was doing a space walk don’t think you got the right link.
