Is A Third Team After Darrelle Revis?

April 17th, 2013

So far, the Bucs, with plenty of cap room to spare, have been the only NFL team seemingly capable of pulling off a trade for Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis. Could there be another team? Scott Pioli, Erik Kuselias and the great Mike Florio discuss in this edition of NBC Sports Network’s Pro Football Talk.

    Who cares… don’t want him.

I just find it hard to believe the Bucs could be that dumb.

There are probably 31 teams that want him badly. The Bucs are the only ones capable of doing it, sans someone doing a ridiculous Ricky Williams draft day deal.

If we can’t get Revis, then I atleast hope we drive that we make the price for the trade skyrockets.

I’m not ruling out a third team that jumps in at the last minute, however, between the salary demands, the draft pick compensation, and the Jets presumed desire to keep Revis away from the Giants and outside of the AFC East, the Bucs really seem like the perfect match.

I’m still down with Tampa acquiring Revis in a trade, although I hope it doesn’t cost the Bucs too many draft picks. I don’t think Revis would get a deal that averages 16 million per season, but he might get 10 or 12 or maybe a large signing bonus, and I’d be okay with that. The Bucs have cap space to spend, and you have to remember that by signing Revis to a large deal, the rest of the league would be forced to adjust when their young CB’s come up for a new contract.

If you doubt me, take a look at the situation involving the Bills and Jarius Byrd. Goldson is an elite talent, but imo, Byrd is the best safety in the NFL. He’s done everything Buffalo has asked him to do over the years (ballhawk his rookie season, improved tackler in year two, a combination of both to elevate him to elite status every season after), and now he’d like to receive a contract that pays him like Goldson got paid by the Bucs.

These contracts can be used by a team with cap space to change the landscape of the NFL. The free agent market this season at CB was/is average at best, no real standout player was available to sign right out the gate. In the seasons to come, elite corners will likely hit the open market, and you better believe these guys will want Revis type money, and there will be teams that acquiescence to these contract demands. All it takes is one crazy deal to throw everything out of flux. Look at the Flacco contract, and keep an eye on the deals Rodgers and Ryan will sign in the coming months. If Josh lights it up, the Bucs better be ready to pay, because if they aren’t, I promise there will be a handful of teams lining up to sign Freeman, including his hometown KC Chiefs.

    Ditka!

Not sure how this makes sense….The Bucs are pushing back about giving up the first round pick because of health concerns, why would two teams with higher draft picks be willing to give it up. The only team that made some sense would be the Falcons in a chips all in move for a one year shot.

Interesting prediction by Florio for the Eagles.

    However…

After the Nnadmi experiment backfire, I’m counting Philadelphia out of the sweepstakes.
