“He’s Not A Bum.”

April 9th, 2013

The JoeBucsFanTV studios were scurrying this evening putting the final touches on this Eric Wright video.

Joe’s pal Justin “The Commish” Pawlowski says Eric Wright is not a bum and Wright’s pill-poppin’ stupidity is the Bucs’ gain. Joe’s not sure he agrees. Do you?

I don’t love Wright, but I agree with the commish. For $1-3 million a year..I’ll take it. Plus between injuries and suspension we didn’t really get to see him in Tampa. If he’s healthy, then he’s servicable.

  2. J 2.0 Says:

A lot of people are now applauding the re-signing of Wright for a $4 million paycut. But just a couple of weeks ago fans were acting as if the sky was falling and if we re-signed Wright it would be football Armagaedon.

I would just like to copy and paste and old post of mine:

I’ve been saying the whole time people need to calm down about not signing a FA CB. Are there better ones than Wright out there? None without question marks.

    Career INT’s:
    Sean Smith: 5
    Rodgers-Cromartie: 16
    Cary Williams: 4
    Keenan Lewis: 1
    Derek Cox: 12
    Antoine Cason: 12
Nnamdi Asomugha: 15 (over 10 seasons)
    Eric Wright: 14

No one really stands out. Also, who has the best CB tandem in the league? Most people would say Seattle right? Who has Richard Sherman before last year? A 5th round pick out of Stanford. Who was Brandon Browner? An undrafted free agent who was 27 years old. We don’t need to act like the sky is falling because Dominik isn’t going out and signing just anyone to a new contract.

  3. Mr. Patrick Says:

Agree with Justin 100% Everyone was soooo excited when he was signed last year. He is as good as any of the free agent guys, just has to wise up. Now draft your 2 corners and tell the Jets to get lost.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Absolutely not a bum.. will play very hard to save his career!!!

  5. FLBoyInDallas Says:

A decent #2 CB without a doubt. Now we need a #1 to go alongside him.

The good news is PFT is reporting his contract is worth a maximum of $3 million for 2013. That’s a hell of a drop in salary, but a huge win for Dominik. Buys the Bucs time to see how Wright plays this year and gives insurance while the newly drafted CB’s develop.

  6. FLBoyInDallas Says:

And Penn was right. This helps the Bucs.

LOVE the video segment Joe/Justin! I’m one of those guys that wants to keep Wright, he’s a pretty young guy with respectful talent (that he hasn’t even nipped!) If we don’t keep him, then we lose all the way around, this case is NOT addition by subtraction.

i agree with the commish on this one Joe….
i’m hoping he is healthy and comes up big time for us,

The fact is that Wright is alot better that what we saw of him last year, that’s why the Bus won’t just let him go. When healthy he is as good as any of the are agents that they could have gone after this year. I am not a big fan of his, due to he’s actions last year but that the Bucs are better with him on the field I can’t argue.

  10. SeanyMac in SC Says:

Joe, thanks for replacing the “Smiling Rah” with the “Angry Greg” pic in the intro. Love these video spots.

ACTUALLY…In the Real World…He is a bum. Leonard Johnson is a better player than Wright…and that was in a year where he was an undrafted rookie free agent. We would have been better off with Johnson if one of them was to start in 2013. Sheldon Brown and Antoine Winfield are also much better players and available free agents…but our “rockstar”, also bum, General Manager is scared to death of anyone north of 30 years old and not named Ronde Barber. Wright isn’t good. Plain and simple. Can’t cover…can’t tackle…Sure he snags a few interceptions here and there…BIG DEAL…If he gets beat for 10 tds and gets 3 ints in the season, we still lost out.
