“Keep Calm”

March 28th, 2013

keep calm

It’s almost like the parade scene in the final moments of the comedy classic “Animal House.”

Bucs fans are outraged as they see rivals sign valuable players who may have helped the Bucs. Whether it is Leon Washington with the Patriots, the Dixie Chicks signing Osi Umenyiora or the Saints signing a pair of understated yet talented cornerbacks, the Bucs, since the first day of free agency, remain quiet.

Yes, the Bucs signed stud safety Dashon Goldson, which was fantastic, but Bucs fans see the crater (not hole) at cornerback and cannot fathom why Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik has not signed anyone with a pulse to play corner.

Ah, such is life in the age of video games and fantasy football where only a click of a button brings you a player.

Yet through the din of pounding fists, like the cop in the aforementioned “Animal House” scene, a voice of reason softy cries out, in so many words, “Remain calm.”

That is the Bucs’ Facebook page.

The powers that be at One Buc Palace have heard the angry, desperate pleas of player transactions and have issued a statement. On the Bucs Facebook page, is a poster of sorts pleading with Bucs fans to remain patient.

KEEP CALM
AND
LIVE
THE
BUCS
LIFE

There is a point to all of this. The draft is less than a month away. The Bucs are five months from kicking off the regular season. There is plenty of time for Dominik to upgrade the corner position as well as the defensive line.

But Bucs fans, this is evidence the Bucs brass hears your cries in the dark of night.

    “…ALL IS WELLl?!?!”

  2. BIG SIR Says:

I thought Leon went to the Pats

  3. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

It doesn’t matter what the Bucs organization says. “Fans” will b!tch and moan because we didn’t sign every free agent on the market. They choose to overlook the fact that the season is in fact five months away. I personally am not a fan of watching all the corners go to other teams but I reserve my criticism until the season actually starts.

Patience. They are asking to at least wait for the draft (not for seasons of rebuilding) to be over before lighting your torches. A request that is actually pretty reasonable.

Oh yeah, and cue Kaput’s comment about the $35 million left in cap space. (But is actually $28 million).

  4. Capt. Tim Says:

” Remain Calm! We are staying the course. Despite your concerns, we are confident that- by seasons kickoff- we will again have spent 72% of the salary cap or less!! We know you are worried, but you can trust your Bucaneers to have yet another successful season of Cap heaven! We will not have to cut players, or face any penalties!”

“Oh, and on a side note- we may win up to 6 games, as an added bonus! Proud to be your Team”

  5. Tim Says:

LOL, guys its a reference to the Chive.

Its a website/phone app with a huge following. Their number one saying and logo is

KCCO or keep calm and chive on

its a wink and a nod to all us chivers.

  6. stevek Says:

    Ok West Coast Bucs Fan,

Thanks for the condolences. I will shut up and be patient and “happy” (or atleast pretend to be for 5 months), and then we go out there and suck it up, I can get as mad as I want.

Why not try being proactive, sign some FA CBs for depth, and IMPROVE this roster.

That is awesome we could sign Dotson for cheap, but why didn’t Biggers get the same deal? Biggers should still be here, so we can cut Myron Lewis.

If Myron Lewis is on the roster in 5 months, I will feel free to pour my heart out about our lack of spending/monetarily “caring” about improving our team. :)

  7. Buc Fan #238 Says:

“Biggers should still be here, so we can cut Myron Lewis.

If Myron Lewis is on the roster in 5 months, I will…” continue to cry like a little b——.

There, I fixed it for your.

You ARE NOT A DECISION MAKER FOR THE BUCCANEERS.

Suggestion: Get a new hobby whine boy.

  8. BOb Says:

its from keep calm and carry on…..it was a propaganda poster produced by the British government in 1939 during the beginning of the Second World War, intended to raise the morale of the British public.

  9. stevek Says:

    Buc Fan 238,

Throw them stones, I like it!

Keep it up buddy, I just want to win, and want to understand that we are in it to win it.

Are we in it at 100% full bore to win a superbowl, because that is what it is going to take.

New hobby will be to carry a dialogue with you.

Are you ok with our team’s preformance over the past 5 years? We finished last in the division in 4 of those years…

Ok, no problem, I can hold in my passion for the Bucs to be the best team in NFL.

Fans don’t buy their tickets because the quality of the product just isn’t there. It isn’t even close, and this looks like a HUGE step backwards (especially when you look at last offseason).

Name 1 good reason why we couldn’t shell out 2-3 million to sign a couple “serviceable” FA CBs?

  10. stevek Says:

    Buc Fan 238,

You can bet yourself that I am not a decision maker for the Bucs.

Myron Lewis would be off the roster yesteryear.

  11. Snook Says:

    Leon is a Patriot.

  12. J 2.0 Says:

Keep Calm and Live the Bucs Life Because We Will Have Revis

  13. kh Says:

The Keep Calm meme thing was played out months ago, but in this case its fitting I suppose.

  14. Kaput Says:

It’s useless talking sense into some of you people.

35 million dollars under the cap after Wright gets waived.

I’m embarrassed to be a Bucs fan.

  15. Westcoastbucsfans Says:

    ^Called it^

  16. Westcoastbucsfans Says:

    @Kaput

There are plenty of legitimate things to complain about. The cap space is NOT one of them. Spending does NOT equal winning.

  17. Jacko101 Says:

The jets have plenty of space to keep Revis if they choose.

  18. lightningbuc Says:

Yes Bucs Fans, remain calm. Never mind that the Bucs are 24-40 after 4 seasons under Mark Dominik as GM. You know what they say – FIFTH times a charm!

  19. dannymac Says:

24-40 they have it all undet control. RIGHT

  20. flmike Says:

24-40 was also the Bucs record the 4 seasons prior to them becoming a consistant winner in 1997.

  21. Capt. Tim Says:

No! HELL NO!! I will NOT remain Patient! Nor will I remain calm!!
They are trying to convince us that Dom has a master plan, and we should trust him. That his not signing any upgrades to players, is because he is a Genius- and knows far more than we ignorant fans!

    BULSH*T!!

All the genius has managed to do, is keep is in LAST PLACE 4 of the last 5 years! He has made us the WORST team in the NFC South last year, and years prior.

LAST PLACE last year!! And the year before. It doesn’t get any worse than last place. It shows no improvement!! It show failure on all levels. Worse than the Panthers! Worse than the Saints! Worse than the hated Dixie Chicks!!
Worst in the the NFC South AGAIN!
    After 5 years of rebuilding!!

    Patience my A**

  22. stevek Says:

Maybe we can all get a bumper sticker from the Bucs:

“I am the proud fan, of the shistiest, lamest, and most medicre team in football”.

This is not hatred, this is frustration with the acceptance of being a “Loser”.

West Coast Bucs Fan: When you draft poorly, you need to fix the hole in FA. Myron Lewis was drafted, poorly for us, he is still on the roster, and despite the 35 m we have hanging around we can’t REPLACE him and CUT BAIT?

What gives with some of the Homers? Are you all on Bucs PR Staff? I love the Bucs, but this offseason is a JOKE.

I have expectations of competing to win, and upholding the integrity of the game to no matter what: put the purest and best effort forth.

I have not doubt that Myron Lewis is trying his best, sadly he is just not an NFL CB.

However, our GM and Owners will sit around and prank call the Bills, trying to trade worthless parts… Why, instead, don’t we CUT BAIT and sign a few CHEAP FA CBs? Oh yeah, because we like to stink.

Please answer that West Coast Bucs Fan, I really want to hear your take on this “Negative” TRUTH!

  23. stevek Says:

Do the Glazers own the Chicago Cubs too?

They friggin should, atleast mediocrity and losing is celebrated up there.

I am grateful to have seen the Bucs of the 90′s and early 00′s, lord knows when patience will bring us back to that….

Good thing our ownership shells out 100% of their possible resources to provide a winner, oh wait wrong Franchise (Man U. 3 Billion Dollar Team).

35 million is a moot point, it is not about the money. This is about: pride, championships, and being the best competitor possible: on the field, coaching, cheering on, and thru strong ownership “support”.

This is laughable, we need to spend on some FA CBs, we let some decent upgrades sign elsewhere, and yet we retain the services of Myron Lewis. I might get a Myron Lewis jersey, Yay!

  24. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

    @stevek

I understand that you just want to win and that your tired of losing. I can tell from your comments that your not all about just being negative. (Like timmy with a permanent knot in his underwear, his “last place” rants are so old already).

With that being said, lets clear up some things first. Those “worthless parts” your talking about are Benn and Blount. I don’t think anyone would argue that they are not “worthless” as Benn has already yielded a 6th round pick. The Bucs never prank called anybody. That whole situation was all on Nix.

Your expectations of winning are definitely reasonable. I am with you there. You have to look at this past season though. We had a first year coaching staff and, regardless of talent, there was no reasonable expectation to have a winning season. We saw a lot of promise in this team last year and they are most certainly expected to deliver this year.

My theory (because I am only a fan) on Myron Lewis is that he will make it into camp and compete and ultimately be cut if he is beat out. The reason for this is that his contract is not a burden and we need corners. Why cut a guy “just because”? Especially at a need position.

“…Oh yeah, because we like to stink.”

I don’t think you actually believe that. No team “likes to stink”. I don’t think I need to go in depth on this.

As far as the Bucs being “cheap”, it is ridiculous. Some people say, “sure we signed Nicks, Goldson, etc but…” How do you right off the best players at their respective positions in free agency? Yes we signed some superstars but <<<<<<< how do you even start a sentence like that and call them cheap?

  25. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t we have to spend almost all of the salary cap this year? I was under the understanding that was the case. I feel the frustration of Capt. and Steve K, I really do. That being said, the season is still 5 months out. This time last year, Capt. (and many others) were singing the same song they are now, and we showed considerable improvement. Obviously it wasn’t good enough, but no one on this board can tell me they didn’t see it. If our QB didn’t have a few game stretch where he forgot which team to throw the ball to, and our CB realized that taking Aderall didn’t actually benefit the team, we would most likely have made the playoffs.

If we have another draft like last year, you don’t think we are going to be better? I just keep thinking that one year we won’t lose critical players to injury. Imagine our OL if Nicks and Joseph are healthy. If we get Revis (which one day we may), don’t you think our secondary will be greatly improved? I just don’t think we are nearly as far away as many of you do. Only time will tell who is right.

But seriously, there really is no point in panicking. I actually fear Capt. Tim is going to have a damn aneurism, and it’s only March (he went from being the biggest homer on this site, to the most negative of us all). Poor guy. Have a little faith that the guys running the organization are better than you. What choice do you really have?

  26. bucfan1015 Says:

How did the bucs finish last in the division this year when they beat the panthers twice?

  27. Stevek Says:

I would like to apologize for the negativity. I am vitally concerned about the style and temperature of our player’s pasta.

I hope we can win this year. I lost my mom to cancer last year, and tend to unleash the fury when “patience” is required. I love my mom, and can not accept loss.

I have lived in WV for 10 years, since living in Tampa Bay and growing up watching the creamsicles transform into champions. I have also admired Greg Schiano do his thing at Rutgers, and it works. Schiano looks like he can’t accept loss, no nonsense, and definitely what the new age (sensitive people) era need.

I miss: the discipline of Dungy, will of Derrick Brooks, passion of Hardy Nickerson, bone jarring hits from John Lynch, and the arrogance (but undoubted talent) of Sapp.

I question the Bucs Front Office, unknowingly, impatiently, and naively. I just have seen this happen for about 5-7 years prior to last year. Bottom line, it is of my “core beliefs” of being a fan, that I: Trust- Dominick/Schiano to drastically improve our team (acquire Revis), Belief- we won’t suffer another 5+ game losing streak for the third year in a row, and Accountability- for all Bucs Brass involved to get some better players.

With that being said, I look forward to the option of being able to draft best player available. I can’t stand the fact of being pigeon holed to take a lesser talented player because of need. That is just down right shameful to the development and “core beliefs” of this team.

I hope we can sign a few CBs, but this feels all to familiar to the 2010 offseason that yielded a punter. By whomever’s decision it was to not spend after the 2010 year, I’d like to personally thank them for potentially forever hampering the development of Josh Freeman. He needs some help.

In conclusion, I hope we can take the BPA/ acquire Revis. Anything less than that should require a nick name change from “Buccaneer Front Office”” to “Alvin Harper’s jock strap”.

“With the 13th pick of the 2013 NFL draft, the New York Jets select…”, would be music to my ears.

If you can’t catch any fish, than you need to pay for the big one. 28% player salary availability should lube the ordeal.

  28. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @SteveK,

Sorry about your loss, and I do understand your frustration. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have flashbacks of 2010 too.

You and I are on the same page with the BPA strategy. I don’t care if the BPA is on offense and we are desperate for CB’s, you still take him in my opinion. Rarely does reaching to fill a position of need end up being a good pick.

One thing about this regime since Schiano took over is that you never really know what they are going to do. Nobody picked us to get Barron last year. I don’t believe any of the leaks I hear, because I believe most are smoke screens. Schiano is very secretive, ala Bill Bellicheat, but I do believe they have a plan. At least I hope so.

  29. Northend Says:

capt Tim,Steven please find another team.u both whine so f$&king much.

  30. Stevek Says:

    North end,

    Suck it.

  31. Raphael Says:

@stevek …I told ya bro…estrogen pills is all need ….and share with Timmy boy while your at it…

  32. Raphael Says:

Lol @ the hysterical crybabies ….

  33. Hawaiian Buc Says:

SteveK is a good guy. He’s by no means an exclusively negative fan. He’s had a ton of positive comments in the past. He has a right to complain, I just think it’s a little premature.

  34. Raphael Says:

4 or 5 months premature …nobody has a right to complain 5 months before the season starts they do it cause they act like spoiled Little kids.

  35. SeanyMac in SC Says:

Love the article and rants….Thanks fellow Bucs fans.

  36. flmike Says:

Hawaiian Buc the voice of reason…
