A New Timeline For Revis Deal?

Who needs Nostradamus when popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve Peter King is in the house?
King, of Sports Illustrated and NBC Sports fame, has penned today in his weekly must-read Monday Morning Quarterback column that he’s confident Bucs-cornerback-in-waiting Darrelle Revis lands with Tampa Bay before the NFL Draft kicks off only one month from today.
3. I think I still wouldn’t trade Darrelle Revis if I were the Jets. And I think New York GM John Idzik will try to find a way to not trade Revis. But in the end, I believe he’ll go to Tampa Bay for two high draft choices sometime before draft day.
Joe can’t exactly take King’s prediction to the bank. As Joe’s written previously, there are financial incentives for the Jets to trade Revis after June 1, and a later trade date also would afford the Bucs a clearer medical picture of Revis. A better understanding of Revis’ recovery from his ACL surgery also would give the Jets more leverage and perhaps make the Bucs more eager to mortgage their future.
It’s just premature to expect the Revis soap opera to end before the 2013 draft. But it’s not premature to hope/pray/expect the Bucs to add quality bodies at cornerback before the draft.

Revis will be a done deal before the draft……we will probably give up a 2 this year & 1 next year for him. We will know if the Jets permit us to talk to his agent before then.
I believe the Bucs know right now that they can have him if they want him. What they don’t know is how much he will cost.

The June 1 deadline is ABSOLUTELY IRRELEVANT for the Revis trade.

If the reports are true that the Jets are so intent on getting this year’s 1st round pick, then it makes absolutely no sense that the June 1st date is at all relevant.

I’m over the Revis saga. As much as he dominates the position, the progress of his surgically repaired knee has got to be a major concern for us. What’s the real reason why NY is willing to trade him away? It can’t be all about the money cause we are also limited to how much we can spend overall. If they believe his future demands will go beyond what they are willing to pay him, and will limit how much they can spend in other areas on the team, what makes us think we can afford to pay him that much without it effecting our distribution of money in the future? Especially since we will have a lot of our own players looking for pay raises in 2014 and 2015. For that matter, what team can afford to put all their eggs in one basket. Ask yourselves this one question, why are there no other teams interested in Revis? Because nobody wants to pay a cornerback, quarterback type money.

I’m beginning to believe the trade will never happen and was put out there by the media and his agent to stir the pot. Move on already! Other needs are gong unmet.

The Jets are in cap hell, they have put themselves into a horrible position, they have to either move Revis before next season or cut more starters, that’s their bottom line, they’re looking for ways to re-structure almost all their major contracts, but Sanchez’ they are stuck with his $8mil plus cap hit for one more season, the truth is Revis will only cost any team $5 million this season, the real money comes in the new contract he wants and the Jets can’t afford to give him, but we can.

Deal will get done, unless the Jets refuse to use common sense. Oh wait dont they have 4 QBs?
The best deal for both teams would be a 2nd and 4th this year and next yrs 1st. That give the Jets 2 good picks this year and an extra 1st next year to help the trade up and snag another bust at QB. Next years draft class is much better and they would wise get next years 1st.

As many teams that are in desperate need for cornerbacks and who also have the cap space, why aren’t they reaching out for the elite Revis? I can answer that, they don’t want to tie up that much money on a CB.

I agree that at this point I would pass on Revis for anything more than a 1st and a 3rd in ’14. I am really skeptical of his knee. Yes, Im aware of all the medical advancements with this specific injury however the rule does not apply to everyone. We can only hope he is ready to go in Sept. The other thing I would say, the QBs of the NFC South are better than the AFC East – the only exception would be Brady and to be frank he is overrated IMO.

I forgot to add that I would make the 3rd rounder conditional on that Revis plays in 80% of the games in 2013 otherwise it drops to a 4-5th rounder based on percentage of games reached.
I like Dominick and think he will get this done in some form or fashion (another CB?). The pressure is all on the JETS. They know they cant afford Revis and to get zero for 1 year of play doesn’t make sense in the end for the long term, which the new GM is thinking long term whereas Ryan is thinking this year or I am fired. I think we could get a good CB in the draft as I like Xavier out of FSU or trade up with Bount to get Milliner from Alabama but that a bit of long shot.

I think the deal will get done BUT if the BUCS give up next years one and two and at the end of the season what happens if they think they nee da new QB ( which lets be honest could happen) how are they going to get one

P.S. that article explains the situation regarding the cap hits relevancy or rather irrelavancy rather clearly.

@Joe: Couldn’t the Jets designate any Revis trade as a post-June 1st transaction, like the Bills did when they released Fitzpatrick?
Personally, I’m fine with trading a 1st and 3rd or 1st and 2nd for Revis. I’d like to be able to split up the draft picks, so the Jets could get the 1st this year and the 2nd or 3rd next year or vice versa. I think (hope) the trade gets done, but I’d still really like to see one more corner brought it by the Bucs.

If the draft is so CB deep forget Revis and draft 2-3 guys. Cut Wright, sign a stopgap vet CB for 1-2 years and train up the new kids.
Everyone saying Revis is worth the picks? Loco.
The trade would cripple the Bucs drafts for a couple years, just like Keyshawn did.
He only has one year left on his contract and the Jets won’t let the Bucs negotiate a new on.
The Jets won’t let the Bucs see the progress of his recovery.
Wven if he got a new contract, he would want a new one the next year and become a locker room cancer.
No on can say we won’t get better or as good as him in the draft. Because you just never know.
