Quincy Black is Gone

Joe takes no pleasure or joy in typing this. None at all.

Bucs linebacker Quincy Black has been cut because of the nerve damage he suffered last year and it is clear he will be unable to return.

Now Joe knows he has been Black’s harshest critic. Until this past season, Joe just could not understand how Black was re-signed by Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik, or was even on the field.

Black, until 2012, was about as invisible of a linebacker as Joe had ever seen. Good running backs, like the Rams’ Steven Jackson, literally ran rings around him. And Joe literally means “rings.” Ever see a guy run around a light pole? That’s exactly what Jackson did to Black, as did other top running backs.

Joe can only believe Black improved because he finally had a defensive coach who had a friggin’ clue. Black’s play was actually decent, bordering on good. Yes, Joe is serious.

Look, if you are an strongside linebacker on the NFL’s top rush defense, you are doing something right. Joe remembers the depressing body language of Greg Schiano when Black was hurt, and Schiano said Black was finally starting to hit the promise the Bucs always had for him.

No player wants his NFL career to end when it does. Father Time is undefeated. But no player, nor any thoughtful fan, wants to see a guy leave the game under the circumstances under which it appears Black is leaving.

    I wish Quincy Black well.

Aside from that, Sean Smith and Brent Grimes are now GONE along with Michael Bennett.

Pull off the Revis trade! Take our chances!

I hope he can recover and have quality of life again.

Joe, is there any news on Roy Miller? Continuity on the d line is a must.

Joe, is there any news on Roy Miller?

No, and don’t expect any for some time.

Miller’s market is very limited. Don’t think he will be signed by anybody this week. He’s like a third- or fourth-tier free agent.

Joe fully expects to see him back with the Bucs. That is not coming from any inside information. Just Joe’s gut feeling.

This really is sad news on Quincy Black as it looks like his football career is over. He really was turning the corner and it is a shame what happen but thank god he didn’t end up paralyzed. I wish the best for Quincy Black and whatever he chooses to do in the future and also wish him good health.

Our first draft pick will be Ezekiel Nana “Ziggy” Ansah if he’s there at 13, if we still have 13.

  19. Paul Says:

Bennett for 5mil/yr, Bucs must’ve really hated him…geeze.

  20. 76buc76 Says:

The Buc’s free agency class is a joke!!!They let Bennett walk for 5M!!!Overpayed for Goldston by a million.Let all these 5M corner’s go leaving them with no leverage in this Revis deal.3M for a backup OLB and crappy WR Olgltree. So know what sign Osi for 7M per for 4year’s.Give Grimes 14M per.Very very disappointed so far!!!!

  21. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Hope he get’s better. Glad he’s gone.

I think Bucs will draft DT, CB, LB in that order.

  22. Paul Says:

He was finally starting to play half decent. Kind of like when they told Sabby to get more physical and he goes out next game and ko’s himself.
