Kevin Ogletree Gives Bucs Depth At WR

As we learned this week in the Deadspin wiretap of Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik, he has been shopping oft-injured receiver Arrelious Benn.
The move today by the Bucs to sign former Cowboys No. 4 receiver Kevin Ogletree seems to Joe that this reinforces the information in the wiretap.
Ogletree gives the Bucs depth at wide receiver. He may be able to push Tiquan Underwood for the No. 3 receiver slot, but per Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News, don’t hold your breath.
Why Ogletree is likely gone: The Cowboys gave Ogletree a chance to establish himself as their No. 3 receiver the last two seasons and both times he has failed to hold onto the job. By the end of 2012, Dwayne Harris had surpassed Ogletree in terms of production and playing time. Though the Cowboys don’t have much depth at receiver, Ogletree isn’t likely to get a third chance at the No. 3 receivers job and, thus, doesn’t add much value to Dallas’ 2013 53-man roster. Additionally, John Garrett, the Cowboys’ tight ends coach and passing game coordinator, was one of Ogletree’s biggest supporters, and Garrett left this off-season to become Tampa Bay’s receivers coach.
It seems Bucs wide receivers coach John Garrett had a hand in this move. If he was Ogletree’s biggest supporter when he was an assistant with Dallass, well, feel free to do the arithmetic here.

MAN WHAT THE F DOMINIK.. GOLDSON WHICH IS A SOLID START, NOW CASILLAS AND OGLETREE? ONE GUY IS SUPER INJURY PRONE ANOTHER CAN’T EVEN HOLD ON TO THE #3 WR ON THE DEPTH CHART? CASILLAS FOR 3 MILL ONE YEAR? F-ING BS! WE NEED A F-ING CB! 2 OR 3 OF THEM ACTUALLY.
I love the bucs and will always be a fan, but I can’t describe how frustrating it is sometimes.. we have the cap room and we sign these two bums, casillas better be STRICLY a special teamer, and Ogletree better be the last WR on the depth chart or not make the final roster.

Just be patient, it’s only been three days since free agency opened. It’s not like Ogletree was signed for 30 million. I’m also hoping for a corner and a veteran defensive end to be picked up before the draft, but it’s way too early to start panicking.

Patience people. This is an absolutely piss poor CB class as evidence by how slow they are signing and how little they are signing for. The supposed best guys aren’t much better than the guys bellow them so there really isn’t much hurry in signing one, especially when we obviously need more than one.
I’m not convinced that this Revis deal is dead, kind of wish it was though. My vote would be to sign some middle of the road corners, save the cap space and wait till training camp to possibly trade for him. That way we don’t use any of this years draft picks, that I’m sure will get used on at least one CB, and we get a chance to see if the knee is good.
With Revis the draft compensation doesn’t worry me cause I don’t think Dominik would give up much right now, it’s the ridiculous contract that I hate.

By the way, the Ogletree signing is actually a good one.
I live in Texas and watch every Cowboys game, he’s a good backup receiver. He makes plays.

Not a huge fan of this move. I rather have seen the Bucs draft a slot WR in the 2nd or 3rd round, like Robert Woods, Stedman Bailey, Quinton Patton, Terrance Williams, DeAndre Hopkins, Markus Wheaton or Ryan Swope. But who knows they might still and use Ogletree as more of a man that has to fight hard for a spot on the roster like Underwood last year.

I actually like the ogletree signing. Granted im just lookin fantasy football wise but he put up some numbers and returns kicks if i remember correctly. Im still wishin wed get at least one corner just to ease my mind a lil bit. Maybe at least jammer, cason, sheldon brown even. Still torn on the revis and grimes scares me. But we gotta get at leaasst one corner in fa and draft one. Wouldnt mind brandon meyers at tight end. But that may just be me bein an Iowan.

If this guy could put up big numbers he would still be in Dallas. Just another mediocre signing that ads some depth but not much more. Hardly a difference maker, probably added just to make the receivers coach happy. Would love to be proven wrong, we’ll see.

There is little doubt that the Dominator is going to make a deal, probably with the Jets. He’s playing cat and mouse. He got the one player we really needed in FA. We may still end up with Bennett, though that isn’t so important. I didn’t see a really good cornerback out there in Free Agency. Each one of them had question marks–and still do. The best bet is Grimes–if he’s healthy–and I think he’ll still be there this weekend. The haters are angry when we get a pro bowl player and pay too much (in their opinion) and then complain when we don’t sign mediccre talent. The NFL is all about talent and coaching. Most of these corners aren’t much better than Biggers and we don’t know how really bad the secondary coaching was last year, and how much Larry Johnson may improve with better coaching and a year under his belt.

Not impressed, if Bucs don’t get Revis and/or Grimes they better hit the lotto in the draft other wise outside of Goldson, this is very I impressive given the team needs. For a team that finished first in the run, they have lost the whole right side of the D, with Black, Bennett and Miller gone. Just a year ago they were the worst in the league at stopping the run, not that far removed.

If so,
Then I really like the idea of keeping extra cap space every year, and accumulating more for the following season.
We should be responsible.
We dont want to get mesed up like the Ravens.
They are done! They are going to need to rebuild all over again!

Josh is a free agent next year, so we are either going to need to resign him, or draft anew one, or sign a FA. No matter what, we will need cap room to sign a QB.
So, no need to be all “jerry jones” and waste money on average FA CB’s.
Revis? Is worth it. Grimes? Maybe.

piss poor free agentcy signing by our front office no way the draft full fill all our needs> we need right tackle tight ends running back slot wr defensive end defensive tackles 2 of them outside linebacker 2 starting corners another corner to compete for depht total ten good players after the fourth round talent gets weak. only thing we did righ was signing a free safety.

Shayne – Who said they were good? If they were, wouldn’t there be more of a market for them? No one exactly clamoring for any of these people. There is a reason the Bucs are focused on REVIS even coming off ACL surgery. Now granted, average players like Sean Smith, DRC etc are better than what we have now, but ultimately guys that actually study film film for a living wanted nothing to do with these guys. That should tell you something more than a knee jerky fan reaction.
