Bucs Making Move On Dashon Goldson

March 11th, 2013

dashon goldson

It appears the Bucs are not sitting on their hands waiting for Ronde Barber’s answer to an invite for one more final year with the Bucs.

Per NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Bucs are making a serious push on stud 49ers safety Dashon Goldson, and with hours left before the free agent siren sounds at 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Bucs are considered a finalist for Goldson’s services.

@AdamSchefter: Four teams – SF, PHIL, DET, TB – in play on Dashon Goldson – but DET, TB considered favorites. TB also in on CBs Sean Smith, B. Grimes, DRC.

It sure seems like Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik is not fooling around. He knows the secondary needs serious, serious, serious upgrades.

To be honest, if Dominik lands Goldson, which would be a coup on the level of signing Vincent Jackson, Joe’s pretty sure we have seen the last of Ronde Barber on an NFL field.

    Make this happen Rockstar.

  2. Raphael Says:

    c-ya Ronde…thanks for the memories..

  3. jvato24 Says:

    30 hours?? Thursday??

  4. BOb Says:

Yeah buddy. I expect to see some serious names called out tommorow.

  5. ElioT Says:

This is better than Christmas Eve! I can’t wait!

    Go Bucs!

  6. Tom Says:

    Go get ’em Dom.

Just be smart, and don’t drastically overpay (a la Eric Wright). If rumors of a deflated market due to cap restraints are true the Bucs money could go a LONG way in securing a number of quality guys for fairly reasonable prices.

  7. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Yeah seriously, your math is way off Joe. Even if free agency did start Thursday (which it doesn’t), that would be more than 30 hours away. It is 17 hours and 20 minutes away, but who’s counting?

  8. Bucs Fan #238 Says:

Wow.. get Goldson, then TWO additional starting CBs?

    Whaaaa??? WOW!

If this were Madden, I would sign 3 CBs, but hey… the top Safety and 2 starting CBs… man I would be PUMPED!

Then go get a LB and DE.

  9. canada buc fan Says:

I love this time of year!!! Any 2 of those 4 would be huge! plus sounds like Derek Cox is going to be a buc. A defensive backfield of Barron, Goldson, Smith and Cox (plus whoever we get in the draft) would be an insane upgrade

  10. jvato24 Says:

IMO Ronde has been.asked.to move back to Nickel back in a reduced role. Wright was supposed to take over Nickel/slot receivers

  11. Bucs Fan #238 Says:

Some of you tweeters need to start courting these top free agents. Tampa is by FAAAARRRRR better than Detroit.

  12. NJBucsFan Says:

Jvato- I agree. Ronde in the slot makes a lot of sense.

  13. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“A defensive backfield of Barron, Goldson, Smith and Cox (plus whoever we get in the draft) would be an insane upgrade”

    ——-

You, me, Capt. Tim, and Joe would be an upgrade over last year. I’m joking…….kind of.

  14. gotbbucs Says:

I posted it on the Ronde story but I’ll say it again here. They bought the offense last year and this year they will buy the defense and draft for offense. With the rest of the NFC South cash strapped and unable to improve rosters Dominik is going to use this year to even the playing field.
We will be connected to every FA corner and safety out there and it’s not going to be smoke screens. Anyone and everyone is in play this year. Whoever they bring in right off the bat for visits tomorrow won’t leave One Buc without a contract signed. Last year should have proved it, Dominik has the green light to make it rain and I think he will right out of the gate again.

I think one or two FA mega contracts right away, work out a trade, and then let the market settle down a little and work some good depth deals later in the week.

  15. canada buc fan Says:

    hahaha I hear you Hawaiian! I run a mean 4.9 -40 LOL

  16. FlBoy84 Says:

Not to be a downer, but wouldn’t be surprised if some of this is agent fueled info designed to work up drama/prices for their clients. Can definitely see the Bucs in on a few of these guys, guess we’ll see in the next few days how it all plays out.

  17. nicknosbest Says:

how about deangelo hall anybody? would be a great veteran piece to have. but good luck to the bucs in whatever they do! anything besides myron lewis, aquib talib, eric wright, brandon mcdonald, lequan lewis would definatly be an upgrade.

  18. gotbbucs Says:

“Not to be a downer, but wouldn’t be surprised if some of this is agent fueled info designed to work up drama/prices for their clients.”

That’s all part of the game, man. Right now it’s all agent and player fueled…….right up until when the pen hits the contract.

  19. Bucs Fan #238 Says:

    Read Goldson’s twitter page.

It seems he is ready to make the move out of San Fran for the big payday. Philly is in shambles, Detroit is… well, DETROIT.

Tampa, here he comes!!! No state taxes baby!

  20. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @canada buc fan,
Okay, you got Julio Jones on an island. I think you’ll be fine.

  21. FlBoy84 Says:

    @gotbucs,

Definitely understand it’s part of the game, and I’m sure there’s some truth to it in regards to some of those players, but I doubt the team’s in on all of them. Would love to see Goldson added to pair with Barron. Add a couple of starting CB’s in FA and draft one in the 2nd or 3rd and defense should see a massive transformation.

  22. Cmurda Says:

@canada buc fan, what are you doing posting on here. We need you to get over to 1 Buc. Pretty sure that would get you at least a nickel slot position.

  23. FlBoy84 Says:

    @Hawaiian,

Who do you think canada is, EJ Biggers? Definitely could be wrong but wasn’t Biggers isolated on Jones the 1st game they played last year?

  24. FlBoy84 Says:

    @Cmurda,

He just needs to change his name to Myron Lewis. I swear when that guy dies, his ghost will still be at 1 Buc.

  25. canada buc fan Says:

4.9?!?!?! are you kidding E.J Biggers isnt that fast hahaha. all jokes aside I actually don’t mind Biggers I think he makes a good 4th, maybe even a 3rd corner. As long as they never let myron lewis near a football again (not that he has ever been all that close to one) we should be in good shape.

  26. FlBoy84 Says:

Not a hater on Biggers either, but seemed like he was consistently targeted week after week. Don’t believe that was by coincidence. If he returned to compete with Gaitor and Johnson for the 4th – 6th CB spots I’d be fine with it. No way any of those guys should be starting though except in dime packages.

  27. Capt. Tim Says:

Hawaiian- roflmao! Hard to be worse than last years secondary.
The thought of signing Goldson, Smith, and Cox is enough to make an old tradition. I have never prayed about football. Hurt players, yes. But it seemed a little frivolous to bother God about a game.

But I’ve been watching that horrible secondary for soooo long, I may have to bend a knee around 4:00pm tomorrow!

Dear Lord, Please help my Bucs improve that terrible secondary! I’m running outta seasons, and can’t bear the thought of watching another year like last year!!

  28. Bucs Fan #238 Says:

Ha ha Capt Tim. At least the good Lord gave us a Super Bowl.

But for a second, what if the Bucs didn’t take advantage of this unbelievable opportunity?

The disgust of NOT signing players in free agency this year would be nightmarish.

So, here’s to getting some starters in a deep CB free agent market this year.

Unlike any other year, I have not seen teams dumping starting CBs like this year. It’s as if they know, they see that the market is so deep that they can all collectively take full advantage of this re-calibration of the CB market. And it makes sense, because now that this is a passing league and the NFL won’t allow any contact down the field, CBs are just not worth what they used to be.

Even the great one’s get burned now. Did anyone see Flacco just throwing darts downfield, balls going uncontested because these DBs can’t touch anymore?

But at any rate, what we had last year was GARBAGE. So we should upgrade now, while the opportunity presents itself.

Afterall, imagine needing a DE this year? There are only 2-3 decent ones… and they aren’t exactly beasts.

  29. Andrew 1 Says:

    dont count your chickens.

  30. Andrew 1 Says:

    just sayin.

  31. Dave Says:

Goldson ak thee with Barron and Smith or Grimes with a rookie and Biggers and others firghting for the 3-4 slots…
    MASIVE improvement.
That alone should increase the sack totals by 5+

  32. BigMacAttack Says:

San Francisco plenty of gangs, crime and your gun is locked in a safe in your house. Detroit, the second coming of Hiroshima Bombing with crime only worse in Chicago, need body armor to pump gas. Tampa Bay, gun on your hip and you most likely will never need to use it. Not only is the Weather better but it’s safer and no state income tax.

  33. Andrew 1 Says:

even though I would consider myself a pretty knowledgeable football fan, I will admit Ive never really heard off this Dashon Goldson. but off watching some of his highlights… Damn the kid is a beast!!! reminds me of Barron.

  34. Cmurda Says:

@BigMac Haha, well said! Right on the board I’ve found a nickel corner and a recruiter. The best is yet to come when we actually get real free agents.

  35. Andrew 1 Says:

did he do anything in the Super Bowl?

  36. Cmurda Says:

Goldson is 100% beast. I’m really watching this development like a hawk, sweating it. This would be an enormous lift to our secondary.

  37. canada buc fan Says:

    Cmurda

Your doing well. Maybe the Rockstar needs a new lead guitarist?

  38. Cmurda Says:

    Done

  39. Bucs Fan #238 Says:

After we sign Goldson, and 2 starting CBs… plus others.

For the draft, I would seriously reach for Jesse Williams, DT Alabama.

The guy is a beast and much more of a sure bet than the guy from Utah with a bad heart.

How do these draft pundits have a guy from Utah and Missouri ranked ahead of a DT from Alabama is beyond me. Watch Williams move up the draft board over the next 8 weeks.

  40. Andrew 1 Says:

^^^ yea those bama boys can really play. I wouldnt mind drafting anyone from the 33rd in the NFL.

  41. Andrew 1 Says:

    * 33rd NFL team.

  42. Hawaiian Buc Says:

If we could fix up our secondary in free agency, we could truly draft the best player available (offense or defense) in the draft. I would guess it’s a whole lot easier to draft when you don’t feel the necessity to reach to get a certain position.

  43. Cmurda Says:

Lets not getting crazy here Hawaiian. Basically our front 11 was weak. Yes, I said 11. Thats how bad our defense was. We need a DE and could use a DT or LB really 2 LBs. Take your pick. We have enough needs to be sure that our early picks fill needs as well as value.

  44. @MikeInTampa2 Says:

I’d much rather have FS Glover Quin <——————-

  45. DallasBuc Says:

Everybody running around like money is no object. Glazers opened the satule because they trust the good intentions and vision of dominik. If he goes all Bruce Allen with their birthright he will pull the cord.
A play for goldson and the high coin he commands fits the vision. Makes a statement with satule, sack and attitude. Make it happen

  46. gorillapimp Says:

The way I see it most of these sons of hoodrats come from down south. I’m sure they’d love the home cooking and abundant availability of hoodrats to mate with. Tampa has a percentage of loud mouthed baby mamma’s swollowing up athletes for child support. I used to run a gang of those hoes out of the dollhouse down to the stadium to collect that paper from those big spending ballers. Most of those simps fall in love with the hoes and end up getting billy jeaned by these chicks. Sign that contract and trick all your money on my girls

  47. Greig Says:

This doesn;t really have any impact on Ronde coming back.
We needed an upgrade at S next to Barron so why not get the best young one available?
Even if this doesn’t happen & Ronde comes back he’s likely to be a hybrid CB/S nickel (rather than “starting safety”) that see’s the field more often than not due to the way the league is set to be a passing league now.

  48. Paul Says:

Adam Schefter always gets the scoop.

  49. BigMacAttack Says:

    @GodzillaPimp,
    Hey Bum, get a job!

  50. Sneedy16 Says:

    @gorillapimp

WTH are you talking about? Just came out of nowhere with that. Go post that on Worldstarhiphop and leave this to Bucs fans.

  51. gorillapimp Says:

You squares think those Bentleys parked out front of the dollhouse don’t belong to some of you favorite ball players then you Bobby Brady jock sniffers need a lesson in reality?@sneedy16 I’m talking about pleasure and for the right price you can experience it like these here boys your chasing after are top of the line!!!

  52. gorillapimp Says:

@bigtmacattack your probably one of those big ole sloppy drunks who hasn’t been near a woman since your mother threw you out of her basement. You might be able to get some if you let go of the bottle, shed a few hundred pounds, and took a daily shower yeah anything is possible and for the right price I can make that happen. Talk back to me Big Mac
