The “Custodian Of Canton” Speaks

January 31st, 2013

Taking a break from working feverishly to fine tune his Warren Sapp pitch to Hall of Fame voters on Saturday, eye-RAH Kaufman, Tampa Tribune NFL writersat down for his annual fireside chat with Steve Duemig this evening on WDAE-AM 620.

As always, this was must-listen radio. Kaufman dove into all things Hall of Fame, Bucs and NFL.

Kaufman, known as the “Custodian of Canton” among some in the national media, is charged with making the case for Sapp to Hall voters. Sapp, in his first-year of eligibility, is a finalist in a very tough field.

Enjoy.

I loved Sapp,my favorite Buc of all time, also the best player at his position of all time. One HELL of a football player who had a hunger and passion for the game that was unmatched and certainly wasnt afraid to speak his mind or stand up to anyone, even if he wasnt always politically correct.Sapp is OLD SCHOOL baby and I LOVE it.He needs to be in Canton!!!!

I think Ira will vote for Sapp. Yasinskas said, off-field antics aside, he would probably vote for him. If they go strictly by his accomplishments, I think he gets in on the 1st ballot. However, there is deserving competition too, so I won’t be upset if he doesn’t get in this time! Rest assured, he will get in one day!

    NNNNNOOOOO! You think???

That’s like saying it’s possible the guy who nominated Obama for President at the Democratic National Convention may have voted for Obama over Romney.

    Geez, Ira is presenting Sapp!

  4. Macabee Says:

Thanks for the reminder, Joe, completely forgot about that little ceremonial event. With that I feel safe in changing my “I think” to “I’m pretty damn sure”. lol

The NFL is still looking and waiting for the next “Warren Sapp”.

Sapp is a 1st ticket hall of famer, no doubt.

He attitude and mean streak helped form him into the player he is today.

Ty Cobb was a 1st ballot HOFer, and he even went up into the stands and offed a fan.
