“The Dini,” The “GameWrecker”

January 27th, 2013

When the Pro Bowl kicks off at 7 p.m. tonight, Joe knows there are still plenty of Bucs fans who will be wondering what voters Gerald McCoy paid off to get him there.

But thinking, sober Bucs fans know better than to doubt the validity of McCoy’s honor.

Could McCoy be a better player? Absolutely. Is McCoy worthy of the Pro Bowl? Joe will let Falcons head coach Mike Smith explain, via a new feature from Woody Cummings, of The Tampa Tribune.

Falcons coach Mike Smith, who like Rivera has the chore of game-planning twice a year for McCoy, has a nickname for players who consistently impact plays: Game Wreckers. Smith used the term repeatedly in talking about McCoy during a break in Senior Bowl workouts last week in Mobile, Ala.

“He’s the type of defensive tackle you would definitely call a game-wrecker, and as such he’s the type you have to make sure you have a specific game plan for,” Smith said. “He’s just so good at disrupting your plays. We have a number of them on film, both against the run and against the pass.

“He just creates so many issues for you, whether it’s forcing a back to start and stop and redirect or affecting the quarterback. What he does is slow everything down and disrupt things so that the linebackers and the other second-level players can come in and finish off the plays.”

Panthers coach Ron Rivera also goes into explaining McCoy’s value in the feature story. Joe heard the comments from opposing coaches all season — McCoy is a menace more times than not.

Now the real mystery was what McCoy was doing holding Doug Martin over his head at the Pro Bowl (see previous post below). That question is answered in this fun Hawaii video below from NewsChannel 8, whosecured footage of “The Dini” treating the Bucs’ rookie stud like a toy.

There’s a 3 minute video about McCoy at the Pro Bowl on NFL.com. It shows why he picked up Doug.

i wish you would retire that picture of him

  3. Brad Says:

Can someone give Ian a clue who acts like he’s the king of analyzing defensive players and lineman more specifically. Ian and Shaun Ling should get radio shows together and talk all negative subjects about the Bucs. Neither have anything good to say about the team.

  4. raphael Says:

LMAO @ the 2.2’s and other uneducated football morons…..ie; haterz

  5. BigMacAttack Says:

It’s hard to argue with opposing coaches. GMC is a gentle giant and as good hearted as it gets. He belongs there and is surely making the most of it.

Someone has to get the party started and he’s it, which in turn helps the team get some new love.

I think it’s funny that even refs are hating refs now.

  6. RachelWatson'sthong Says:

    Rivera doesn’t coach for ATL.

  7. Ian's Gay Lisp & Ron's Drinking Problem Says:

i was just happy Gerald answered my question LIVE On-Air

  8. ShayneGoodfellow Says:

Hahaha good stuff posting this link Joe, pretty funny. GMC is a great character and i’m happy to see him finally in a pro bowl after surviving a full season and playing some solid football. I did get a bit scared there when D-Rex got off his back, kinda jumped off.

  9. Have A Nice Day Says:

McCoy makes everyone else looks so small lol He put on so much muscle since he was drafted.

  10. JobBucsFan 1.5 Says:

Gerald has such an infectious demeanor. There is no wonder the Bucs locker room with players like Gerald, V-Jax, Nicks, etc… get along so well. A happy team leads to cohesion and the recipe for future success. I wonder if players like Revis, who are portrayed to have bad boy images, came to the Bucs, could help but fall in line with his new teammates or would they disrupt the harmonious attitude in the locker room. The one bad apple syndrome.

Ians Gay lisp,is that your real pic.if so you are beautiful.Bucs will win the Super Bowl next year ,everyone remember who said it before the season evan started.

  14. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

Buco, you should take your enthusiasm to Vegas, you can probably get 2000/1 odds with a $100 minimum bet.

As for Dini, a wise man once said, “You can’t play hard if you live soft.”

5 sacks gets you into the Pro Bowl, what a joke.

  15. Saskbuco Says:

Miguel once again your football knowledge and overall IQ astound me. DTs greatest stats are those ones not on the stat sheet, disruption and penetration. DTs are supposed to get double digit sacks like a DE, you know DTs are in the middle and DEs are on the ends?? Also not sure why you support the bucs when almost all of your posts are negative and your overall distain for almost all things bucs.

  16. Westcoastbucsfans Says:

Lol @ Miguel knowing better than NFL head coaches! YOU are the joke!

Congrats Dini! Wonder if you will make multiple pro bowls because of your “personality”? You and 2.2 are hilarious.

A wise man also once said,” it is better to keep your mouth closed and look like a fool than to open your mouth and prove it”.

  17. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

I’m watching the Pro Bowl right now and GMC is taking most plays off. Embarrassing. He did make one tackle when his team mate went to play for the AFC, snapped the ball to Manning and then refused to block anyone. It was bizarre and surreal at the same time.

On a positive note, Vincent Jackson is having a great game, he looks like a grown man playing with little boys. Doug Martin stole a pass intended for the tight end for a touchdown.

Does anyone think Gerald gets voted MVP for all that disruption and penetration but no real stats?

  18. ShayneGoodfellow Says:

V-Jack GMC and D-rex all had solid games in the pro bowl!

  19. ShayneGoodfellow Says:

    @Miguel

GMC had a fumble recovery, and when he was going hard, he was getting solid penetration. Who cares if he wasn’t going hard, many of them were this time around, dont want him to get hurt!

  20. rickster Says:

    V jax!!!
You see what happenes when Jackson has a good qb….

  21. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

If Brees could throw to Jackson every Sunday, he would get 3,500 yards and 30 TD’s.

Dini tripped and fell flat on his face when Luck fumbled the snap and kicked it to Gerald. Look at the above picture to see the surprised look on GMC’s face when he saw that incredible gift.

  22. BigMacAttack Says:

The Lightning are kicking A$$. Game after game, looking better and better. Everybody is scoring goals for this machine, and few empty seats in a beautiful arena. Hmmmm???

  23. Sneedy16 Says:

    @Miguel

You are a funny guy. Not once ounce of criticism for Chip Kelly but any dealing with the Bucs you can go all day. Can you just have a day where something good comes out? Taking plays off? What do you expect they were up by almost 30 points.

  24. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

I didn’t see Jason Pierre Paul take a play off. Too much pride in that man.

It’s hard to criticize a coach who doesn’t have a blemish on his season or his career. This year he missed the National Championship on a play similiar to VJax’s 95 yarder. Mariota was racing down the sideline for the winning TD against Stanford with the Black Mamba as a blocker, side by side. Instead of falling back and sealing off the field, he decided to race ahead and beat him across the goal line. Mariota was caught from behind and the Ducks didn’t score.

Many coaches would whine and complain about the immaturity of his player and heap all the blame on him. Not Kelly, he never acknowledged that play or injuries that hit the team hard.

He will be a great success in Philadelphia because he will win and never blame anyone but himself for any failure. Players will respect him and play their hearts out for him. He will never have to weed out the malcontents every season because he will coach up all of the players, all of the time.

  25. Sneedy16 Says:

Were we not watch the same Pro Bowl? JPP was standing on some of the pass plays. You try your best to find fault, but no real truth. The guy never coached a down in the NFL but he sounds like he is HOF material. I will like to revisit this after a season. Who knows maybe Chip will succeed or maybe his scheme will just suck time will tell. Like I said before you don’t find faults because you are totally bias that’s all.
