Four Sacks And Hustle Will Earn “Te’O” An Offer

January 24th, 2013

If you’re young and you can rush the passer, you get paid in the NFL. It’s really that simple.

So it’s no surprise that Bucs rockstar general manager Mark Dominik is planning to slap a significant restricted free agent tender offer on Daniel Te’O-Nesheim, who filled in at defensive end for Adrian Clayborn and proved solid against the run and pass. Snatched by Dominik from the Eagles’ practice squad, Te’O-Nesheim is was the Eagles third-round pick in 2010, and recorded 40 tackles and four sacks in 14 starts for Clayborn.

Tampa Tribune beat writer Woody Cummings delivered news of the Bucs’ postseason approval of “Te’-O.”

Dominik indicated this week that he may offer Te’O-Nesheim a second-round tender – or maybe even a first-round tender – to ensure he retains a player who has proved to be a valuable member of the defensive line rotation.

Joe’s all good with this. Te’O stayed healthy and has a big motor. He’s just fine to rotate in, and he should have more upside at 25 years old.

Last year, a second-round tender paid $1.9 million. If the Bucs slap that tag on “Te’-O,”  another team would have to pay him at least that much and give the Bucs a second-round pick. Joe can’t imagine any team paying that high a ransom for a solid reserve.

    Need much improved pass rush or 2 Darrelle Revis’s won’t matter (Bucs are LAST in NFL in Sacks over last 2 Years)

  2. Legarrettes Blunt Says:

    All of Teo’s sacks came on stunts when the offensive line simply made mistakes and didnt pick him up. He never showed any freakish pass rush moves. He would get no penetration in one on one situations, he would get owned most of the time. Why are we so high on this guy? I like him as a reserve but a 1st round tender? Please

    @IGLRDP

    With 2 Revis’s, we’d have coverage sacks all game long. With a better secondary we would have more sacks.

    @JobBucsFan……good point.

    As long as he doesn’t have an imaginary girlfriend, like his cousin Manatee’o, re-sign him.

    IaN we are near the bottom but not last this year but your point is still valid

    A 3rd round tender would be plenty. No team is going to give the Bucs a 3rd round pick for T’eo. He’s solid depth but Dominik doesn’t need to play it safe with a 2nd round tender offer. Personally I’d take a 3rd round pick for T’eo all day long. Not knocking him, but that high of a pick could significantly help this team.

    @Jacko101…thats why i said “over the last 2 years”……..fyi: ANYONE who thinks we should draft DE Dion Jordan is INSANE!!!! His weight dropped down to 226 Lbs during the season.

    I think the fact that Teo was able to get some numbers are more a reflection on just how well McCoy played this year.

    @ Mavesmoney

    thats a very astute observation. McCoy was commanding alot of double teams last season so if we had a player even more talented than N Teo his numbers would have been even better. Just think what another dominate DT next to McCoy would do. I think it would do wonders.

    I think the main reason why we are last in sacks is because our DL hasnt learned how to play as one yet. They all seem to be doing there own thing out there and havent yet had the time or experience to play as 1 collective unit. My point is they are playing as individuals and not as unit. I read an article awhile back from Brad Culpepper who said much like an offensive line plays as a unit so must the defensive line play as a unit. Like 4 guys in an a dark alley fight. I think once they learn how to do that they will be damn good.

    You are correct they need to develop chemistry. This is one full year playing together so they were probably going on the fly.
