Bears Take Extended Time With Sullivan

Mike Sullivan can ramble on a topic with the best of them, so Joe’s not too freaked out by this report. However, it does have an ominous vibe to it.
Former Giants beat writer turned USA Today NFL writer Mike Garafolo is Twittering that Sullivan had an extra long interview for the Bears head coaching job earlier this week.
@MikeGarafolo – Sounds like Mike Sullivan and the Bears had a very good meeting the other day. Went six hours, about twice as long as expected.
Joe’s not surprised that would be an engaging candidate. Flashing Super Bowl rings and presenting his years as an Army Ranger and familiarity with a tight ship under Tom Coughlin and Greg Schiano likey would peak the interest of any owner in need of a head coach.

It’s ok, if he goes it will give all the Freeman lovers another reason to excuse his poor decision making.

Ok, now the Bucs need to step in and offer an extension.
There needs to be a new NFL rule that says coaches work a minimum of 2 years with a team before they can voluntarily leave for another position at another team. It hurts too many people on too many teams with instability.

I would literally laugh if the Bears made such a stupid decision as to let a coach like Lovie go and replace him with such a… inexperienced guy. That’s no knock on Sullivan.. but what has he really done to disserve a head coaching job yet? That would be an insane hire by the Bears with all the other experienced candidates out there.

I live in Chicago and would be very surprised if the Bears seriously consider Sullivan. He hardly gets a mention on the local sports talk shows here, in fact it was reported yesterday that Sullivan was the New Orleans OC!

I’m with you on this one all the way. I think Sulli is definitely an up and comer, but I think he is still a couple years away. Everyone gets promoted to their level of incompetence and that’s when things turn. I think Sulli would be wise to be patient until he is totally chomping at the bit for that job. I don’t see that yet with him and it could ruin his career by jumping the shark so to speak. Whatever happens, I like the guy and wish him the best, but I’m a Buc’s fan and want what’s best for us.

Hiring Sullivan would be like the Bucs hiring Raheem a couple years ago.
If the Bucs don’t have the sense to hire Chip Kelly, then they need to bring in Norv Turner as OC and assistant Head Coach. They need a field general to lead this team on the field.
The Little General can march around the side lines raging at officials, players, coaching special teams and collecting fines.
If Rod Marinelli can be hired get him, he’s a great coach. Promote Bryan Cox, fire Sheridan and the DB coach.

The Rah comparison is exactly what went through my mind as well. It’s pretty much the same exact situation. Old experienced good coach gets fired, and they bring in a positional coach with no/very limited experience as a coordinator.

Sulli’s offense is much to complex for Free Free and clearly apart from the big arm plays to his weakness’s.
Might be best for Freeman that this happens lol…
