It is the last game of the season. There will be no playoff games, no January games. The Bucs took care of that by tanking the past month.
But there are questions that the Bucs need to have answered today, if not Bucs fans.
* How many interceptions will Josh Freeman throw today?
* How many yards will the pass defense give up?
* Will the Bucs own the disgusting title of the worst pass defense in the 93-year history of the NFL? They only need to cough up 252 yards for such a distinguished title.
* How many sacks will Michael Bennett get? For every sack he racks up, for every tackle he makes, the cash register at One Buc Palace rings.
* What will Ronde Barber do? If this is Barber’s last game, Joe would love to see him get a pick-six.

If you think about it a little, this game really does mean more to ATL….I mean, would you want to go into the playoffs with a loss against the Bucs. I think that would be psychologically damaging to a team that still doesn’t really know how good it is. Yes they will have a week off, but after that will likely play Seattle or SF, and will need all the momentum it can get.

ATL should be giving it a lot to win this game, particularly when they are trying to overcome an ongoing history as post season chokers. But than that is why folks are talking about SF, Seattle, and GB as contenders and ATL hardly in the conversation.

No one EVER said Freeman doesn’t have great games, so I don’t know what the homers are spouting off about. The problem with Freeman is his inconsistency. For every game like this where you love him, he has one or two more game where you hate him. That’s the problem. Potential means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING unless you can do it week in and week out. Period.

bwall…I think this offense, with a healthy line, could be as good as that Offense was. That offense was more consistent and mature, so it is hard to compare.
But this defense isn’t even a shadow of that D. Does that give our current O more or less time with the ball and more plays or not? After all, the current D has given up so many more big plays, I’m not sure. Our O might have actually had more plays and possessions this year.

Lurker…it didn’t have a pro bowl player on it. Oben, Walker, Cristy, etc.. Like I said, this present line when healthy, is much more talented. Of course, having a seasoned Vet can make up for alot of weakness in an O line. If they are good enough like Rodgers, they can make any line look multiple times better than they are.

BucNeck…does giving up pick 6’s and other turnovers enter into your equation? Most points are great stats. But if you put the D in bad positions twice as much as another offense, it makes a big difference as well.

Do you remember the Dallas game? By far our best defensive performance of the year, we killed Romo all day. But the fact Freeman only had 37 yards going into the 4th quarter is the reason we couldn’t do anything all day.
In the Atlanta and Philadelphia games, if Freeman hadn’t shown up for just 1 quarter of play, we could’ve easily won.
We could’ve won several more games if Freeman hadn’t stunk it up on the field so many times.

I’ve been less critical than about 95% of Bucs fans. Never talked about getting rid of him. Worst thing I said is bring in some reasonable competition rather than a multi-team retread.
If you have been around enough, you know Warren said, give me 14 points and don’t give up touchdowns on Offense. And as some have said, consistency is the key. To get to the playoffs and win in the playoffs, you can’t have multiple turnover games, whether you are Josh Freeman or Matty Ice. And until Matt Ryan, Cutler, Stafford, etc.. proves they can string more than two games together in crunch time, they have proven nothing. That is what Rah meant in saying that stats are for losers.

The problem is that in two or three years, the rest of this team should be ready for a real run….assuming Josh is what we think he can be.
If not, you are basically hoping you can sign a FA vet with some question marks due to injury or whatever, or starting over again at the QB position…hoping a mid first or second rounder can do what some rookies have done this year. But here again, we will see who can play consistently for three or four more games or if one or more of them folds in the playoffs.

– I thought this victory wouldn’t mean much for our team but I think I’ll take that back as far as our defense is considered. To finish with great performance against their starters and with a defensive stop is a big deal. Also for Dougie to finish strong would be nice.

I like the way our defense finished the season looking like they were “getting it”. That’s a good sign. I can live with a lower draft pick now that these guys have showed some fight.
