Enough Of The Lob Pass To Nowhere

December 23rd, 2012

Yes Josh, Joe feels your pain with those errant lob passes to Mike Williams in the corner of the end zone.

Like Bucs fans who always have to have a player to hate, whether it is Sabby the Goat or Barrett Ruud or Gerald McCoy or E.J. Biggers or Myron Lewis or now, incredibly, Josh Freeman, Joe must have a Bucs play he hates.

This is usually reserved for the world-renown Benn’d Around Play, a play that stunningly reared its ugly head again this year and only vanished from the Bucs playbook when Benn landed on injured reserve.

Well, Joe has a new play to hate. And that’s the lob in the corner of the end zone to Mike Williams.

It failed. Again. Three times by Joe’s count today. Perhaps more.

To execute this play, the quarterback, in this case, Freeman, has to have touch on his passes. Right now, the only touch Freeman has is when men wearing different colored jerseys have their fingers around the ball.

Rather than throwing away precious plays in the red zone, maybe it’s time to try a run with Doug Martin or a pass over the middle to Dallas Clark (who made a sick one-handed catch today), or even something to Vincent Jackson?

Corrupt that Williams play on your iPad, Bucs coaches. Delete it from your hard drives. Purge it from your memory.

Unless or until Bucs offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan has Freeman straightened out, that lob pass to Williams in the end zone should be an afterthought.

Somebody should LOB Gosh Freeman to nowhere where he can never come back.

  2. Reality Check Says:

I was irate when they ran it the first time and josh threw it out of bounce. Then they did it AGAIN. It’s just not a play. Period. They didn’t even attempt a quick hitter slant or anything similar. Also, why can’t we have a QB run option in our playbook. RG3 took that one to the house TWICE against us.

  3. loweredexpectations Says:

    the lob, yes.

the back-shoulder… definitely NOT. that play is money inside the 10 yard line.

  4. tim Says:

Believe i said this exact thing in another post earlier. Or I was at least thinking it(I usually erase what i type out 2-3 times) But I agree with Joe on this. That play just leaves no room for error right now. And with Josh being a bit off its just a lost play. I dont think they went to the middle of the end zone at all today.

  5. Ian's Gay Lisp & Ron's Drinking Problem Says:

we dont have a red zone Tight End nor a Slot WR. So we are limited. (we still have $16 Million in Cap Room. That would have really helped to “do whatever it takes to WIN” ….per the Glazer Gaggle <———-

  6. JJ1977 Says:

is anybody watching Joe Flacco play

  7. FloridaGirl Says:

Dear Bucs PR department: PLEASE teach Freeman how to do an interview. Regardless of how ‘frustrating’ (used15+ times) it may be, use words to express frustration….not the shound ‘ psheessss……and take responsibility. Instead of taking ownership of his play AKA interceptions..Freeman acknowledged that it was, again, ‘frustrating’….not that he sucked colon, playing poorly and throwing another 4 picks in the second consecutive week……..COME ON MAN!!!!!

  8. MadMax Says:

um, why are my posts not posting?

  9. MadMax Says:

    ok

Alright, first of all, gus and ralph need to go blow each other since this place has turned into a dating site for the two of them.

And now Im changing my mind about using our 1st rounder on the best CB available. Look at Luck with a gitty D, and he’s taking them to the playoffs.

Throw everything including the kitchen sink to get Geno Smith! If it cant play out that way, then go after Aaron Murray or Mike Glennon!

  10. PRBucFan Says:

MadMax the more you type out that nobody’s name the more you validate his childness. I’ve decided I will never acknowledge him again. If no one responds to him he’ll eventually go away.

  11. greg slother Says:

Rajah you have his name wrong its Lost Freeman…he’s f..ing clueless

  12. MadMax Says:

But he’s that gnat you just cant smack yet. Trust me, I know. But he’s also outnumbered and hopefully he will change his tune.

  13. REDDMAN Says:

Agree Joe, but it’s not just the red zone and it always helps if the QB can keep the damn ball in bounds. Seems Freemans favorite play is to throw it up and hope his guy can make a play on the fly ball. Back in 2010 Williams and Free hit a bunch of these, 2012 not so many.

  14. CC Says:

    Play calling sucked.

  15. CC Says:

Enough of throwing off your back foot!

  16. SteveK Says:

Draft TE from Notre Dame and Tavon Austin. Gonna have to grab Tacon like we did Martin.

Add those two to the mix, go D the rest of the way, and add some FA CB’s +Best DLineman available.

  17. SteveK Says:

If San diego cuts rivers, we should sign him and Norv. Get the best offense in football.

He has been doing it since college…. An ant will never become an elephant… He is in over-his-head…. He just isn’t qualified or capable!

  19. PRBucFan Says:

Nah we have to di whatever possible to draft Dee Millinar

  20. free's a boob Says:

    Watch Wilson..a smart fearless QB

  21. Eric Says:

Won’t matter who we draft. We got all cute and signed a guy from Rutgers to a five year contract.

    Thanks glazer boys.

  22. PRBucFan Says:

    Schiano is just fine.

  23. Patrick Says:

Eric, what’s with the Schiano hate? Freeman is the one losing us the games. Him and Bill Sheridan’s defense.

  24. Eric Says:

    @patrick,

No hate, but the man is not qualified.

Look at the two most successful coaches in our history – Dungy and Gru. Extensive NFL experience. Dungy played in Super Bowls, worked with Noll. Years as a DC. Chucky worked with Montana, OC with Eagles, and had coached the Raiders to multiple playoff appearances.

This guy worked with Wanstedt for a year.

It matters. He’s got nothing to draw on…..it ain’t gonna fly.

  25. Freemanbomb5 Says:

Schiano couldn’t win against the Big East what makes anyone truly think he’s going to consistently beat ATL and NO year after year. He was hired simply b/c he’s on board with claiming that Marcell Dumbnik is the best GM in football, Chip Kelly actually has a set and refused to stake his career on Marcell’s drafting….

    According to Marcell:

Benn and Brian Price were better pro prospects then Gronk.
Myron Lewis better pro prospect then Graham AND Hernandez

Thank god we drafted all those team captains per Marcell Dumbnik instead of drafting TALENT…

  26. Freemanbomb5 Says:

And oh yes, Geno Atkins was had by Cincy the same year for a measly late forth rounder

  27. PRBucFan Says:

Thank God mark drafted MB, DM, and, LD

  28. ChefPaul Says:

What about that option screen to Lorig on the goal line. That damn play worked every time at the begining of the season. i havent watched the last 2 games but i havent seen that play in months. But i could be remembering wrong
