Lavonte David Should Be A Pro Bowler

December 23rd, 2012

One reason the Bucs had a prayer of winning this game despite four Josh Freeman interceptions (!) was the play of the defense. In particular, the play of Lavonte David.

It seemed like David, the rookie linebacker from Nebraska who calls the defensive plays, was spying underrated Rams running back Steven Jackson.

That’s a heavy workload. Jackson, who has run for over 1,000 yards each of the last eight years in St. Louis, and who incredibly has yet to play on winning team, was held to 81 yards today, largely due to David.

Sure, Jackson did get off on a 19-yard run, his longest of the afternoon, but he did little else. Oh, Jackson had room to run. There were holes for him to run through on occasion, but those holes quickly evaporated when David, who led the Bucs with nine tackles, came shooting through.

Yes, it may have been the Bucs best defensive effort of the season. A large part of the credit goes to David for all but shutting a stud running back down for the day.

Agreed…but National “experts” suck up to Luke Kuechly & Bobby Wagner. It makes me SICK. Luke has mostly pile jumping assists

  2. PRBucFan Says:

It’s a shame he probably won’t get in

  3. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

Kuechly is good, but the Rockstar grabbed LaVonte much later in the draft.

LD is a baller for sure, but it will be a while before he gets the national exposure.

Man, Lavonte has been an excellent player for us this year. He has played WAY better then Barron, and IMO has played better then D-rex, even though Doug is having a very nice season himself. PREDICTION: When all our players review this season and how they played and how the team played, Barron will have a chip on his shoulder that two of his teammates who were drafted after him easily out preformed him this season. He will work extremely hard in the offseason and come back a much improved player.

He’s so good that. That it destroys me to believe, how big of a void we would have if he ever got hurt. We need to draft a least to gifted athletic down field thumpers; to supplement the unit:

Especially when you got names like:

    1st
    *C.J. Mosley
    Alexander Ogletree

    2nd
    Arthur Brown

    3rd
    Shayne Skov
    Khaseem Greene
    Nico Johnson

    4th
    Kevin Reddick
    DeVonte Holloman
    Kiko Alonso

  6. Patrick Says:

He won’t get in because he plays for the Buccaneers. Pretty simple.

  7. Joe D. Says:

I really like Barron, but I was first guessing Barron pick, and thought that we should have gotten Kuechly, given how bad our LBs were last year, if the plan the whole time was to move Ronde to S and we had Amhad Black, so what if 2 of your first 3 picks were LBs it would have justified, btw, where is Najee Goode?

As a Bucs and Nebraska fan, this is familiar to me. The last two seasons LaVonte saved NU’s defense time-after-time-after… I’ve seen this movie before. I thought Mason Foster was starting to come along, but these last couple of games he’s disappeared.

LaVonte is just a FOOTBALL PLAYER. He just has an amazing feel for the game and can get into places other LBs cannot.
