Mark Barron Came To Play

December 16th, 2012

Joe hopes to have something a bit more detailed by tomorrow night about Mark Barron, but on paper Barron came to play big time today.

With the success of fellow rookies Doug Martin and Lavonte David, some Bucs fans are thinking Barron is a bust because he hasn’t shined like two guys who ought to be in the Pro Bowl.

To that, Joe says, balderdash!

Barron led the Bucs with 10 tackles today, eight of them solo tackles. He also tied for the Bucs’ lead in passes defended with one. And of course, Barron dropped rib-rattling hits on Saints players, which Joe dearly loves.

Has Barron made people forget John Lynch yet? No, but he still played a good game today.

Not very difficult to lead in tackles when every play is 10 yards down the field right in front of your face. One pass defended – Go Barron!

  2. Timmer4444 Says:

Regardless the silver lining is mannnn he can hit I felt my own kidneys shiver a few times today

  3. Have A Nice Day Says:

Ugh. That run he allowed by him in the second quarter really upset me. He just stood there and let the guy have the edge for a 30 yard gain.

  4. BucDan Says:

I agree that most tackles were down field, post-catch. There were a few at the line of scrimmage.

I counted 3 big plays and they were all at the end of the game. Big hits that should be their all the time. Last week at the 2? Barron should rock Avant. I can take a completion, but make it hurt. Lay the wood the way we know you can, Mark. It’s one of the major reasons we drafted you.

  5. Matt Horse Says:

We need a true ball hawking cover safety next to this guy and then he’ll truly shine

  6. SeanyMac in SC Says:

Thanks Joe, I really needed some silver lining after this God awful whipping. This was the worst three hours of getting heckled in the local watering hole in a looooong time.

I didn’t get to see the game today. I took a quick glance at the stats and looked pretty even. How was the score so lopsided? Barron appeared to have a good day.

  8. SeanyMac in SC Says:

@911- Freeman’s turn overs lost this game

  9. Reality Check Says:

@911 – Drew Brees threw the same number of touchdowns as Josh Freeman through picks and vice versa.

  10. Have A Nice Day Says:

@Sean – Mac – I’m pretty sure the 41 points by the Saints had something to do with it too.

  11. FloridaGirl Says:

At least someone came to play

  12. Adam L. Says:

Did you really say he tied for the Bucs lead in passes defensed with ONE? That means I was one behind the leader.

  13. 2002 seems so far away Says:

    finally!!!!!

  14. Tampa2 Says:

@911 – Total yards mean nothing when most of your yards are gained in garbage time and the Saints are in their Shell Defense giving you the middle of the field and the short stuff. Besides, 41-0 is a stat. Josh Freeman (everyones lord and savior) having 5 turnovers is a stat along with his 20 incompletions. The Saints having 150 yards rushing, and the Bucs doing next to nothing is a stat. This was as pitiful and disgusting as ANY of the Bucs’ 10 straight losses from last year.

Dood is still getting owned in coverage, I’m not impressed so far.

  16. Rajah Says:

Dude no one this team showed up to play today. It’ was an abomination in 3 phases.

  17. Brandon Says:

Other than a good hit that got flagged on RG3, one INT, and another big hit in preseason, Barron has been complete garbage.

Harrison Smith of the VIkings has been far better on the season and not nearly as big of a liability in coverage.

David has played pretty well, though he also struggles in coverage, Martin has been good most of the season, Barron has been awful.

Fire Bill Sheridan and if Barron still plays awful then we officially declare him a bust… until then, I have hope for him. Sheridan’s god-awful playcalling and schemes would make a secondary of Deion Sanders, Rod Woodson, Ed Reed, and John Lynch look dreadful.

    @Brandon

Barron a bust? Grow up and stop crying..the man is a rookie if yu expected great things immediately from all the draft picks, that’s your fault. H.Smith plays in a far different defensive scheme that is easier on that position. Maybe David and Martin spoiled us with their early success but labeling a player a bust just 14 games into their career shows why you are a fan not a GM..
